Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 739: Making preparations
Chapter 739: Making preparations
Within the esoteric confines of Confluence, an interdimensional hallway created by Elena and serving as a bridge between different dimensions, the members of Constellations were all seated, discussing a matter that perhaps could be considered as being of paramount importance.
"What do you mean we won’t be going after the Pearl?" Nadia asked, barely able to contain her heated emotions at that moment.
Glancing at her, Alex, maintaining a calm demeanor, replied. "Calm down. I’m not done yet."
Nadia’s lips parted but ultimately she remained silent, allowing Alex to continue addressing the group.
"Even if we get into Twilight first and Sayda doesn’t reveal herself until we are gone, all that would do is put a target on our back, because there’s no way in hell she’d let us go with the Pearl."
"She’d hunt us down." Ana said, agreeing with Alex’s words. "And this time, she won’t need to worry about Twilight since it would be easier to take it from us than from the dwelling of the now extinct werewolf race."
"Which means we’d have ended up doing most of the heavy lifting only to end up losing the prize at the end." Victoria chipped in from the side.
"Indeed." Alex remarked. "And I’d be damned if I have to get through whatever Twilight has in store for those that get in only to lose out in the end."
"We have a GodKiller. We can take the fight to her." Nadia suggested only for Ana to respond.
"You and I both know that it can’t be that simple."
"Ana is right." Alex admitted. "I don’t feel any power boost when utilizing Excalibur."
Nadia breathed out as she crossed her arms, her expression marred with disappointment.
"So what now?" Arwen finally spoke up.
She could still vividly remember the night where Arthur lost his life and the dream she had that has foretold his death.
In some way, she felt partly responsible for Arthur’s death.
Taking a deep breath, Alex remarked. "So, we let Sayda do the heavy lifting while we set up a trap for her. However, before I go into the details, I must confirm that everyone here is willing to take part in this. I cannot assure you that the plan would be perfect, that there would be no losses, but I can assure you that I will do my best and my best requires you all."
The group exchanged looks with another but none said a word, silently expressing their desire to take part in what was essentially a vendetta.
Satisfied with the turnout, Alex intoned. "Then let’s begin. Nadia."
"Yes?"
"Do you know anything about this Daemon?... Anything at all?"
Pursing her lips, Nadia replied. "Her name is Sayda. She’s a daughter of one of the current three Godspawns that rule over the Paragons."
"Anything else?"
"Not much, however, if I remember correctly, most rumors about her centered around the fact that she had followed the wrong Devil when entering the Devil Wheel."
"How so?" Alex asked.
Taking a moment to recollect what she could from her memories, Nadia explained. "Something about her being more prideful than gluttonous."
"I see." Alex nodded, taking that into consideration.
A proud enemy was always going to make mistakes due to their ego.
"Also." Nadia said, drawing attention to herself once again. "According to Vessina, she is in conflict with Baseth, the Devil of Gluttony."
"Why?" Alex asked.
"I can’t say." Nadia admitted.
"Fine then. I believe that’s enough." Alex said. "Now then, I need each of you to let me in on your strongest support Ability, one that you are sure would be useful in the battle even if it’s for a second or two."
Ana was the first to speak up as she remarked. "I could pause time around her for a second or two."
"Good." Alex nodded. "Anyone else?"
"I should be able to read her future, but only for a few seconds at most." Elena remarked.
"Is it possible to directly send us into Twilight?" Alex asked.
"If we get into Twilight, then, I should be able to map out its coordinates and ensure that we don’t have to all be together at the same time."
"Wonderful." Rubbing his hands together, Alex glanced at the others with Nadia remarking.
"I might be able to make a deal with either Vessina or Xistora for a powerful enough attack that would disorient Sayda. But..."
"But what?" Alex asked.
"Most deals I’ve made so far ended up with me not having to offer anything. However, the type of deal I’d need to make to get their aid in dealing with Sayda... let’s just say I doubt they would be willing to help without taking payment."
"Then use me." Ulysses suddenly spoke up, drawing attention to him.
His form was still problematic, but he had managed to retain a basic human appearance, making it not so difficult to regard him.
"What?"
"Use me as a sacrifice. I dare say my immortality or rather, the immortal life dwelling within me would be sufficient enough to gain their aid." Ulysses muttered through labored breaths.
"But..."
"You know I’m right." Ulysses said, cutting Nadia off. "This is the best way to deal with this problem. Don’t worry, if you are worried about killing me, that won’t happen."
"Isn’t your immortality corrupted?" Arwen calmly pointed out from the side, drawing attention to the source of Ulysses immortality.
Born out of the excessive proliferation of cells due to the corruption of the Lord of Flesh and Blood, the only reason Ulysses was still barely human was simply because of the divine essence of his ancestor which continuously killed the cells, serving for a delicate balance of death and rebirth.
"Don’t worry, that won’t be a problem." Ulysses assured.
"Alright then." Alex nodded in satisfaction before turning to Arwen and Victoria.
The duo exchanged looks, quite aware that unlike the others, they were somewhat limited in their capabilities.
However, Alex did not see it that way.
In times of desperation, even the things that seemed most useless ended up having the most value.
