Chapter 498: It’s a Trial
Chapter 498: It’s a Trial
"Alice, I’m going to need you to calm down." Finn intoned after he’d been dragged away from Alex by his sister who was without a doubt, quite furious.
"Are you out of your mind?" Alice asked, the mouth on her palm biting down on Finn as she glared at him.
"Damn it!" Finn cursed aloud as he pulled his arm away. "I said calm down."
"What is wrong with you?... How could you so easily put aside the fact that that man is the Dark Lord?... Have you forgotten that he is essentially the reason the war with the Night Kindred is currently happening?" As she spoke, Alice continuously pointed in Alex’s direction, reminding the latter that the conversation the Chimeras were having was about him though there was no need since he could hear them quite clearly.
Alex couldn’t be sure if the lady, Alice, was just that bad at discretion or if she just didn’t care.
It was hard to tell.
What now master?
Charlotte inquired as she stood beside Alex.
"Let them talk, we have more important things to worry about," Alex remarked as he turned away from the Chimeras, shifting his gaze to the ice wall that stood tall before him.
Behind it was the ice castle that pierced the sky, looking even more imposing up close.
The ice was solid but slightly different from what he recalled Douglas using before his dual domain evolved into the singularity, Motion.
It held a chaotic nature to it which was expected considering its source was from the Abyss.
Letting out a sigh that caused a white mist to escape his lips, Alex snapped and Embers erupted, quickly eating away at the ice wall, revealing a passage through.
"Come," Alex remarked as he stepped through with Charlotte moving to walk by his side.
The Chimeras, still in argument, were forced to pause as they noticed Alex’s actions, prompting them to chase after him.

Alejandro healed at a rate that left the Beastman incredibly perplexed.
His mind was sharpened, his body at its natural peak, and within seconds, he found himself thirsting for the joy of combat.
"You seem to have picked up a few new neat tricks in our time apart, Alexander." Alejandro intoned excitedly only to pause as he noticed Alex staring at him a certain way.
Letting out a tired sigh, the Rey corrected himself. "Hunter."
"I shared the healing properties of my domain with you. So you should be able to heal sooner than you initially anticipated."
"Absolutely," Alejandro remarked as he got to his feet before adding with a smile. "I owe you a great deal, Hunter."
Alex acknowledged his thanks after which the Rey let out a howl, utilizing his Power over Earth to swiftly rearrange the positions of his people to ensure that none would be exposed to the red light of the sky outside Alex’s Ability.
It wouldn’t be long before he was done.

The ice wall was ridiculously thick but after a bit of effort, Alex found himself on the other side, allowing him a glimpse of what lay ahead.
Everything seemed normal, a bit too normal perhaps.
Apart from the snow that was almost ankle deep, there were no monsters, no creatures waiting to pounce, and most of all, no Otherworldly waiting to receive them.
Perhaps the only oddity was the towering castle that could be seen from outside the wall was non-existent within.
Furrowing his brows, Alex snapped and teleported to the top of a roof, allowing him to overlook a portion of the town.
"I can sense them," Finn muttered as he came to stand beside Alex.
"Who?"
"My siblings."
"Where are they?"
Finn pointed in a certain direction. "Over there."
Alex furrowed his brows as he couldn’t help but feel like the direction he’d pointed in was familiar.
"Sweep the vicinity."
Yes, master.
Before Finn or Alice could say a word, Charlotte disappeared.
"What are you planning here, Dark Lord?" Alice inquired, sparing no effort to hide her hostility toward him.
Alex spared her a perfunctory glance. "You do realize that I am not your enemy."
"Tell that to the millions that have died at the hands of those championing your cause."
Alex chuckled as he turned away. "Even a fool would be able to tell that their actions are not because of me. They may sing my name, but they do not truly believe I am their savior. Perhaps, a minority exists but the vast majority only act for one reason."
"And what could that be?"
"Don’t ask me stupid questions." Alex shot back just as Charlotte reappeared.
"Report."
There are no hostiles apart from the strange snow.
"What about the citizens?"
They are all asleep. However, some of them have begun to suffer frostbite. It won’t be long before they succumb to the chill and peacefully die.
Alex went silent as he couldn’t help but feel like the current situation held an eerie similarity to what had happened at Townsend.
"It’s a Trial," Alex remarked with renewed understanding.
"If we deal with the source of the anomaly, we should be able to save everyone," Finn remarked.
"We?" Alex raised a brow, almost tempted to follow up with, ’didn’t know you spoke French’.
"Against the Abyss, I fear that my sister and I are painfully in need of assistance."
"There is no way you guys haven’t thought of a means to combat the problem."
"We did," Alice remarked begrudgingly. "It’s by having a Mystic adept at mental defense with us."
Alex made to speak only to pause as he realized that in this case, that was him.
"Before me, there was who?"
"Miss Adelia," Finn replied with Alice glaring at him.
"Finn!"
"He is here to help us. If he was an enemy, he could have killed us by now. So stop with this and focus on the task at hand!"
Alice huffed and puffed but ultimately turned away with her arms crossed.
Letting out a sigh, Finn glanced at Alex who was massaging his temple. "Apologies for that."
"It’s fine, let’s get going."
"We should exercise..."
