Chapter 608: One of history’s many mysteries
"I’m worried about Arwen," Elena remarked as she sat in the dining hall along with Nadia and Victoria. "This quest to the Wailing Peaks seems more like a death sentence than a solution."
"I agree," Nadia admitted as she played with the food on her plate.
"Yet you both agreed to accompany her on this quest to Henos?" Victoria pointed out, not even bothering to touch her meal.
"Didn’t you agree as well?" Elena shot back with Victoria snorting derisively.
"Make no mistake, I only got on this both due to the opportunity to be reunited with the master once again."
"We are still a part of Constellations, Victoria, and Arwen is one of our own." Nadia calmly said.
Victoria replied. "That I am very much aware of which is why when it is unavoidable, I will not hesitate to put her down."
"You can’t be serious," Elena remarked.
"Let’s just keep watch over her for now. As it is, our only hope of saving her might be the Wailing Peak."
"Fine then," Elena muttered, still disgruntled that Victoria would be so insensitive with the latter barely paying any attention to the looks sent her way as she looked around, scoping out her next meal.
Meanwhile, in another corner of the ship, Arwen sat within the confines of her room, curled up with her head buried in between her legs.
In a subdued tone, she muttered. "Help me."

It never crossed his mind that he would be imprisoned by the Goddess but Alex had to admit that it lined up well with what he’d had to go through to gain the Mantle of Darkness and Ashtyx.
He’d had to overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges to get them so now was no different.
If he wished to claim the Fountain, he would need to find a way around the Goddess.
But then, what way was most viable?
He immediately tossed aside the idea of accepting her proposal.
Alex had a feeling once he did that, he could forget about ever returning home.
He obviously couldn’t decide to die as well and alas, even though it was a bitter struggle to even consider the option, he couldn’t reach out to Nyx even if he wanted to.
Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that he was currently in the Goddess’s divine kingdom but he couldn’t even feel Nyx’s presence no matter how deep he dug.
With his final and most expensive trump card rendered useless, there was very little Alex could do on his own.
Without Nyx’s Authority, he was no stronger than a random Lock 3 Mystic and no way in hell would a Lock 3 Mystic be able to take down a deity, especially one that had reached the level of an Anti-God, the highest realm possible for a false deity.
Letting out a sigh, Alex looked down, taking the opportunity to look at the iron-forged city below before glancing at his subordinates.
Ana looked depressed while Ulysses seemed to be studying something.
"What are you doing?" Alex asked, out of curiosity and in a bid to not fall into complete depression.
Ulysses replied. "Studying."
"Studying what?"
"The city below."
Raising a brow, Alex inquired. "Why?"
"Because it shares characteristics with Iron’s Keep, the divine kingdom of the strongest deity from the third era, the Artisan, otherwise known as the God of Blacksmithing."
"How do you know that?"
"My family has mapped out twenty-five percent of Eventide; that percentage is a result of us mapping out the entire continent of Henos over hundreds of years. Do you think we would not have come in contact with such information at least once?"
"Valid point," Alex admitted before asking. "So what’s the divine kingdom of one deity doing underneath the divine kingdom of another?"
Ulysses shrugged. "Perhaps as a form of imprisonment. Ancient texts claim that during the fourth era, the Artisan fell in a battle against the Goddess of Automation and the God of Slaughter, after which he was imprisoned."
"So that hateful bitch knocked down the Artisan and then imprisoned him in his divine kingdom?" Ana chimed in from the side with Ulysses replying.
"Firstly, language, secondly, more or less."
"She lost her privileges to be spoken about nicely when she decided to lock us up."
Ulysses glanced at Alex, hoping he’d support him only to be met with a shrug.
Letting out a sigh, Ulysses intoned. "Anyway, I guess the texts didn’t lie. I can sense a tremendous amount of divinity below, different from the Goddess, though it seems to be dwindling."
"What are the chances that he’d be able to set us free?" Alex asked though he had a feeling the answer to that wouldn’t be favorable.
"How can one captive free another?"
"Thought as much," Alex muttered.
Silence followed for a few seconds before Ana broke the silence with a casual question. "What about the God of Slaughter?... Is he also imprisoned down there?"
"I can’t say. However, I’d reckon he would be under some sort of seal as well; after all, his domain is in direct opposition to the Goddess, so that means that if he ascends to become a Demon God, the Goddess would regress."
Spurred by curiosity, Alex intoned. "Explain."
"Well, Sometimes, the concepts deities of the evil and false inclinations represent end up being in direct opposition to one another; this can be good in some cases wherein both need each other to grow, making for uncanny alliances, and other times, if one ascends, the other regresses."
"If the Goddess of Automation and the God of Slaughter are a part of the second category, how were they able to work together to defeat the Artisan?"
"That I cannot say. It is perhaps one of the many mysteries history has to offer." Ulysses replied with Alex letting out a sigh as the thought he had fizzled out.
And so, the three fell back into silence with Ana deciding to join Ulysses in his observation of the rusted city below while Alex continued to ponder possible ways to escape his current predicament.
