I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 106: I Really Am a Weak Woman

Chapter 106: Chapter 106: I Really Am a Weak Woman

Suizi had prepared dinner, and was now waiting for Jiaojiao’s return.

Time ticked away, and it was already dark, but Jiaojiao hadn’t returned.

The house was eerily quiet.

Normally, at meal times, their home would be bustling. The small dinner table would be set up and the family would gather around it, talking about the ups and downs of their day.

But today, the unusual silence made Suizi take off her apron and furrow her brows.

Standing at the door, she looked out at the dark cluster of houses in the village, each surrounded by pinpricks of light spilling out from their homes.

It was dinner time and the roads were quiet.

Unable to see Jiaojiao, Suizi felt uneasy.

Jiaojiao was usually the first in line for dinner.

Yesterday, her younger uncle had visited, and they’d made several delicious dishes, one of which was Jiaojiao’s favorite, chicken stew with mushrooms. Suizi had purposely saved a plate of it for today’s meal.

Given how much Jiaojiao loved eating, she shouldn’t have missed dinner for anything.

Just as Suizi was preparing to go look for her, a child’s silhouette appeared, running towards her in the glow of the lantern lights. Her heart jumped with anticipation, but sank again upon realizing it wasn’t Jiaojiao.

It was a young boy from her class, who also lived in the village.

"Teacher, it’s... it’s... it’s not good," the boy pantingly managed to say as he approached Suizi, then his knees gave out and he collapsed.

Suizi quickly helped him up.

"Take your time," she told him. The boy was sweating profusely, clearly having run a long distance to get here.

"Yuan... Yuan Wenyuan asked me to tell you that Jiaojiao’s been taken into the mountains. He’s already gone in after her."

"What!!!" Suizi’s mind went blank.

She quickly asked the boy to explain the situation again.

Jiaojiao had been playing hide and seek with a few other girls around the village.

Yuan Wenyuan was the chubby boy who often quarreled with Jiaojiao at school.

Their class had bestowed upon them the titles of "Left and Right Protectors" due to their constant bickering; they would often be punished with standing in the corner together for scratching each other.

"When Jiaojiao was hiding, Yuan Wenyuan and I were in a tree collecting bird eggs. He wanted to scare Jiaojiao, so he planned to wait until she finished hiding, then throw an egg at her."

Boys, they loved mischief.

Yuan Wenyuan had been at odds with Jiaojiao for some time, itching to pull a prank on her whenever he got the chance.

As they were crouched in the tree, they saw Jiaojiao hiding in a clump of grass, then a man appeared, covering her mouth from behind, stuffed her into a sack, and carried her away.

"At first, we thought it was just Tiegen and Jiaojiao playing around. It had already started getting dark so we couldn’t see it clearly, but Yuan Wenyuan insisted that it wasn’t Tiegen."

The height of Jingting wasn’t something everyone had, he was a head taller than everyone else in the village, making him easily identifiable.

"Yuan Wenyuan told me to come here and tell you. He’s followed that man into the mountains."

After hearing all the details, Suizi’s mind felt like it had blown up.

Her heart skipped a beat.

Something bad had definitely happened to Jiaojiao.

And now not only Jiaojiao was in danger, but also Yuan Wenyuan who had rashly gone after her.

The worst part was that Jingting, the pillar of the family, was not at home.

In those days, there were no phones in the village to call for help.

It quickly occurred to Suizi to gather the able men of the village and ask for their assistance in finding the children on the mountain.

Just as she thought of this, Erya from the local supply and marketing co-op rushed over carrying a note.

"Suizi, someone asked me to deliver this message to you."

"Who?"

"I don’t know. My grandmother was sitting at the doorway when someone passed the note to her. She has dementia and can’t distinguish who people are," Erya said, explaining that she saw Suizi’s name on the envelope and so brought it over.

Suizi had an ominous feeling.

Upon opening the note, she saw a familiar handwriting. Just one sentence.

’If you want to save Jiaojiao, Chen Hansui, come to the mountain alone. If you dare to bring others, I will rip up the ticket.’

Suizi recognized the handwriting immediately.

In her previous life, she had seen this handwriting several times. It was Li Youcai’s.

That bastard, hadn’t he been sent away for re-education?

In an instant, Suizi thought that Li Youcai might have escaped.

As a fugitive, he knew he was backed into a corner. He had returned to the village, biding his time to get revenge on her and her family.

Jingting wasn’t home today, and neither was Wang Cuihua. This was the perfect opportunity for Li Youcai.

"Whose letter is it?" Erya asked.

"It’s nothing." Suizi held the crumpled paper in her trembling hand.

She had Erya help her send the boy home, then went inside, and shakily poured herself a glass of water, she needed to calm down desperately.

Jingting wasn’t home, and she was pregnant. Even if Li Youcai was a weakling, Suizi couldn’t physically fight him on her own.

She was just a frail woman!

She drank the water in less than ten seconds. Ten seconds after that, this supposedly frail woman, headed toward the storage room, unhooked Jingting’s shotgun used for hunting birds, and slung it on her back.

Thinking of how Jingting often fought, she then tucked an axe into her waistband and picked up a kitchen knife. Right hand holding the knife, left hand holding a knife sharpener, she walked out of the house while sharpening the knife.

Her face was covered in tears, making her look pitiful and fragile.

But her actions were anything but.

Now, Suizi’s face was cold, but her heart was aflame.

She had no fighting ability and wasn’t brave. Besides, she had just confirmed her pregnancy, physically fighting someone was not an option.

Going alone as instructed in the note was like delivering her head on a platter to them.

However, she could use her other abilities to solve the problem.

She wanted to face all the hardships of life directly, and refused to run away from problems like she used to in her previous life.

Running away was just a temporary escape from the issue but caused a lifetime of guilt and regret.

She wanted to bring Jiaojiao and Yuan Wenyuan back safely and unharmed.

She was certainly scared, their foe was truly a tiger.

By the time she kicked open the door of Li Youcai’s house, Suizi felt she had transformed. She felt as if Jingting was with her.

Li Youcai’s dog heard the sound and rushed towards Suizi. She brandished her knife and shouted at the dog.

"Scram!"

Just as Jingting had once insulted Li Youcai’s dog, Suizi imitated it perfectly. The dog seemed to sense Jingting’s presence on Suizi and quickly turned tail and ran.

Li Youcai’s family was having dinner at the time.

Upon hearing the sound of the door being kicked open, Li Youcai’s mother went to investigate.

"Who’s there— Ah?!"

She didn’t even manage to finish her sentence before something cold was pressed against her forehead.

"Wha-Wha-What are you doing?!" Li Youcai’s mother was scared silly.

As she was sitting at the table crying for her jailed son, a gun was pointed to her forehead out of the blue, who wouldn’t be scared?

"Your damned son kidnapped my sister-in-law. You are coming with me to exchange with her."

"What? Youcai escaped?"

"Don’t play dumb. If anything happens to my family, not a single member of the Li family, including that dog, will die a peaceful death."

Li Youcai’s mother had never seen the gentle Suizi react so violently before. It was as if she was witnessing a female version of Jingting.

"My god, she barged into the house with a gun, is she possessed by her notorious bandit ancestors?!"
