Chapter 463: Correspondence

The chiefs of Aragon were seated in the meeting hall of the Beastmen with Alejandro at the helm of the meeting.

Their expressions were notably grim as they stayed silent, seemingly in deep mourning judging from the somber atmosphere.

Alejandro let out an audible sigh before addressing the group. "We lost almost 10 of our brothers and sisters."

The number spoken caused the chiefs to wince, almost like they didn’t want to hear it, wishing to ignore the fact that their brethren had died just like that.

"Each one turned into grotesque trees possessing abyssal auras." Alejandro continued regardless even as it was difficult for him to say it.

Taking a deep breath, he muttered. "There is something wrong, brothers, sisters... Our Space Dial has picked up disturbances far beyond what it can properly calculate. We can only assume that it is similar to the disaster that happened to the Empire 300 years ago."

"But why is it affecting us?" One of the chiefs inquired, his tone heavy.

Alejandro shook his head about to give a response only to pause as he received a mental message from his regent.

His brows furrowed, he asked to ensure if she was sure and she answered with a definite yes.

"It would seem the reason we are being affected has been discovered."

"What is it?"

"The Blight," Alejandro muttered. "All those that transformed into those abominations were infected by it."

"But the Blight has never had more than a passive effect on us and it has never been determined that it shares a connection to the Abyss. So why is this happening now?"

"That, my friend, is why we might have to reach out to Zion," Alejandro remarked, causing the somber air in the meeting hall to grow tense.

None had forgotten that not too long ago they had conflicted with the Supreme Order.

To think that they would be reaching out to those same people now.

But did they have a choice?... Horrifying memories of seeing their people transform into abominations left them no choice in the matter.

If this was a disaster on par with the Great Calamity, then their only option was to reach out to Zion lest they continue to suffer in silence.

Satisfied that each had made their decision, Alejandro rose to his feet. "Let us stand strong, brothers, sisters. The Month of Astra has always been a trying month. As long as we stand together as one, we shall surely survive the brewing calamity."

With those words, he left the meeting hall, feeling the gazes of the chiefs on his back.

He had a responsibility as Rey and he fully intended to fulfill it.

Sayda trudged through the snow with measured steps, her face twisted in visible annoyance as she continually scratched her arm while ignoring the undead about her.

She had always wondered why the older generation praised the Warrior Wheel.

Weren’t they just slaves of those bastards in Alqara?

So what was the point in glorifying them?

However, her first encounter with them had taught her a valuable lesson.

They hadn’t mortally wounded her, no, that was an impossibility as she was a Daemon and they were merely Saints.

Thankfully, it hadn’t been the Battle God.

In any case, her battle with Robert and Charles had left her with a pain that though wasn’t severe, nibbled at her like an itch that wouldn’t stop no matter how much you scratched it or like a headache that wouldn’t go away no matter the painkillers one took.

She tried to use her divine power to drive out the antimagic messing with her but found herself unable to do so.

It was bound to dissipate but in the meantime, she’d have to endure the itch.

Scratching her arm until she drew blood, Sayda cursed aloud only to freeze as she sensed something.

Looking about, she reached into her stomach which parted like a mouth before taking out a crystal orb that was glowing with an iridescent light.

She whispered a spell in deviltongue, allowing the light to dissipate, revealing the image of what looked to be a dark hall with faint moans echoing within.

"Maryam, what do you want?... I am quite busy right now."

"You seem unwell." The voice noted. "Have you run into trouble?... I heard that those dastardly bloodsuckers have launched a war campaign against Zion."

"They have but I see no reason why that should concern you?"

"Considering I was given the mantle to lead this group while our mothers try to kill each other in the Negative Zone, I believe it should concern me."

Letting out a sigh, Sayda replied. "I ran into a bit of a problem with the Saints of the Warrior Wheel."

"Hmm."

"I had warned you to be wary of them. There is a reason our mothers respect them despite their betrayal."

"I am hardly in the mood for a lecture."

"Hah, fine then. Have you found it?"

"Not yet. Unfortunately, Fatima’s lead ran cold by the time I arrived. Now I’m forced to utilize other methods to find it."

"I see." The voice sounded increasingly disappointed.

Rolling her eyes, Sayda inquired. "If that will be all, I’ll be leaving now."

"Zara had a dream. Ra’as is about to face a terrible calamity, one that seems to be tied to the Abyss, so lay low for the coming days. Depending on what happens, you might have to return to Judah or provide assistance to those fools in Ra’as when necessary."

"I doubt I’d be taking such risks considering the circumstances."

"You have always been so cowardly. You do realize that if the Abyss wins, Eventide is doomed?"

"But I am not and that, my dear friend, makes all the difference. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a werewolf to catch."

With that, the orb dimmed effectively ending the conversation.

Letting out a sigh, Sayda placed the orb back in her stomach which had a mouth, allowing it to close up before resuming her trek through the snow.
