Chapter 425 - 8th Night

Chapter 425: 8th Night

/8th Night of the Month of Astra/

Boom

An earth-shattering explosion occurred, its shockwaves causing ripples that shattered the earth and melted huge swathes of snow as a large dust cloud blanketed the area.

Seconds passed before the dust cloud cleared, revealing a dark-haired woman at the center of it all.

Her clothes were tattered with injuries, both big and small, scattered around her body.

However, despite her weakened state, the woman seemed poised to rise again as she pierced her sword into the earth and made use of it as a springboard to get back on her feet.

Just then, a voice that spoke with a tone that seemed caring inquired. "Why do you struggle, child?... Do you not know that your actions are fruitless?"

Breathing heavily, Natasha raised her head to stare at the one that spoke, her dark eyes mirroring the pale-skinned vampire, donning a black and red dress with bloody wings and a noble demeanor floating in the sky.

"Look around you, do you really think that you can win this fight?" she inquired yet again though her caring tone had slowly begun to take on an arrogant edge.

Natasha gritted her teeth but ultimately found herself instinctively moving her eyes around the battlefield.

This snow-covered ’battlefield’, which was a prosperous city a few hours ago, was in a ruined state with corpses littering almost every corner she looked at.

Her subordinates, having followed her to assist the few remaining inhabitants of this city were already on their last legs as she watched them try to defend against the dual attacks of the Vampires and undead, both of which were unnaturally bloodlusted, a direct result of bathing in the crimson light emitted by the Nighteye.

"You should give up, child, there is no point in continuing this struggle. Call your men off and I promise you, as a member of the Bloodrose family, a chance to escape with your lives intact."

Natasha’s lips quivered at the thought of saving her subordinates but she wasn’t stupid enough to believe the words of a vampire, especially one that was being so obvious with her intentions.

So, she inquired. "How long before we’d be hunted like sport?"

Silence followed for a moment before the noble Cryptid sinisterly replied. "A minute or two."

Natasha raised her head to find that at some point, the Vampire’s noble demeanor was gone, replaced by a predatorial aura that sought to devour its prey.

And Natasha knew exactly who that prey was.

So even as she could hardly raise her blade, she did and with a deep breath, took an offensive posture.

The Vampire’s grin deepened, taking on a sadistic tone that caused Natasha to understand that this could very well be her last moments.

Just then, the earth trembled and shook with fervor, almost like there was something awakening.

But the Bloodrose noble ignored it as she charged forward, intending to send Natasha to the Afterlife.

Gripping the hilt of a blade tightly, Natasha swung it once the Cryptid was in range yet, she somehow managed to maneuver, utilizing her bloody wings before then conjuring a bloody scythe and swinging down without restraint.

Natasha saw her life flash before her eyes at that moment, then... boom

A dust cloud erupted yet again with the vampire pulling back her weapon... or at least, attempting to do so.

She found that the scythe would not budge despite her best efforts prompting her to utilize a wing to blow away the dust cloud revealing the situation within.

Immediately, her expression froze.

A woman with crimson eyes and an incredibly seductive aura stood wearing a dark cloak with an intriguing depiction composed of white dots and lines.

Of course, that wasn’t what drew the noble’s attention as she detected the presence of the Night from the cloak the newcomer wore.

Frowning deeply, she inquired. "Who are you?"

"You may call me, Ara." The woman began, her voice as seductive as her appearance. "I serve as Envoy to the Dark Lord and allow you to swear fealty. Failure to do so will result in your swift extermination."

The Bloodrose noble found herself unable to take Ara’s words lightly as the potency of the Night in the cloak she wore was too much to ignore.

Pursing her lips, she inquired. "What do you wish for?"

"Swear your allegiance to the Dark Lord and he shall grant you his grace."

The Cryptid noble hesitated before ultimately dropping to her knees while dispelling the wings she had.

"I submit."

Ara nodded in satisfaction. "What is your name?"

"Lucia Bloodrose."

"Bloodrose?... A direct descendant of a Monarch?... Quite intriguing."

Taking a step forward, Ara placed a finger atop Lucia’s head, tainting her with the Night.

"As of this moment, you are the Lord’s subject."

Before Lucia could respond, yet another tremor occurred but this time... it was accompanied by a potent malevolence that engulfed the entire city.

"What is that?" Ara inquired.

"A newborn evil god," Natasha answered as she struggled to remain standing, her breathing uneven.

She’d watched the exchange between Lucia and Ara unfold in confusion as to how to react.

She recognized the Night worn by Ara as reminiscent of Alex’s Power but was unsure if she was truly connected to him.

Regardless, the presence of a newborn evil god was enough to do away with any confusion she held.

An evil god was bad for everyone involved though Natasha had a feeling Lucia and her men would flee back to the Eastern Highlands now that the deity was fully formed.

Ara’s expression shifted as she muttered. "An evil god, you say?"

Falling into deep thought for a moment, She quickly came to a decision.

She turned to Lucia and commanded. "Leave this place, your presence is no longer required."

Lucia was left perplexed by the order but decided not to say anything in response as she held no desire to continue fighting with the birth of the deity imminent.

Rising to her feet, she once again conjured her wings and ordered her subordinates to exit with a few coming together to form a spirit gate that the vampires used to disappear from the battlefield.

"You just let them get away?" Natasha asked in slight annoyance.

Ara glanced back. "If you wish to continue your fight, you may go after them, I, however, do not have any reason to do so. The only reason I helped save your life is because the Master took a liking to you, do not overstep."

Leaving those cold words behind, Ara shifted her attention back to the waking deity at the center of the city. "You all may come out now."

The next moment, black and white flashes of light erupted after which four others emerged, each also donning the same type of cloak as Ara.

Then, almost like she was an instructor, Ara remarked. "Today, we shall attempt to suppress a newborn god."

Immediately, the expressions of the cloaked figures went blank with shock.
