Chapter 80: Chapter 78 At Least Leave Some Noise_1

Throughout his journey, Zheng Yichen experienced how nauseating it was to be professionally pursued by a Hunter. He tried to erase the traces of his activity, but he was relentlessly tracked by a group of people. At the same time, he gained a more direct understanding of just how reliable the information that Hunter Arno had once shared with him was.

Anomalies link to other worlds, but those who have a thorough understanding of the anomalies wouldn’t dream of running off to such "inferior" worlds to cause trouble or become a ruler. Consider the mighty beings in some worlds who could fly and burrow through the earth; once they arrive in a lower-level world, they could meet their end at the hands of long spears and fire guns, or possibly even be killed by a pitchfork.

Such a risk might be low, but it is certainly not zero. With such conditions, who would be willing to go there?

If Zheng Yichen returned to Hazy City now, he would definitely qualify as a little superman, but here he was, quite embarrassingly pursued by a bunch of people armed with powerful crossbows.

His pursuers could always catch the traces he left behind. Coupled with his lack of knowledge about the nearby environment, Zheng Yichen found himself gradually cornered into a trap.

At this thought, his expression turned fierce.

In the darkness of the night, Zheng Yichen squinted his eyes, watching several figures in the night. He was an extraordinary creature himself, not having shown much speciality before, only his innate extraordinary abilities. During the few months in this world, he and Raymond’s squad had almost eradicated the nearby extraordinary creatures. Although they couldn’t absorb them in large quantities, the sheer number also added up to a significant accumulation.

This kind of accumulation had already caused some changes in him. Greater strength and better physique were just the basic changes. The key was the accompanying enhancements, such as improved sense of smell, subtle changes in vision, and so on. These didn’t affect his appearance, but the changes were substantial nonetheless.

He still could not make his eyes work like infrared detectors, to clearly see hidden living creatures in the dark, but it did give him an extra edge. After defeating the Night Devil, in addition to the basic feedback, Zheng Yichen’s night vision also slightly improved, which he could only manifest with concentrated effort and some strain on his eyes.

Currently, it was not a passive skill, but an active one. Perhaps he would have the chance to make it passive in the future.

At night, he felt his body become more active. This was passive, and he hoped that this series of changes wouldn’t cause any other problems—like becoming inexplicably agitated on full moon nights. So far, he hadn’t noticed any such issues, but whether they would appear in the future was unclear.

That was a problem for later.

"So, it’s really a trap..." Zheng Yichen rubbed his eyes and, making use of the cover of night, quietly approached a team of pursuers.

This team of pursuers was resting, and after several days of tracking, they had ascertained that their target was poor at counter-tracking—just a strong, young, reckless man.

By maintaining continuous tracking and disrupting him, reducing his rest, they would eventually wear the guy down. They had started treating this operation like a special hunt, switching their target from a wild beast to a human.

"Shh—there’s a noise." One of the resting pursuers said alertly, "It’s not an animal!"

Hiss, hiss, hiss—

A piercing noise rang out, disorienting the team of pursuers. A burly shadow rushed over, and the black spear in its hand pierced through the head of a pursuer. When the black spear was pulled out, the blood that stained its tip quickly disappeared.

The spear’s tip sliced through another pursuer’s neck, and as the rest of the pursuers were recovering from their dizziness, one reached for the fire gun at his waist only to be impaled by the black spear through the chest. The body was flung onto another pursuer, knocking them off their feet.

The last pursuer raised his gun to shoot but was hit in the head by a lone horn.

’Not quite right...’ Zheng Yichen looked at the pursuer toppled on the ground, rushed over to finish off the one knocked down by the corpse of his companion, before sending off the one hit by the horn.

His skill in throwing was still not good enough; it was accurate, but it did not achieve what he had envisioned. He had hoped that the horn would pierce straight through.

Fortunately, Zheng Yichen’s strength was considerable, and even though it wasn’t a piercing attack, the blunt force almost cracked open the pursuer’s skull.

After succeeding, Zheng Yichen quickly collected the spoils of battle and swiftly left.

The other pursuers soon discovered the situation. Looking at the disposed squad, they fell silent, "How did he find this place?"

Zheng Yichen’s counter-tracking abilities were poor. They were different, and the place they rested was extremely secluded. If Zheng Yichen meant to find them, it would take luck, stumbling upon them by chance. But if he had been fortunate to stumble upon them, he would surely have been detected.

The scene indicated that the attack was premeditated.

The assault was swift and decisive, and the strongest among them were taken first.

After the attacker left, not only did he take their equipment, he even took the guns... Cold weapons were one thing, but the fire guns were key.

"We were careless, we shouldn’t have acted separately." A pursuer said solemnly, initially thinking they were dealing with a strong, young hothead, only to realize it was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He inspected the corpses at the scene, "He was very fast. Five men were within his capacity to deal with. If there had been one more person, the result might have been slightly different."

Based on the scene, Zheng Yichen first took out the strongest one, then, using the momentum, slashed another accomplice’s throat with his weapon. In the struggle of that accomplice, the weapon struck a third person, flinging him with great force, and he collided with a fourth person.

By this time, the fifth person had already drawn his weapon to attack, but was hit in the head by a thrown object, which alone was nearly fatal.

"Isn’t that still a team wipeout?"

"Someone fired a gun. At least we could have known what happened here right away!"

Five people could be taken down by Zheng Yichen in one continuous combo, without even having the chance to signal a warning, but it was different with six people.

They discovered the annihilation of their comrades within the agreed-upon time, due to the lack of contact from the other party, not because someone was able to give a warning before dying. If there was a chance to alert them, they could have responded immediately.

But it’s too late to say all this now, the discovery came too late. Zheng Yichen had long since fled. Although they could still track his traces, they dared not act so carelessly and disperse. Instead, they formed a pocket to surround him.

They had intended to exhaust his strength and securely capture the target, but now they’ve had a chunk bitten off in retaliation...

"Continue the pursuit, but be cautious, the enemy has a gun." The pursuers began to move, quickly relocating Zheng Yichen’s trail. Zheng Yichen not only lacked counterattack abilities but was also very unfamiliar with the terrain nearby.

In the dark night, Zheng Yichen’s eyes widened as he surveyed his surroundings, his poor night vision and weak thermal vision not allowing him to see everything clearly in the darkness.

However, some things became even clearer in the darkness.

He noticed those pursuers as they closed the distance to him.

The pursuers, observing the traces of Zheng Yichen’s movements, frowned slightly, "Just like two days ago, when we’re about to get close to him, he detects us."

Is their concealment ability so poor? Getting close to Zheng Yichen didn’t mean sticking to his back and slitting his throat. They were within their effective attack range, with poisoned crossbow arrows lying in wait for Zheng Yichen. Just one shot within effective range would bring an end to this pursuit.

But Zheng Yichen didn’t give them this opportunity, hence the switch to the pocket encirclement tactic. As for acting? At first, they considered it possible, but if it were an act, then it was too much of an insult to their intelligence.

"Perhaps he has some ability to sense danger," suggested another pursuer.

"Troublesome. Keep an eye on him, he hasn’t had proper rest for two days now."

The pursuit continued as Zheng Yichen looked for opportunities to ambush the pursuers. Yet each time he started to act, they swiftly dispersed. If he dared to launch an attack, they dared to encircle him; additionally, there were now more traps around, including many vicious snares.

Zheng Yichen felt completely disgusted by these traps. He tried to set some himself, but the rough traps were easily destroyed by this group of experienced pursuers, which was a waste of his time.

"Damn dogs..." By the riverside, Zheng Yichen washed his face and quickly left the bank. He took out a map to check, the river being a reference point he had identified over these days, which considerably soothed his irritated mood. He hadn’t had proper rest for several days.

He feared being approached while asleep, and with the pursuers’ numbers allowing them to rotate shifts, it was really tough.

After determining his rough location, the corner of his mouth twitched involuntarily. It seemed he had taken a wrong turn and was now further from the Dusk Cathedral, but having confirmed his bearings, he now had a clear direction.

"He has determined his own position." A pursuer watching Zheng Yichen from a distance said to his companion. They were patient hunters, and Zheng Yichen was an extremely dangerous prey. Having already suffered casualties, they had gotten rid of their complacency and focused on wearing down Zheng Yichen’s stamina.

"Even if he has corrected his route, reaching his destination will take five days. Can he last that long?"

The day after Zheng Yichen corrected his course, the pursuers watched vigilantly at the box in his hands. By now, they were no longer hiding, just following Zheng Yichen from a distance, truly planning to exhaust him to death. They could see Zheng Yichen clearly, and he could see them just as well.

What made the pursuers vigilant was Zheng Yichen, his eyes bloodshot, staring at the Subduing Item and gesturing with a sword at the chains on it, seemingly ready to strike at any moment.

This was not what they wanted to see. Their target was that Subduing Item; no one knew what was inside. If it were destroyed by Zheng Yichen, their mission might fail, and they might be affected by something unknown.

"Negotiate with him."

A pursuer, who had put down his crossbow and fire gun, approached Zheng Yichen voluntarily.
