Chapter 96: Chapter 94 How powerful can a verbal barrage be?_1

Zheng Yichen had grasped quite a few battle techniques in Katrina’s world, those techniques were all designed for humans, focusing on blocking, counterattacking, and attacking. As for techniques to strengthen his own attacks... Well, there were none!

He really wished he had some now.

"Did any of you hear some kind of beast’s roar?" Liu Haipeng and the others approached the Alien Phenomenon with solemn expressions. They knew the Phenomenon was forbidden territory, but as long as they didn’t enter it, they wouldn’t be in danger. Moreover, the Phenomenon moved very slowly, slower than a normal person walking. As long as you weren’t seeking death, there generally wouldn’t be a problem.

Yet hearing a roar from inside the Phenomenon was unheard of. Maybe it happened in other places, but now that global communications were dead, even if there were, there was no way to spread the news.

As for some places that had rebuilt cities, they were not concerned. After all, the small town gathering areas were doing well, and life had gradually returned to a state of abundance. Why move there? Just the travel alone could lead to countless deaths.

Without the protection of gathering areas, so many people would just be a moving food storage for mutated creatures.

"It seems there is..." Someone was uncertain since the sound was very faint.

While they were still puzzled, another roar echoed, and the expressions on Liu Haipeng and the others’ faces changed drastically. There was undoubtedly a dangerous creature inside the Phenomenon. Otherwise, how could they explain the skeletons left behind where the Phenomenon had passed?

But at this moment, the creature inside the Phenomenon seemed to have been enraged: "Could this be why the Phenomenon is moving faster?"

"The key question is why the creature inside would be enraged?" Liu Haipeng was puzzled. Their vehicles were kept in a ready-to-go state, so they could move at any sign of trouble.

Others noticed a different development: "The Phenomenon seems to have stopped."

"...Old Li, take some people back and report the situation here, tell the town to prepare for evacuation!" Liu Haipeng said decisively, unwilling to gamble on luck under these circumstances.

"I understand, Captain. Be careful."

The man called Old Li grabbed a young boy who was trying to take a flying cap by the collar, his face showing a scolding expression: "No fooling around! This is not the time to play!!"

The little boy, whose words were stuck in his throat, nodded dejectedly: "I understand, Uncle Li."

Old Li took a third of the team with him, carrying back all the resources they had collected, leaving Liu Haipeng and the others in light gear.

Liu Haipeng said, "Let’s distance ourselves from the Phenomenon, don’t get too close."

They had enough supplies to stay in the wild for five days. As for scrimping, there was no need for that. Doing so would affect their combat effectiveness, making things worse if they encountered mutated creatures. They weren’t far from the town and had plenty of supplies.

They didn’t need to hold on for five days. If Old Li didn’t meet with anyone in two days, he would definitely come looking for them.

The angry roars were making Zheng Yichen’s ears uncomfortable. When he reached to touch them, his hand came back bloody.

The furious behemoth was covered with uneven scratches, each one blackened by burns. The creature’s hide was incredibly thick, at least half a meter thick in places. And as its emotions fluctuated violently, the distortion inside the Phenomenon grew more serious.

Under that distortion, more and more things fell, including unconscious humans and other beasts.

Some of them were not as unlucky as the car owner before, but here inside the Phenomenon, those without adaptability would lose consciousness immediately, including the animals.

Unconscious and unlucky, those appearing in the air would just hit the ground dead. But now the monster was no longer interested in using those unlucky ones as food. It just wanted to kill Zheng Yichen.

The monster’s forelimbs, which would make a T-rex green with envy, clawed toward the ruined building. Zheng Yichen, standing on top, leaped onto the behemoth’s head, and with a black spear in his hand, burning with a ghostly green flame, he stabbed down into its skull.

He distinctly felt the tip of the black spear shatter a part of the behemoth’s skull upon contact. The fishing rod inside the black spear remained undamaged. He didn’t continue the attack but immediately withdrew, grabbing the rugged skin of the behemoth and moved to its neck where the blood hole had started to clot.

Without hesitation, Zheng Yichen targeted that spot again. A large amount of blood gushed out and was absorbed by the black spear. He breathed a sigh of relief as the tip of the black spear extended and reconnected with the short spear stuck inside the behemoth’s body.

He promptly retreated before the creature’s paw could hit him.

He did not want to get smacked by that thing while greedy for a little more damage. The situation now felt to Zheng Yichen just like playing a Souls series game.

He figured as long as he could rely on his agility and act as a chiropodist, he would be fine. He didn’t want to test the fate of those who were greedy for one more strike.

"That felt good!"

Zheng Yichen looked at his somewhat reddened skin, a reaction to drawing a large mouthful of blood from the behemoth’s wound. He felt as if he had been injected with adrenaline and could battle the enormous beast before him for three days and nights without rest!!

Wielding the long spear in his hand, Zheng Yichen roared, "Come at me!!"

"ROAR—!!"

The beast’s roar was so powerful that it blew Zheng Yichen’s hair tightly against his scalp, clearly out-roaring him.

But he couldn’t afford to lose in other aspects. The black spear in Zheng Yichen’s hand was ablaze with a ghostly green flame, like a pillar of fire, charging straight towards the behemoth. As he drew near the beast, the spear slid across the ground, causing the fractured earth to spew large waves of ghostly green flames that surged toward the behemoth.

Confronted with this deeply detested and agonizing sensation, the behemoth’s large nostrils sucked in massive amounts of air as its chest swelled.

After feeling the ice-cold yet scorching ’temperature’ of the flame wave, the behemoth opened its mouth and roared, but how powerful could an air cannon be?

See...power?

Perhaps this word wasn’t quite appropriate, but at that moment, Zheng Yichen watched, wide-eyed, as the beast’s air blast split the flame wave down the middle, and then it was like being hit by a high-speed train; the world went black as the surface of the black spear in front of him shattered to reveal the fishing rod inside used as a filler.

The thing was robust and surprisingly intact.

Outside the Alien Phenomenon, Liu Haipeng and the others watched in dumbfounded amazement as a sphere of air flew out of the anomaly. The air sphere weakened rapidly as it emerged, but the frenzy of the unleashed currents still reached them, bringing with it a mass of debris.

Some building rubble, twisted and warped streetlamps, and a life-sized, shattered action figure...

"Team, team leader, I think we should retreat as soon as possible," a young man in the team couldn’t suppress his inner terror. He couldn’t imagine what kind of creature in the Phenomenon could unleash such an attack.

"Go over there," Liu Haipeng pointed to a nearby mountain, "Light a smoke signal when you get there so that Uncle Li won’t be able to find us when he arrives."

As for leaving... that was even less likely. The more dangerous the Phenomenon, the more attention it warranted. Otherwise, if no one paid attention to the Phenomenon’s dynamics, and something truly terrifying emerged, they would have no defenses whatsoever, wouldn’t they be completely doomed?

Inside the Phenomenon, by the time Zheng Yichen regained his senses, his entire body was numb and covered with dense wounds, the skin on his palms and arms had vanished, revealing his stark bones.

But on the bright red muscles of his arms, there was a slight twitching as the wounds healed.

The feedback he had received from consuming extraordinary creatures such as vampires and werewolves had been greatly enhanced under Environmental Adjustment. Although he couldn’t recover in seconds, this regenerative ability was fast enough.

It was just a bit too consuming.

Maintaining this state of recovery consumed more energy than burning Hellfire.

After taking a breath, he moved his body slightly and heard cracking noises coming from it. Many of his bones had broken in the previous impact, but fortunately, his healing ability was strong enough. Such injuries... would probably take about half an hour to recover.

The Alien Phenomenon behemoth didn’t pursue him right away. Zheng Yichen could see the silhouette of the behemoth. The air cannon had cleared all obstacles between the man and the beast, dispersing a considerable amount of the mist, allowing him to see clearly.

The Alien Phenomenon behemoth was feeding now!

The creatures that had fallen from the twisted environment had become its food. These creatures had not adapted and were all in a state of deep unconsciousness, like meat on a plate, at the mercy of the behemoth’s appetite.

It looked like he wouldn’t be able to wait half an hour. Wincing with some pain, Zheng Yichen wiped the blood from his face. Seeing that the skin on his palm had already regenerated, he picked up the short gun that had been retracted, now covered with a layer of black material.

Lengthening the short gun into a javelin, he grasped it and began to sprint forward. As he approached, the behemoth’s attention refocused on the human who should have been blasted away or even killed.

As the behemoth’s attention shifted, Zheng Yichen threw the javelin from his hand, with a series of explosions, the javelin, with even greater force, hit the behemoth’s chest, piercing a larger blood hole.

The earth-shaking roar of rage resonated as the Alien Phenomenon behemoth, unable to contain its fury, dove towards Zheng Yichen. Using the nearby cover to play a game of cat-and-mouse with the behemoth, the shelters crumbled under the beast’s attacks, but they still provided some protection for him.

Taking advantage of this cover, he stepped on the behemoth’s paw as it slammed down, then leaped up, stabbing the black spear, burning with ghostly green flames, into the torn wound in the behemoth’s chest.

The wound, gushing with blood, immediately clotted as green flames burst forth from within. The roar of the Alien Phenomenon behemoth turned into screams of agony as its tough skin began to crack and blacken. The destruction it inflicted around itself grew less and less until the lifeless behemoth crashed heavily to the ground.
