Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 748: Spawn of God
Chapter 748: Spawn of God
"Archibald..."
He didn’t know why but he could hear his name.
This was the first time such a thing had happened since the day he gained access to the Innate Talent, Resurrection.
Perhaps it had something to do with the Daemon or maybe it was due to the location, either way, it was rather odd.
"Archibald..."
It was a ghostly whisper, seemingly far away while simultaneously being close.
Archibald didn’t understand why it sounded so familiar... like a voice he hadn’t heard in centuries.
Instinctively, he turned in the direction of the voice and then, ’opened’ his eyes only to find himself standing in a ghostly realm with a snow covered landscape and towering ice pillars.
The sky was lit up by an apparition of the Nighteye and numerous overlapping Silent Veils which seemed to stretch for as far as his eyes could tell.
Entranced by the awe-inspiring sight, Archibald soon found himself jolted from it as he heard his name once again, this time closer than ever.
And so, he glanced in the direction it was coming from only to freeze, his eyes widening in sheer shock as he recognized the figure standing a few meters away.
There was no way he would be able to forget that face and so, with quivering lips, he muttered. "... Mother?"
***
Mother, Save Me!
The pain that came with hearing the pure voice of a Divine being without any form of protection struck every member of Constellations like a vengeful hammer, ensuring that everyone fell to their knees, completely disoriented.
Gritting his teeth, Alex fought through the pain as he tightened his hold over Excalibur, the pain the sword brought, ravaging his insides without mercy.
He had barely a minute left before he wouldn’t be able to withstand the pain so he needed to make it count.
And so, he took steady steps towards Sayda’s head, his goal quite clear.
"If you think anyone is coming to save you, then you have another...."
He didn’t even get a chance to finish the sentence when an audible crack in the sky echoed, causing him and every other individual to pause.
Sayda was perhaps the only person to react as a beautiful smile adorned her lips.
Mother, you came.
Almost immediately, the sky above shattered like glass, revealing a world beyond filled with undulating purplish black energy that resembled plasma.
Just staring at the energy resulted in one’s skin being darkened as their heart was engulfed by negative emotions.
But that wasn’t the main threat as out of this other dimension filled with the plasma like energy, came a maw, a terrifying maw that seemed to lead to the void itself.
Within this maw were rows and rows of sharpened teeth and the maw itself was more an intangible mass than tangible, sharing the same color scheme as the dimension of which it crawled out from.
Frightening as it was and ignoring the terrifying pressure it’s presence carried, just the mere sight alone knocked out several members of Constellations.
It was clear from this alone that the battle was over, that they had lost, for with everything that they had, it was not enough to fight back against the sheer might of a Spawn of God.
Sayda rejoiced at the sight, her eyes filled with joy at the thought of being saved.
Mother, you came. Your daughter apologizes for disrupting your battle but this was too important to handle alone.
There was no response, prompting Sayda to continue.
I’ve retrieved the Pearl. Also, I have found a GodKiller, can you imagine that?... Please mother, help me recover so I may take these treasures back to camp.
Just as the maw moved to help Sayda, an unyielding voice was heard.
"No."
Sayda froze, and so did the maw, both their attentions pulled in the same direction.
Alex stood there, a complete mess with Excalibur in hand.
Unlike the others, he had looked away the moment the scar in the sky appeared, a result of Excalibur speaking to him, telling him to avert his eyes.
Of course, though he hadn’t passed out yet, he still had to fight off the terrifying pressure exerted by the presence of the Godspawn and that was already taking everything within him to accomplish.
How dare you stand in my Mother’s presence?... How dare you!
Sayda lashed out, unable to believe that Alex was still conscious.
Ignoring her words even as it left him dizzy and disoriented, Alex remarked. "Make your choice... the Pearl or your daughter."
As he spoke, his shadow began to shift, almost like something was coming alive in there.
For five years worth of memories, Nyx was making himself known.
And with his presence active, the appendage of the Godspawn above seemed to grow smaller in an instant.
Alex glanced upward, his eyes blackened, serving as entrances into primordial darkness.
"Dare to be greedy and I will not hesitate to fight."
Boom
Nyx’s shadow shot out like a fountain, before solidifying into numerous large tentacles that were set to wrap around the maw and drag it out of the other dimension, dragging it and whatever was attached to it down.
In an instant, the situation entered a stalemate, causing Sayda a great deal of shock.
Just who was this man?... Where had he come from?... How did he manage to wield such power despite being a mortal?... Just what exactly was going on!
She couldn’t understand it and this made her realize something... she was in danger!
Mother, do not listen to him!... Mother, save me!... I know for a fact that he’s bluffing!... Mother!
The maw hesitated before ultimately making its decision.
The Pearl shot towards the sky from the ground, a sight that caused Alex’s expression to shift ever so slightly.
He’d hoped It would pick Sayda but at the end of the day, the Pearl was clearly more important.
Mother, no... where are you going?... Come back!
The maw gave no response, remaining just as silent as it was when it first arrived.
And then, it took its leave, closing behind the gateway it had opened to prevent Alex coming after the Pearl.
