Chapter 505: Paying homage to the Dark Lord
Chapter 505: Paying homage to the Dark Lord
It was an unexpected turn of events for Maxius.
They were the ones to initiate it all, starting from the moment they started the Blood Feast.
To think that their actions would come back to bite them was a cruel joke that needed no explanation.
Taking a deep breath, he struggled to get back on his feet though it was quite difficult due to how battered he was.
Hubris had made him wonder why Blood Vampires were considered to have the most powerful offense, now he understood properly.
Sure, his Psionics enabled him to attack in a variety of ways that weren’t just destructive but what happens when a good half of his capabilities were rendered obsolete and the other half barely caused any damage?
That was how he felt facing off against a maddened Gregory who was now walking toward him with glowing crimson eyes and skin marred by blood-red cracks.
"Gregory, get a hold of yourself, you fucking bastard!" Maximus cursed, an aspect he rarely ever exhibited as he felt such vulgarities were an affront to the beauty of spoken words.
But this was hardly the time to think about that as he struggled to get away.
"Give up, Maxius, give up and pay homage to Sister Crimson," Gregory muttered in a hoarse tone.
Maxius clicked his tongue as he sent out a psychic attack, hoping to destabilize Gregory so he could escape.
Alas, just as in several other instances before, Gregory remained unfazed, his gaze growing sterner as he took a step forward.
"Damn it." Maxius cursed again as he found that beating back madness induced by a 1st-Class Otherworldly was harder than expected.
It didn’t help that Gregory wasn’t even struggling against the corruption.
Just as he thought to utilize his telekinetic strength to make a getaway, Gregory closed the distance in a single step and swung his fist, empowered by congealed blood.
Maxius quickly put up a psychic barrier but that was hardly enough as Gregory tore through it like paper and at that moment, the undying Vampire felt his life flash before his eyes.
"Ah fuck..."
He expected death yet it never came, thus he was forced to open his eyes, allowing him to realize that something else had caught Gregory’s attention.
Taking the opportunity given, he sent out a psychic wave, blasting Gregory a few meters back before getting back on his feet and moving a good distance away.
As the prospects of dying were no longer so high, he was finally able to sense it as well.
He could feel the night.
No, not the twisted mockery they had created with the aid of the Blood Feast, but the Night mythology claimed the Kindred were birthed from.
It was soothing, unlike the rage-infused aura of the Bloody Night.
Instinctively, he glanced toward the origin of the serene feeling and then, he saw him.
He was ensconced in an attire befitting one carrying the title of the Dark Lord.
His face was obscured and his aura radiated the beautiful aura of Night.
On his right side stood a beautiful female vampire unfamiliar to Maxius while on his left was Vorigan, the oldest Monarch with all three standing on the head of the Basilisk, a Higher Spirit from the depths of the Spirit World.
Maxius felt the innate desire to go closer, to bask in the serenity of the Night.
But then, he held himself back and chose to watch how things would unfold especially when Gregory and all other Blood Vampires turned their attention to the Dark Lord, radiating killing intent toward him.
Meanwhile, Alex looked upon the battlefield with a complicated look on his face.
The land was covered in ashes, copious amounts of blood, and most of all, madness.
Above, he could sense the curious gaze of that disgusting entity peering down at him but he didn’t bother looking back at it, especially when those below had begun to stare at him with a desire to end his existence.
Just then, Vorigan broke down, weeping in silence for his fallen brethren.
This caused Alex to realize that the Vampires were not completely monsters.
Just like Claudia, they also had things they cared about, as much as they hated the Empire.
Regardless, this wasn’t the time to introspect such matters as the first round of attacks erupted.
Several bloody spears were fired, intent on putting holes through his puny body.
Poised to snap, Alex watched as the Great Devourer acted, her eyes flashing for a moment before everything in her line of sight turned to stone.
Quite an intriguing show of strength but it was hardly enough as three Monarchs and several thousand Blood Vampires charged at Alex.
Pa
Eternal Night unfurled a moment later, obscuring the red sky above and allowing the Vampires below to bathe in the light of a starry night sky.
Then, he pushed, utilizing the calming nature of the Ability to assault the three Monarchs.
All three paused, struggling to fight back against the serenity before finally, they succumbed.
Just like them, their Sired also turned calm, their expressions shifting as they wondered why they had been fighting a moment prior.
Just like that, the battlefield entered a lull as everyone found themselves awed by the beauty of Eternal Night.
Maxius was the first to speak, his voice echoing across the land, filled with reverence. "He has come!... The Dark Lord is truly here!"
Following him, several others began to gaze upon Alex, their eyes filled with a desire to worship.
Many hadn’t believed and had only used the fallacy of the Dark Lord to attack the Empire, but now, standing before the prophesied figure that was to lead them to the Promised Land, none dared to doubt.
Just like that, all bowed save for the Monarchs. "We pay homage to the Dark Lord!"
Victoria smiled in excitement at the sight of Alex being acknowledged as the Dark Lord while Alex noticed the emotions of the Monarchs.
Just as he suspected and confirmed, not all were happy about his presence.
