Chapter 514: Taking care of Winter

Humphrey saw light once again and for a moment, he wondered if he had found his way into the Afterlife.

But then, he heard voices and instinctively, he turned towards the origin.

"How can you do this?" A muscular man who looked quite familiar questioned in slight annoyance.

An unfamiliar man, shrouded in a cloak formed from darkness and dotted with white light, replied. "I need him."

"And for that reason, you desecrate his corpse?... He was a great warrior deserving of a warrior’s death, yet you deprive him of that."

"There is no reason to waste good material if there is a means to repurpose it."

"You disgust me."

"I never hoped to impress you so give it a rest. There are much better things to worry about than this unless for some reason you are confident in defeating Winter."

"..." No response was given but it was clear the muscular man was unhappy as he snorted before proceeding to look away.

It was then that Humphrey deigned it right to speak.

I was unaware that you had relations with the Dark Lord, Alejandro.

Startled at first, Alejandro glanced in his direction only to reply. "I thought you would be devoid of consciousness."

Then, turning to the cloaked man Humphrey deduced to be the Dark Lord due to his aura, he remarked. "You hold such control over the Domain of Death?"

"He isn’t dead, in a sense of the word. Sure, his body is done for, but his Pneuma and Avatar remain intact. All I did was create a physical body for those things to inhabit, thus preserving him." Alex calmly explained though his gaze continually swept over Humphrey, seemingly scrutinizing the fellow thoroughly.

Nodding thoughtfully, Humphrey remarked.

Judging from your conversation, it would seem that I am truly dead.

"I apologize for coming late, old friend." Alejandro sincerely remarked.

Humphrey shook his head.

Even if you were here, it would only mean both our deaths. There is no reason for that.

"Regardless..." Alejandro intoned only to trail off as he realized that there was no point.

Letting out a sigh, he remarked. "Humphrey, this is Alexander Regulus but for the time being please do refer to him as Hunter. He has a weird obsession with the title."

He is also the Dark Lord, am I correct?

Humphrey intoned with Alex shrugging.

"I have been called that but I do not identify with that title."

You are not the one I met before my death.

"He is me and I am him. Due to his condition, he couldn’t continue so I am taking his place."

Humphrey nodded with renewed understanding before proceeding to look down at his hands.

Watching his physical form appear as solidified darkness interspersed with lines of light, Humphrey muttered.

Quite intriguing.

"I can send you back, allow you to die, or you can stay here and serve as my Knight. Your choice." Alex calmly remarked, causing Humphrey to meet his gaze.

Alex didn’t immediately respond and instead, turned in the direction of a gaze that was currently scrutinizing their group. "I could give you a long-winded answer but we don’t have the time for that, so you can make your decision after we take care of Winter."

A tacit understanding was brokered between the two as Humphrey also glanced in the direction of Winter with Alejandro the only one not daring enough to do so.

Charlotte bowed in reverence before glancing at Humphrey, her gaze holding traces of competition.

It seemed he would be sharing a role with her should he accept Alex’s offer.

"Here." Alex intoned as he produced a drop of blood that shone with a faint golden hue that seemed on the verge of dying out.

Humphrey quickly realized what Alex was planning... or at least, a portion of it.

My blood. I can’t believe you preserved it.

Alex intoned. "It was difficult."

Meanwhile, Charlotte paused, taking a moment to consider before proceeding to lick the blood directly from Alex’s fingertip.

Once digested, her form seemed to grow even more tangible, the light within flashing brightly as though it had just received a major boost.

But that was hardly all as Alex turned to Alejandro.

"I doubt this would work."

"We won’t know if we don’t try."

Letting out a sigh, Alejandro put out his right arm and allowed Charlotte to pierce it with her blade, drawing blood in the process.

Then, she stabbed herself with it, gasping as she felt the unique powers of the Rey flowing through her unabated.

If she were still a normal Vampire, taking in such Domains under Yang would result in her combusting but with Alex, her restraints were broken, allowing her to reach new heights.

"Do you have it?"

Meanwhile, Humphrey remained silent, his eyes following Charlotte as she pulled her blade from her torso, before turning in the direction of Winter.

Will this be enough?

He couldn’t help but wonder as Alex took a deep breath and snapped in quick succession.

Black and white flames emerged before spreading out, suppressing the chaotic weather brought about by Winter’s tantrum while multiple black and white disks began to appear in the space around Winter.

At the same time, Alejandro transformed into Fenrir and Charlotte began to charge up her blade for a decisive strike.
