Chapter 261: Chapter 261 Unexpected Visitor (Monthly ticket 350+ update)

Suizi found out from her mother-in-law three days later that Wang Jialan had left and returned to the village.

"She came to complain to me before she left. I sent her packing. I can’t stand such deceitful people."

Wang Cuihua spat, her face full of disdain.

From her mother-in-law’s reaction, Suizi could guess what Wang Jialan had said about her.

She must have been slandering her to her mother-in-law.

After Suizi had shown her power at the Dumpling Restaurant, Wang Jialan dared not continue to work as a Nanny in the Deputy Factory Director’s household.

Fan Hua had some kind of cancer. It was speculated that his disease must have impeded his abilities, so he probably wouldn’t have had sex with Wang Jialan.

The sicker a person gets, the kinkier they become; because they are no longer "usable", they derive pleasure from taking advantage of women even more.

Fan Hua must have preyed on Wang Jialan many times, often giving her small favors after doing so.

All of this was told to Suizi by Fan Hua’s Nanny. It wasn’t hard for Suizi to get some information out of her.

Wang Jialan was afraid that Suizi would find out these secrets and expose her to Fan Hua’s wife, which would ruin her completely.

She could literally end up as human dumpling filling.

So she decided to leave, and before she returned to the village, she made sure to spread rumors about Suizi to Wang Cuihua.

Wang Cuihua didn’t tell Suizi any of the explicit details to avoid upsetting her. A pregnant woman should be especially careful of her emotions.

Suizi didn’t point it out and accepted her mother-in-law’s goodwill.

To try to sow discord between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law would be no easy matter.

Wang Cuihua was fiery and straightforward. She never hid what she was thinking. Even though she could occasionally be too candid, if one knew how to get along with her, she would not be harsh towards her daughter-in-law.

"Speaking of which, it’s already been several days since Tiegen left our household?" Wang Cuihua sighed. "While at home, I always found him annoying. But now that he’s not around, I actually miss him a bit."

Yu Jingting had returned to the village for spring plowing this week. His tractor had been of great help, and everyone in the village needed him, so he must be busy now.

"He’ll probably be back around May Day."

Within her mother-in-law’s presence, Suizi couldn’t express how much she missed him. But when she was alone in her room, it felt too empty.

With Yu Jingting not at home, there was no one to make her laugh or tie her shoes in the morning. She wasn’t used to it.

She wanted to call the village, but the only phone there was at the village’s collective, which would be unattended at night, and he would be busy during the day.

She didn’t really have anything to say, she just wanted to hear his voice. But calling him for such a trivial reason would be improper.

She could only bear her longing for him and hope for him to return quickly.

The day before May Day arrived, but there was still no word from Yu Jingting.

Suizi became listless after work and didn’t feel like talking much.

Seeing that Suizi only picked the pickled radishes at dinner, Wang Cuihua guessed that she was missing Tiegen.

"Why hasn’t he returned yet? He hasn’t even sent a word."

Just as she finished speaking, the geese in the courtyard suddenly began to honk loudly. A middle-aged woman came in, her head wrapped in a scarf and her hands tucked into her sleeves.

"Does Cuihua live here?"

Upon seeing her, Wang Cuihua muttered a curse under her breath, and her face instantly darkened.

"What are you doing here?"

"Cuihua, we’re family, aren’t we? There’s no need to be so ruthless as to not even offer me a drink of water, is there?"

Suizi whispered to Jiaojiao.

"Who is this?" She was certain she had never seen this woman before.

"You’ve never met her before?"

"Oh, this must be Jiaojiao, right? She’s grown so tall? Almost as tall as me—This is Tiegen’s wife, right? She’s good-looking!"

The middle-aged woman looked at Suizi and Jiaojiao, her eyes gleaming. Wang Cuihua stepped in front of the two children, preventing her from getting a closer look.

The woman made herself at home as soon as she entered, kicking off her cloth shoes and crossing her legs sitting on Wang Cuihua’s bed.

Suizi noticed sharply that the bottom of the woman’s socks was dark and hard looking—hadn’t she washed them in ages?

Seeing her mother-in-law’s mouth twitching, Suizi couldn’t help but sympathize with her.

As soon as the woman left, her mother-in-law would probably have to change the sheets.

"Suizi, Jiaojiao, this is Tiegen’s aunt, Yu Shuilian. You can just call her aunt."

"When did I get an aunt? Why haven’t I seen her before?" Jiaojiao voiced the question that was on Suizi’s mind.

Suizi hadn’t seen this woman at her wedding either, nor had she heard Yu Jingting ever mention her.

"She married into a family far away, so you haven’t seen her." Wang Cuihua said coldly, her words full of distance.

As soon as Yu Shuilian entered, her gaze flitted greedily over the three women, her eyes shining at the sight of Suizi.

She looked over Suizi from top to bottom, as if sizing up merchandise, and her greedy gaze made Suizi feel very uncomfortable.

"How much did Tiegen pay for this wife, she’s quite something!"

"Mind your own business—Suizi, take Jiaojiao to do her homework in the room. Don’t come out unless called."

Suizi thought her mother-in-law needed to have a private chat with the woman, so she tactfully led Jiaojiao to her own room.

The sound of conversation came from the next room, Suizi couldn’t hear it clearly, but it seemed her mother-in-law wasn’t pleased.

After a while there was quarreling, followed by the sound of something being thrown.

Jiaojiao and Suizi, fearing that Wang Cuihua was at a disadvantage, rushed out to see what was happening.

Yu Shuilian ran out looking gloomy, with Wang Cuihua chasing after her, throwing shoes.

"Get out! Don’t come back!"

"Cuihua, think about what I said, you’re getting older— if you don’t find someone soon, no one will want you." Yu Shuilian called back at the door.

Wang Cuihua took off her other shoe and threw it at her, her face red with anger.

"Mother, calm down. Let’s go inside, it’s cold outside, you might freeze." Suizi coaxed her mother-in-law inside, and Jiaojiao went to pick up the shoes.

"Don’t go in my room, I saw she had quite a few itches on her head, probably lice too. I didn’t want you and Jiaojiao catching anything, which is why I didn’t let you get too close."

Wang Cuihua shooed Suizi back to her own room, went back to change the bed sheets where Yu Shuilian had sat, changed her clothes, tidied up before going to find Suizi.

"Mother, what’s really going on? How come I never heard Jingting mention he has an aunt? Suizi asked curiously.

"She’s the maiden of Tiegen’s granduncle’s family. The entire Yu Family regards her as dead."

Yu Shuilian’s father and Yu Jingting’s grandfather were brothers who also used to live in Yang Village.

Then a dispute broke out over some misplaced gold coins—the same ones that Suizi had dug up—and Yu Shuilian’s family moved away.

But it wasn’t just the conflict between the older generation that induced such a strong aversion to Yu Shuilian from the Yu Family.

"After her father married her off to a layabout, life didn’t go well. She stole a child from Tiegen’s aunt’s family and sold him. She didn’t admit it, but everyone knew it was her."

"What?!!!" Suizi’s eyes widened in surprise.

That was heartless! Who would steal and sell a child from their own family?

"Then why didn’t anyone report her to the police at the time?"

"In the old days, there were many children in the village and it was a time of famine, so having one less child wasn’t much of a concern. We don’t exactly know why she wasn’t caught, we heard she may have kidnapped another child, but we don’t interact with her, so we have no evidence."

No one knows how this heartless woman had managed to track them down, or why she wanted to matchmake for Wang Cuihua, but it left Wang Cuihua feeling nauseous.

"Isn’t she just a human trafficker then..." Swallowing, Suizi felt a shiver of fear at the thought of Yu Shuilian’s scrutinizing gaze on her.
