Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 342: Dimensionality

Chapter 342: Dimensionality

As quickly as he’d been brought in, Alex was unceremoniously kicked out of Roland’s office after he’d finished addressing him, hardly allowing Alex to offer up a response before the door was slammed in his face.

Feeling rather amused at the temperament of the old headmaster, Alex felt that at least he wouldn’t have to worry about Roland getting involved with him though considering what he’d seen, Alex had no choice but to consider getting close with the headmaster.

The insignia etched on Roland’s robe would have held no significance to Alex before now but after what he’d learned from Lucius, he had to admit, it could prove to be quite useful.

The symbol belonged to the enigmatic organization known as the TruthSeekers or as it was known to higher powers, the Cult of Solomon which was created by scholars for scholars.

According to further explanations derived from both Victoria and Ana, Alex could surmise one thing about the organization that had somehow managed to implant itself in every relevant area humanity had conquered in Eventide, which meant the four continents.

They chased knowledge, seeking to obtain it for the sole purpose of helping human civilization advance.

Of course, they weren’t completely selfless when it came to sharing the knowledge they gained but the main point was that they pursued knowledge and Alex needed to know how they did that.

Unfortunately, Roland didn’t give him a chance to speak and since he’d heard a click after the door was shut, he guessed it wouldn’t help his cause to try entering back inside.

Sigh

"Professor Fitzgerald." A voice snapped Alex from his soliloquy, causing him to turn, regarding the maid that had brought him to meet with the headmaster in the first place.

’Ah yes, forgot he kicked you out too.’ Musing inwardly, Alex remarked.

"Would I be staying in my previous quarters or would I be assigned a new apartment?"

"A new apartment, Professor. Please, follow me."

"Mn."

Walking back to the elevator, Alex watched the maid push the first-floor button and as they dove back down, he pondered the possibility of making contact with a scholar from the TruthSeekers, though all scholars were technically a part of the organization.

In any case, he had effectively hit a roadblock in his trial and they might just prove useful enough to deal with that unfortunate circumstance.

Engrossed in books spanning centuries of knowledge worth studying, Elena found herself pondering the intricacies that abounded on the topic of dimensionality.

Under normal circumstances, this wouldn’t be possible considering she didn’t have the experience needed to properly decipher the words of the illustrious scholars who had studied the topic, one of which included the weird but lovable teenager seated a few meters away from her.

Of course, Elena wasn’t normal to begin with as she had the pool of knowledge amassed by Princess Berenice and the subsequent doppelgangers that appeared in this world before her.

On the concept of dimensionality, she sought to understand it better only because of a single thought though she wasn’t the one who bore the thought but instead, it was the Princess.

It stemmed from the mere fact that the accident that befell the ancient kingdom of Thebes hadn’t killed the citizens but instead had left them eternally straddled in a place in between dimensions that overlapped with the city they once called their own.

If that were all though, it wouldn’t be enough and so the missing piece needed to figure out the concept of dimensionality arose after the doppelgangers began to appear.

They were an unfortunate attempt by the Will of the World to fill in the void left by the sudden removal of the Thebeans by Ashtyx.

As long as the doppelgangers lived their lives and grew old to one day die, then those stuck in the other dimension would end up suffering the same fate, effectively putting them out of their misery.

Unfortunately, the Beastmen, on the directive from the Supreme Order, ensured they did not live.

And so, Princess Berenice sought to use the fact that she existed in between dimensions to give herself a chance of survival.

Thus, Dimensionality became an aspect she ferociously studied.

Others who had suffered the same fate had no hope of ever understanding it to utilize it how she hoped but for Princess Berenice who had held communion with the Godstone, it was but a matter of time before her studies materialized into results.

Now, Elena hoped to use that understanding to form a basis for her domain.

After a long silence, Nadia, who alongside Arwen, had taken a break from their practice to check on Elena, spoke up. "Any luck yet?"

"... More or less," Elena replied as she closed the book she was reading.

Letting out a sigh, she looked up to regard the duo before remarking. "It’s a lot to take in but I think I understand a bit about my domain."

"Would you like to test that understanding now?" Arwen inquired.

Elena didn’t immediately respond, taking the time to look within to ensure she had the right answer to the question posed.

Silence persisted for a time before finally, she replied with a subtle nod. "Yeah... I think so."

"Then, should we try it?"

"Yeah, let’s."

They led her to a space and after placing her at the center, both Nadia and Arwen kept their distance to avoid anything untoward from happening.

"Alright Elena, we are right here so don’t worry and do what you have to do."

Elena glanced at them, offering a nod in response before closing her eyes to focus.

Her first mistake was thinking that what she had experienced the last time was something as simple as ’teleportation’.

Instead, with her newfound understanding of Dimensionality, the truth lay in the fact that instead of moving through space, what she did was akin to shifting dimensions, basically swapping one she was on with the other she wished to go to.

Of course, this was but a simple description but regardless, she thought herself ready to carry out a test and so, she did, once again reaching towards that pool that made her unique.

Soon, her entirety was filled with a burning heat but instead of just releasing it, she envisioned somewhere else and keyed into that thought.

When she opened her eyes again, she found that instead of a stone city built underground, she was now within Evernight with the silver moon Illuminating the surroundings with a calming light.

Staring directly at the celestial body, a beautiful smile adorned Elena’s lips as a single conclusion was drawn from the change in scenery.

Success!
