Chapter 604: Late night rituals

Ulysses barely managed to keep his wits about him while Humphrey prepared for the possibility of combat, leaving Alex to watch the scene with a calm look on his face.

Finally, Ana concluded chanting, looking incredibly drained as she struggled to get to her feet before moving to stand behind Alex.

Just then, the center of the ritual circle glowed before dissipating to reveal a vortex that led to a place brimming with negative emotions.

Out of this opening, a purple-skinned Succubus stepped out, her expression not the least bit pleased only to quickly shift as she laid eyes on Alex.

Oh my, if it isn’t the Dark Lord. To what do I owe the pleasure of you seeking me?

Alex stepped forward as he replied. "I need your help."

Oh really?

With a snap, Alex retrieved a pulsating orb with red, green and yellow lights which Nyx had left for him after they had claimed the Mantle of Darkness.

Vessina’s eyes flashed as she stared at the two aspects.

To think you would still have that, I am quite impressed.

"I need a GodKiller, can you make one?"

Perhaps, perhaps not, what do I get in return?

"What do you want?"

Vessina placed a finger to her lip, pondering for a while before she finally responded.

Tru’s aspect. Hand it over and we have a deal.

Alex tossed over the orb with Vessina reaching out to catch it. "You can take it, use what’s left to forge what I require."

We have a deal.

In that moment, a mystical connection formed between Vessina and Alex with the orb serving as the basis.

With that, Vessina turned to leave only to pause before turning to ask a question.

Tell me something. If I asked something of you, a favor if you would, would you do it?

"It depends. If it is beneficial to me, then sure, if not, I would have to decline."

I see. In that case, I’ll let you know when it is ready.

And so, Vessina departed, taking with her the negative emotions that sort to pervade his room.

Ulysses let out a sigh of relief as he muttered. "That was nerve-wracking."

Alex offered no response, merely pondering the reason for Vessina’s question.

It seemed rather problematic but like many things he had come in contact with in this strange world, he was unable to figure it out.

"Come, we should get ready. I believe we are almost at the Boundary." He said, deciding to push it aside for the time being to focus on other matters.

It was late into the night when Sayda was called upon by a fellow member of the Coven with exciting news.

Everything was ready for the ritual to commence.

As she left her quarters with Douglas, making her way to the town center, she couldn’t help but wonder if it would be successful.

Before now, they had performed five different rituals, each one in a bid to find the whereabouts of the Midnight Pearl but alas, each had failed with one, in particular causing a full week of winter, a weather condition considered impossible in the desert covered continent of Emet.

The reason for the failures was simple; they didn’t know exactly how to go about finding the Pearl using the werewolves they captured.

It had taken several trials and errors before they figured out that they needed seven Betas, five Omegas, and one Alpha for the ritual.

Even several more to understand that the heart was the most important factor for the ritual.

After that, the sequence the ritual should go in became the issue.

As it was, if Douglas died, though they could bring him back, there was a possibility of eroding his status as an Alpha, turning him into a Beta or Omega which would effectively void the ritual.

His status as a hybrid was problematic but it was possible to resolve that so that wasn’t something to worry about.

In any case, Sayda didn’t care if the ritual failed or not.

She was one of the few Paragons that didn’t understand why the others were so hellbent on bringing back the Harbinger of Destruction.

Regardless, her opinions did not matter.

Perhaps, if she were to one day become a leader of the Paragons, she would be able to effect change, pushing them in a different direction that would still fulfill their purpose of uniting the world with the Judah Dynasty as the sole power.

The walk to where the ritual was taking place quickly came to an end as they arrived at the town center currently lit up by a massive bonfire with flames that burned a bit too high.

Around the flames were women, some were dressed as dancers with different jewelry while others chanted using deviltongue, causing the aether to stir.

Just as the chanting reached a crescendo, twelve veiled women stepped forward, each one holding a beating heart cursed by the Pearl.

Moving in tandem, the women tossed the hearts into the bonfire causing it to explode with a fervor, sending them flying.

This did not stop the ritual as the chanting continued along with the dancing as the yellow flames of the bonfire turned blue, emitting a chilling heat as it danced with the wind.

Taking a deep breath, Sayda took steady steps with Douglas following closely behind.

Once she was close to the flame, she pierced her hand into Douglas’ chest and devoured his vampiric characteristic, returning him to a pure werewolf.

"You are free." She softly muttered before shoving him forward after which he was shoved into the bonfire.

The blue flames of the bonfire devoured him, causing him to scream out in anguish.

Watching this spectacle, the ladies cheered as his hair and eyes turned snow white after which his entire body appeared to be on the cusp of breaking down.

However, Douglas survived as the flames died down, leaving him unconscious on the ground.

Following that, ink began to appear on his back.

The ink followed a certain pattern until it had completely outlined something.

Staring at the map outlined on Douglas’ body, Sayda sighed inwardly.

It would seem the Harbinger of Destruction would be making a comeback after all.
