Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Afraid You Are Just A Grandson (Monthly Ticket + More)
Under the street light, a shadowy figure sneaked around, taking out a roll of money from his pocket and throwing it on the ground.
Just when he was about to leave like nothing had happened, his shoulder was grabbed.
The man jumped in fright, turning around to see Yu Jingting smiling brilliantly.
"Did I not punch you hard enough during the day?"
The man’s face bore an injury, and upon seeing Yu Jingting, he turned and tried to run.
But, he was grabbed by the collar, trying to struggle free but not moving an inch.
"Run! Give it all you’ve got!" Yu Jingting’s voice was not loud, but it was fierce enough to make the man’s legs shiver.
Suizi recognized the man as a stranger, someone she had never seen before.
"Big brother, I was wrong——"
"Cut the crap! Who you calling brother? Your face looks like you’ve trapped all the flies in your wrinkles!"
Suizi couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Being with him, she found herself becoming braver, this guy always managed to turn a tense situation into a comedy show.
"It’s my first time! Please let me go!" the man shivered in fear.
"First time? Heh, what’s this?!" Yu Jingting pulled out a stack of papers from his pocket and smacked the man in the face, "Is this your pawing signature?!"
The man turned pale, not expecting Yu Jingting to have collected so much evidence.
"I... I’ll give you money, don’t tell on me!"
"Screw it! You think I’m a beggar?! If I take your money, what does that make us, lovers?"
"Blackmail." Teacher Xiaochen’s enlightenment was absolutely enough.
A gentleman loves money, but he acquires it in the right way.
"Let’s go, off to the police station with us!" Yu Jingting pulled the man along, who desperately clung to a nearby pole.
Spreading such superstitious stuff probably wouldn’t warrant too heavy a punishment as long as there was no significant harm, but the man’s terror suggested otherwise.
"Is this the factory director?" Suizi asked.
If the man didn’t have a reputable job, he wouldn’t be so terrified.
"Well, well, my wife is smart. You can deduce situations now?"
"Let me go! You will no longer be able to stay in town if you take this public! Our factory director will not spare you!"
The man, failing to bribe them, was now furiously lashing out.
"Which factory are you from?" Suizi asked.
"From the tobacco company! Cross me, and you cross Factory Director Fan, and you’ll regret it!"
"Oh, we are so, so scared." Yu Jingting smirked.
Fast forward ten minutes.
Yu Jingting dusted off the dirt on his hands while Suizi squinted at him.
"Why do you, carry a rope with you everywhere?"
Behind them, the man was tied to the pole, his denunciation letters still stuck to his body.
Suizi felt like Yu Jingting’s pocket was a treasure trove, he should be nicknamed Doraemon, able to pull anything out.
High kick, binding rope, sunflower seeds, frozen pear...
"Passers-by, don’t miss this! Here’s a superstition-spreader for you!" Yu Jingting’s voice echoed down the street.
It was a shame that he didn’t have his suona with him, a rendition of "The Birds Pay Homage to the Phoenix" would have gathered quite the crowd.
"Are you a monkey trainer?" the man was furious.
He never expected Yu Jingting, upon catching him, to not call the police, nor settle things privately.
Instead, he had the audacity to tie him to a pole and shout for the public to see. What a humiliation!
"What’s the point of harming me without benefiting yourself?"
Yu Jingting took out a handkerchief from his pocket, and in front of the man’s horrified eyes, blew his nose hard, then crumpled the handkerchief into a ball and shoved it in the man’s mouth.
"Ewh!" Suizi felt utterly disgusted.
"Mm-mm!" the man protested with a whimper.
Yu Jingting swiped a finger under his nose.
"Sorry, dude, it’s been cold these few days and I’ve got a runny nose."
"Ugh..." the man’s face expressed desolation.
Having hollered for a while, Yu Jingting managed to gather a crowd.
"What’s going on?" The bystanders asked.
"We were just passing by and saw this guy lurking around, definitely up to no good. We caught him as he was distributing these." Yu Jingting handed out the money and the letters to the crowd.
The crowd circled around and collectively sighed.
"What a scumbag! How shameless!"
"So, it was you distributing these odd letters all around? My wife was so scared by one she had nightmares all night!"
"Let’s get him!" Yu Jingting led the crowd into action.
The crowd swarmed in.
Yu Jingting then led Suizi away unnoticed.
"Leaving quietly after achieving their goals, concealing their great deeds." Only when they were far away did Suizi deliver this poetic phrase.
"Beating him up feels just like peeling a potato." Yu Jingting admitted that taking down such a minor thug didn’t give him a sense of achievement.
"But why didn’t you bring him to the police?" Suizi asked.
"If we did, do you think his master would let us off?" Yu Jingting retorted.
Suizi fell silent, he had a point.
"How did you know that it was Fan Hua who instigated him?" Suizi indeed had suspected this but lacked concrete evidence.
"First, he just threatened us, saying the factory director would not let us go."
"Secondly, when he went to Teacher Wang’s house and asked to exchange his son’s life for his own, he claimed his son was mentally handicapped. Yet I discovered this afternoon that he only has a daughter, no son."
Suizi gasped and her scalp tingled.
"So, the person who is really messing things up behind the scenes is Fan Hua and the factory director is just his minion?"
This Fan Hua, truly horrifying.
First, he hired someone to find a Feng Shui master, asking to borrow the life of his mentally challenged son in exchange for his own. When that failed, he had his right-hand man distributing such items.
"Single-handedly causing a stir in half the city, he’s something else."
Suizi was determined. Once she returned home, she would write an expose for the newspaper revealing the letter scam.
"But Fan Hua, knowing what we did today, will probably seek revenge on us, won’t he?" Suizi was worried.
Yu Jingting humiliated Fan Hua’s lackey, even shoving a huge glob of snot in his mouth. How could he possibly let this go unanswered?
"Scared of him? He’s nothing!"
Suizi considered this. Taking a hard-line approach might indeed beat the guy up, but that wouldn’t solve the problem.
But in the long run, given their local clout, there’s no way she and Yu Jingting, two country bumpkins, could take them on.
All the way, Suizi was anxiety-ridden.
Having just arrived, she suddenly found herself tangled in the filthy world of the rich, and she couldn’t just sit around doing nothing.
Sorting through her thoughts, she eventually came up with a good idea.
"Jingting, do this when you get home." Near their home, Suizi beckoned him over.
She whispered into Yu Jingting’s ear, which made him raise an eyebrow.
"You want them to fight amongst themselves?" This chick really had a wicked mind.
"Mm-hm, given our situation, it’s our only choice. Fight poison with poison."
As underdogs trying to escape unharmed in the face of significant currents, how hard could it be without using their brains!
