Chapter 471: Regulus siblings reunion

Adelia sat in the communications room, watching as her subordinates tried to reach out to the local law enforcement in the cities closest to the capital.

So far, there had been no off-putting news but that only made her even more apprehensive as it meant that the Incursion might end up being in a hidden location, one that wouldn’t be easily found.

Meanwhile, her Exarchs were on standby, prepared to set out at a moment’s notice.

After almost an hour had passed with her patience running thin, Adelia suddenly got to her feet, prepared to take a more active approach instead of just sitting around and doing nothing.

However, just as she turned to leave, one of the radio handlers reached out to a certain city only to be met with static.

This was understandable considering the state of the continent had made radio communication unstable.

But then on the second try, a voice was heard... one filled with unparalleled terror.

"It’s coming, it’s coming!... Nothing works, no guns, no cannons, not even Quillion!... It’s sending those disgusting things!... Somebody help us!!!... No, stay away, stay away!!!... Ahhh!!!"

And the line went dead.

Immediately, the hall was drenched in silence as a palpable tension arose.

Looks were exchanged before finally, Adelia broke the ice. "Where was that from?"

"A town called Hillsborough, Ma’am." The handler replied, his voice filled with tremors.

Turning to another set of people standing over a map, she inquired. "How far away is it?"

"Roughly a day and a half."

Taking a deep breath, Adelia turned to the handler who had contacted the city. "Keep trying to reach them."

Picking up a smaller radio, she added. "And keep me updated."

"Yes ma’am." The handler replied with a nod.

Taking a deep breath, Adelia addressed everyone in the room. "We will get through this, ladies and gentlemen. Do not falter now."

With those words, she turned and left the office only for her Exarchs to be upon her a moment after.

Smiley inquired. "What do you think, My Lady?"

"I think we are about to face off against a First Class Otherworldly which is basically code for Abyssal God with nothing but a bit of firepower and a lot of wit. You tell me, Smiley, what are our odds of survival?"

"You said we would get through this, my lady. Do you not believe your own words?"

"Don’t act smart with me." Adelia spat in response as they continued on their way out.

Alex appeared alongside Douglas in a cavern with an appearance that gave it off as something man-made and not a natural occurrence.

Around it, three tunnels lead to unknown destinations but those were not his focus as his gaze landed on a sleeping Emily and Arthur seated across from her.

"Emily," Douglas muttered softly as he rushed to her while Alex took slow and steady steps to meet Arthur who stood up to acknowledge their presence.

"You took your sweet time," Arthur noted as he came within arm’s length before shaking hands with Alex.

"Apologies, I had some things to take care of before coming here. How’s it out there?"

"It’s a madhouse," Arthur confessed with a faint sense of disgust. "Whatever those vampires did to the Nighteye continues to have terrifying effects on everything it touches."

"I haven’t had a chance to look into the situation."

"I doubt it would be of any interest to your cause." Arthur pointed out with Alex shrugging.

"Well, plans have changed. I’m getting involved."

"Does it have anything to do with your current predicament?" Arthur inquired, his gaze scrutinizing Alex as he spoke.

Alex remained silent but that was enough of a response hence the former Rey asked no further questions.

Meanwhile, Douglas held Emily while gazing upon her as one would gaze upon a child, with tender love and care.

Emily soon stirred, her eyelids flickering before she opened her eyes to find Douglas staring down at her.

Her expression shifted, from shock to pleasant surprise before finally settling on joy.

"Douglas!" She exclaimed excitedly as she sat up and hugged Douglas with the latter hugging her back.

"I was so worried," Emily muttered with Douglas patting her head.

The siblings remained in that position before Emily broke off the hug before turning only to freeze as she set her eyes on Alex standing beside Arthur.

"You..." She trailed off unsure of what to say.

Flashing a smile, Alex remarked. "Hi sis, missed me?"

Emily’s lips quivered, almost like she was about to say something but ultimately decided to remain silent.

Noting this, Alex inquired with furrowed brows. "Is everything okay?"

Emily didn’t speak and instead, turned away, burying her face in Douglas’s chest, catching the latter off guard though he did not rebuff the gesture.

Just like that, an awkward silence descended in the cavern.

"Hmm, well, I guess I shall be on my way then." Arthur suddenly remarked with a cough, earning a sidelong glance from Alex.

"Where are you headed?"

"No idea to be honest. Maybe to Lothrusia in the far South or maybe Saxon Republic in the northwest. Still thinking about it."

"You don’t plan to fight?... Because I could use your..."

Alex trailed off as Arthur suddenly put up his hand, silencing him while his ears twitched like he’d heard something.

At the same time, Douglas reacted, his eyes darting about as he noticed a disturbance in the aether.

Alex frowned. "What’s coming?"

"Not a what, a who," Arthur remarked as he slowly scanned the entrance of the three tunnels leading into the cavern, before adding. "An Abyss Wheel Mystic."

Soon enough, Alex heard it as well, the unfamiliar clacking of sandals as they slammed against rocks, slowly approaching their location.

Instinctively, he raised his guard.

Finally, the source arrived and with it, an underlying sense of dread permeated the cavern, threatening to engulf those within.

The trio raised their heads, their eyes zeroing in on a figure standing at the entrance of one of the tunnels.

The figure or rather, the woman, was dressed like a nun though her attire was a mixture of brown and milky white.

She wore a pair of thigh-high boots and her hands were clasped together as though in prayer.

A cloth covered her eyes, marking her out as blind but for some reason, the trio felt as though she could see them quite clearly.
