Chapter 200: Look beyond what you see

Chapter 200: Look beyond what you see

An audible silence filled the precinct as Claudia and Roland stared wide-eyed as Ada was impaled by the Uncanny.

Looking down at the scorpion’s tail protruding from her chest, Ada grabbed it and tried to pull it out but suddenly found that a strange mist was released from the tail.

Her arms dropped almost immediately after which her body fell limp.

A slight moan escaped Ada’s lips as the purple mist invaded her body and destroyed all functions.

"This... we have to do something!" Claudia cried out in confusion.

Clicking his tongue, Roland exerted his will on the world before calling out. "Open sesame!"

A breach in space appeared before him after which a white Sabertooth tiger with three feather-like tails emerged from it.

Seemingly detecting something unpleasant, the tiger which happened to be a High Spirit scowled as its focus zeroed in on the foul monstrosity currently attacking Ada.

Letting out a throaty growl, it swung its tails, creating a powerful gust of wind that pushed back the purple mist permeating the building.

At the same time, it rushed forward, using the fluidity and speed of the wind to charge at the Uncanny.

Sensing danger, the Uncanny turned to face the tiger but it was too slow.

Before it could react, its head was split apart, and wind moving like a drill struck its torso, boring a hole through its body.

The sudden attack allowed Ada to break free from the impalement she suffered but alas, the poison was still within her body, completely ravaging her.

Claudia rushed forward. "Ada!"

Grabbing her before she collapsed, Claudia tried to do something but unfortunately, she found herself completely helpless.

Meanwhile, Roland focused on dealing with the Uncanny alongside his Spirit Beast.

For now, the situation seemed to be under control.

Alex saw his life flash before his eyes at the sudden attack launched at him.

Despite the darkness, he could still make out the terrifying hatred Charlotte held for him as she attacked without hesitation.

Thankfully Elizabeth was with him but it was clear she wouldn’t be able to hold out.

Also, the Crimson Knights charged in immediately after Charlotte.

For a moment, the glint of several red spears flashed before Alex, reminding him of one simple fact.

His death was close.

Gripping his staff, Alex quickly snapped his fingers, allowing his body to take on an ethereal form with equal parts black and white.

At the same time, a faint ripple spread out across the lightless edifice.

The spears passed through without much trouble but that didn’t mean the danger had passed.

Gritting her teeth, Elizabeth exclaimed. "Move!"

Alex rushed forward while still in his ethereal form, attempting to make it to the entrance leading to the sacrificial altar but hardly had he moved a few meters when a hateful gaze was thrown his way, causing his ethereal form to dissipate like a lie.

"Damn it." Cursing aloud, Alex quickly snapped his fingers again, unfurling Eternal Night without hesitation.

Meanwhile, the Crimson Knights were hot on his tail, giving him barely a moment to rest as Alex immediately snapped his fingers again, allowing him to merge with the night.

Seeing this, Charlotte didn’t dare to waste any more time with Elizabeth as she turned away from her.

"Don’t look down on me!" Elizabeth said as a silver light erupted from her chest, causing her to glow in an enchanting manner.

Charlotte glanced back at her, taken aback by the qualitative change Elizabeth had undergone.

However, it only took a moment before her shocked expression turned to one of mockery as she remarked.

"Burning your origin just so you can have a chance at beating me?"

Elizabeth didn’t respond as she prepared to attack.

Charlotte sneered. "No matter what you do, you won’t have your way!"

Boom

The entirety of the hall was wrapped in a Blood Cage, one created solely by Charlotte.

"If you want to leave, you have to kill me." With those words, Charlotte unleashed her innate talent, creating a bloody fog while wrapping herself with a cloak made of pulsating black and white.

Then without hesitation, she charged at Elizabeth and clashed swords with her.

At the same time, Alex was having a hard time escaping the attacks of the Crimson Knights.

Not only was the arena too small to pick them off one at a time, but they seemed to have learned from the experience of the Silver Knights as they did not attempt to separate, sticking together as they attacked him.

"Ugh." Alex groaned as he barely dodged a spear penetrating his vital organs.

He was stuck with running while trying to formulate a plan to deal with the situation.

Just then, the sound of metal shattering echoed in the hall.

He looked toward the origin to find that Elizabeth was already at a disadvantage despite burning her origin.

Alex gritted his teeth. ’Now or never.’

What he was about to do was beyond crazy but there was no choice.

Taking a deep breath, he rushed out of his concealment and leaped onto the stone table at the center of the hall.

Almost as soon as he revealed himself, several spears rushed at him and without fail, lodged into his body.

A muffled groan escaped his lips as he stood his ground before quickly snapping his fingers.

Two more spears pierced him from behind, causing him to fall to his knees before finally, another spear rushed in, intent on piercing through his temple.

"Wait!" Charlotte cried out at that moment, causing the Crimson Knights to cease their attacks.

Tossing the broken Elizabeth aside, Charlotte slowly made her way over, walking gracefully as she arrived before Alex.

"How does it feel, o great Dark Lord?" Charlotte asked as she crouched to Alex’s eye level.

"..."

"Does it hurt?"

"..."

As her lips curled slightly, revealing a sickening smile, Charlotte slowly rose to her feet before using her sword to slowly pierce Alex’s throat.

"You won’t die so quickly, okay?... I wish to keep you for a very long time." With those words, Charlotte pulled back her sword and attempted to move.

"Wait!" Alex called out in a hoarse voice.

Charlotte glanced back at him. "Do you have something to say, o great one?... Maybe you’d like to plead for your life?"

"No." Alex shook his head. "I just want you to look closely."

"... Closely?"

"Yes," Alex remarked. "Look beyond what you see."

"What are you..." Charlotte trailed off as she stared blankly at Alex, a certain thought crossing her mind.

It seemed as though the rest of what she wanted to say was lodged in her throat as she quickly shifted her attention toward the entrance leading to the sacrificial altar.

At that moment, two realities seemed to overlap with each other before...

Crack

Like a mirror shattering, everything she saw broke apart.

"Ah!" Charlotte let out a blood-curdling scream as she covered her face with her palms.

The Crimson Knights were completely confused but it didn’t take them long to understand that something was wrong as the Alex they had impaled disappeared like a lie and even the broken Elizabeth vanished as well.

Then a most familiar snap was heard followed by a voice, one full of life and vigor.

"It’s over."
