Chapter 705: Wielded once again

As his thoughts drifted and his mind wandered, Alex found himself lost as he pondered the meaning behind the Trial Adam had given.

Though it sounded simple, it was anything but and it left him... without direction.

Just as feelings of despair sought to take root in his restless mind, he heard a call... It was his name.

Someone was calling out to him.

"... Alex!"

He opened his eyes, gasping for air as he glanced in the direction of the voice.

Arwen was the owner and she appeared strained as she asked. "How much longer do we burn this?"

Perplexed at first, Alex shifted his attention to the area directly below him where he found two large halves of a supposed whole, one covered in black and white flames that were flickering precariously and the other, covered in pale flames that burned with a vengeance.

Only then did he recall that in his desire to find answers to the problem he found himself in, Alex had forgotten about a more pressing matter; the Many faced Fallacy and the reason why they had hunted it.

Realizing that due to his lack of attention, the portion of the Fallacy that his flames burned had begun to regain a significant amount of vitality, forcing Arwen to put in more effort.

Clicking his tongue, Alex snapped again and the Embers of Twilight surged with more intent, swiftly putting a stop to the growing vitality.

Unfortunately, that was all it did.

If they didn’t act quickly, it wouldn’t be long before the Fallacy would be able to exert its Authority again.

Alex made his way to the ground, deciding to put aside the matter concerning the Trial for the time being.

"Master..." Victoria called out, her expression revealing traces of worry.

"I’m fine," Alex said, assuring her before inquiring. "Where is Elena?"

"She left," Nadia said as she came over with Ana. "She said Ulysses needed her help."

"I see." Alex pursed his lips. "In that case, we..."

He didn’t get a chance to say anything else as a golden flash erupted and out of it emerged a frightened Elena.

"Ulysses is in danger." She said,

"Huh?" Ana reacted first, her expression taking a dramatic turn as she questioned. "What do you mean by that?"

"When I left the Abyss with the Fixer, he was stuck on an island. Luckily I managed to find the pathway to the Abyss faster this time, but when I got to the island, he was gone."

"And you can’t track him?" Nadia inquired.

"No." Elena shook her head. "I can’t pick up on the dust I left on him."

"What are the chances that he has met up with his patron, the Lord of Flesh and Blood?" Alex asked.

"The ship was irredeemably damaged."

"But..." Alex proded.

"Even with the divine essence within him, it would be an uphill task," Ana said, perhaps the most aware of Ulysses’ capabilities.

Alex nodded. "Then that’s where he would be."

"We have to save him."

"For what reason?" Alex asked with a raised brow.

Ana gawked at Alex’s response. "What do you mean for what reason?... He could be in danger."

"He knew the risks when he decided to take on the Trial. Do you dare say that if he can’t handle it, you would?"

"But..."

"Allow the man to fight his own battles," Alex said. "Trust that he can."

"..." Ana hesitated before ultimately turning away while biting down on her lower lip.

A heavy silence followed only to be swiftly broken as Alex remarked. "Elena, you will head back to Confluence and periodically check on the island for Ulysses. Ana, you will continue your mission with your team. Everyone, clear?"

"Clear," Elena said with Ana making no response as she turned to leave with Nadia going after her.

"Be safe," Arwen said as she hugged Alex after which she went after the sulky dragon and her witchy sidekick.

Letting out a sigh, Alex glanced at Elena who was just about to take her leave.

"Before you leave." He said before pointing at the rapidly reviving body of the Many-faced Fallacy. "Send that into the Spirit World."

"Eh..." Elena paused. "Into the Spirit World?"

Alex nodded. "Specifically the Bogs."

Realizing what Alex was planning, Victoria asked. "What about the plan?"

"I am not about to hand over a portion of my pneuma to Vessina if I can help it. We’ll let Decad deal with that beast while we take the sword."

"The Broken Saintess?"

"I have an idea that might work," Alex remarked.

Elena and Victoria exchanged looks, clearly doubting the probability of Alex’s plan working.

But then again, they were also not comfortable with Alex handing over a piece of his pneuma to Vessina.

It would be the same as giving her the means to control him and make use of him as she pleased, a possibility that was less than appealing to consider.

As the wind speeds began to pick up, Alex glanced at the almost revived body of the Fallacy. "Any time now."

Elena swiftly acted, applying her Will to the aether, causing a pathway to the Spirit World to appear beneath the Fallacy.

It fell in without any struggle, arriving within the domain of Decad, the Prince of Rot.

The Greater Spirit sensed the arrival of a danger to its land and though it hesitated to leave Excalibur’s side, he had no choice.

Quite unfortunate.

He breathed out before taking his leave, but not before leaving behind a green fog.

Seconds after he left, Alex and Victoria arrived within the Spirit World, with Excalibur still in the place the former had left it.

Unfortunately, it was now covered in a potent fog of decay that caused rot to anything that came close.

This, however, did not stop Alex as he snapped, summoning Humphrey from his slumber.

The latter acted once he made an appearance, transmuting the air and creating a pathway through the fog of rot, though the spatial pathway was being eroded rather quickly.

Alex snapped twice, allowing him to shift positions within moments.

Within mere moments, Humphrey’s pathway fell apart but Excalibur was once again wielded by Alex.
