Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 187: Reaper of the battlefield

Chapter 187: Reaper of the battlefield

Horace was in shock as he stood in the garden of his manor, his gaze fixated on the night sky.

Several things ran through his mind at that moment as he pondered on his life up until now.

There was a lot he wished for and a lot he would have loved to accomplish but unfortunately, life wasn’t always fair.

Because of circumstances, all that was left for him now was death and the mere thought of that frightened him greatly.

Letting out a sigh, he dropped his gaze, instead looking ahead at the patio built at the center of the garden.

It was currently occupied by Damian and Horace’s ex-lovers.

The former busied himself with drinking the blood of one of the latter while massaging her breast lightly.

As a soft whimper escaped her lips, her other sisters looked at her with a tinge of jealousy and envy.

It seemed they couldn’t wait to offer themselves on a platter to the new supreme ruler of Krobridge.

Horace watched this scene silently while considering the possibility of escaping.

With red armor appearing at the periphery of his vision, He could guess that they weren’t high but it wasn’t completely impossible but he couldn’t bring himself to do so.

What was the point of running away now?... Shaking his head, he wondered when he became so brave.

Suddenly, the Vampire girl being sucked let out a pained cry before a terrifying snap echoed in the garden.

Horace was barely surprised at the sight of Damian holding the head of the one trying to serve him.

That’s just the kind of being he was.

A tyrant.

Such a person ruling only ever brought one thing to the kingdom he ruled over.

Complete and utter ruin.

It was the same story told throughout time and it seemed the Vampirekin of Krobridge would end up suffering the same date.

Horace sighed yet again as he closed his eyes.

"You should be aware that your accomplice is long dead by now," Damian remarked at that moment.

Taking a deep breath, Horace opened his eyes before nodding subtly. "Indeed."

"You could have been a loyal second in command but you chose to follow this path. I didn’t think you were so foolish."

"I apologize for not meeting your expectations," Horace spoke calmly, almost like he’d already accepted his fate.

What he hoped for was that the plans Damian had wouldn’t come to fruition, for that reason, he also chose to believe in the Dark Lord.

Damian seemed to have noticed his valiant heart as he sneered. "You are pathetic. To think you’d believe some random stranger would save you."

"I never believed that... Damian."

"..." The atmosphere in the garden dropped drastically as Damian glared at Horace.

Horace flinched but quickly recovered as he didn’t want to show an ugly expression even in his final moments.

He knew Damian well and trying to beg would only feed the bastard.

So he’d prefer to go out with a bang.

Damian slowly rose to his feet and in a dignified manner reminiscent of a ruler, made his way over to where Horace stood.

Coming within arm’s length of the latter, he reached out to grab his throat but hardly had he moved when Horace grabbed his wrist.

"..." Damian’s eyes shook as he stared at Horace.

Such boldness... was this the same person he’d subdued so easily after his rise to Monarch status?

He could barely see a resemblance anymore.

Horace met his gaze and calmly said. "You will never be king."

"I know." Damian spat back as he released the authority of the Crimson Heart. "I planned to become god from the start!"

The Silver Knights moved as one the moment Charlotte helped them overcome their fear of the Dark Lord.

It would have been a bit difficult doing so if only they weren’t present when Alex brutally killed their fellow Knights.

That was something that would never be forgotten and as was the way of Silver, it had to be paid double fold.

So, they charged forward, using the opportunity when Alex had his attention on the Spirit Beasts to draw closer.

Of course, they didn’t immediately charge in and instead, scoped him out from afar.

But then he disappeared without a trace, leaving them slightly flustered but regardless, they quickly put up their guard while using their senses to search for him.

It didn’t take long for one to detect movement.

He gripped his spear tightly and without hesitation, spun around and hurled it in a certain direction.

Pa

Almost immediately, a lump of darkness arose and grabbed the spear, holding it in place before turning it around and sending it back to the Knight.

The latter drew his sword and struck the spear aside only to pause as he looked left and right, seeking out his attacker.

Just then, a being cloaked in darkness and spotted with twinkling lights arose from behind him.

The Knight immediately sensed the presence, turning in one swift motion while swinging his blade but before he could complete the strike, he heard a snap after which he was held in place by several black and white tendrils.

Unleashing his aura, he tried to break away but of course, his attacker wasn’t about to let him have his way.

He grabbed his neck without hesitation and stared into his eyes.

"...!" A silent scream escaped the lips of the unlucky Knight after which black blood poured out of his orifices.

It was a sorry sight as he collapsed like a doll that had its strings cut.

Sparing the body a simple glance, the cloaked being spoke in a hoarse voice. "One down."

With the battlefield in chaos, it was hard to keep track of what was happening, especially since Alex had fine control over things.

Charlotte could sense that her connection with Evernight remained, which was within expectations but no matter how much she tried, she found it impossible to dispel Eternal Night.

It was simply because she didn’t understand the principle behind it.

Just like Black Hole, Eternal Night was an Ability exclusive to Earth with no known replicants in Eventide so naturally, her understanding of such a foreign concept was zero.

In any case, she decided to end her battle with Elizabeth as quickly as possible to provide aid for her men.
