Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 185: Charlotte’s fury

Chapter 185: Charlotte’s fury

It felt like a tidal wave, but instead of water, it was one borne out of bloodlust.

The suffocating feeling that accompanied it was enough to freeze everyone, save for say Alex and Elizabeth.

It was at a level where it wouldn’t be surprising if they passed out considering just how terrifying the force was.

"We should run," Elizabeth remarked without hesitation.

Even as the Liaison, she didn’t dare think that the power she had was enough to face the current threat.

However, before they could act on her words, a red barrier unfurled over the manor and its surroundings, sealing all exits.

Pursing his lips, Alex snapped and indeed disappeared with the others for a moment only to appear back in their previous location.

With a frown adorning his face, he remarked. "I doubt that would be possible right now."

"..." Elizabeth remained silent as she stared at the gates.

At the same time, the barrier ripped for a moment before a passage formed, and out of it, Charlotte and her Silver Knights stepped in, overflowing with bloodlust.

Roland trembled at the sight. "They are stronger than they were in the dukedom."

"They most likely absorbed the vitality of your brethren..." Elizabeth muttered as she scrutinized Charlotte’s condition, having already accepted that a clash was inevitable.

She could run and not even the strengthened Blood Cage would be able to keep her but unfortunately, she had company.

Even if she wanted to abandon the others, there was no way she’d leave Arwen.

As for Alex, it seemed the red barrier interfered with his teleportation.

He could move within but teleporting outside was no longer possible.

Alex let out a sigh as he glanced at Arwen. "Is there another route to leave this place?"

"...Yes," Arwen replied while struggling to withstand the bloodlust Charlotte and her subordinates were constantly releasing.

"That’s good," Alex remarked and at the same time, he unleashed Nyx’s authority, completely disrupting the suffocating pressure those on his side were experiencing.

Charlotte’s eyes shook for a moment but regardless, she remained poised, her gaze brimming with rage as she glared at Alex’s back.

"Go with the others. Don’t worry, myself and the Liaison will keep these guys busy for as long as we can."

"But..."

"Don’t worry, they won’t come after you. It’s me they are after anyway, so rest assured. Go for now."

Arwen hesitated but after meeting Alex’s gaze, she nodded.

"Alright."

With that, she rushed into the manor.

"Go with them." Alex addressed Roland who despite the fear in his heart, did nothing to curb the hatred he held for Charlotte.

"I wish to fight."

"You’ll only get in the way and do you think you’d be able to take on any of those guys?"

Roland was forced to hold his tongue as he glared at the Silver Knights behind Charlotte.

Each one of them held significantly more power than the 1st Duke who was supposed to be the strongest in Krobridge.

’Monsters.’ he thought to himself as he gritted his teeth.

There was no way he’d be able to face any of them but he felt he had a responsibility to avenge his brethren.

"There is no point trying to avenge your brethren when you don’t have a chance of winning." Elizabeth suddenly said as she stepped forward. "If you wish to be responsible for their wishes, then live."

"..." Roland was unable to describe the feelings welling up in his heart at that moment.

Elizabeth glanced at him briefly before adding. "Go. Help Arwen and the others get to the emergency exit. We’ll be with you shortly."

"... Alright." Roland, albeit unwillingly, turned and entered the manor, moving in the direction Arwen had taken Nadia and Claudia.

"I didn’t think you had such a side to you," Alex remarked.

"... I have no choice. I understand what it’s like to wish revenge against someone infinitely more powerful than you. Feeling the weight of the responsibilities of your dead relatives pressing down heavily on your shoulders."

"...I see," Alex muttered as he turned to face the reason for the current situation.

Charlotte kept her gaze on Alex as she made her way toward the porch at a leisurely pace.

"I heard vampires can’t enter a place if they aren’t allowed entry." Alex suddenly commented drawing a mocking smile from Charlotte.

"That rule only applies to weaklings. What’s the point of knocking at the front door when I can blow up the whole building?"

"Good point."

Despite the casual banter, the tension continually rose until it peaked at an overwhelming crescendo.

"What is your Monarch up to?" Elizabeth inquired as she pulled out her switchblades with a translucent aura quickly wrapping around herself and the blades.

It seemed she planned to go all out from the beginning.

Charlotte glanced at her. "What’s the point of telling you if you are going to die anyway?"

"The Great Families won’t sit still."

"Do I look like I care?"

"..." Elizabeth furrowed her brows.

"For so long, I’ve had to sleep in a boring coffin, hoping that a day would come when the Dark Ages would return but imagine my disappointment when I realized that nothing of that sort was happening."

"You..."

"Instead, you fucking Antimagic users keep finding new ways to threaten us. Homunculi, Golems, Runes... What the hell is this?" Charlotte’s words were laced with frustration, revealing her innermost thoughts.

"This..."

"So I’ve decided to screw all this waiting for the appointed time and take matters into my own hands. Screw the Peace Accords, it’s time for war!" Charlotte remarked before pointing at Alex. "And you..."

"Me?" Alex raised a brow.

"You were supposed to herald the return of the Dark Ages but here you are frolicking with the enemy. You disgust me."

"Quite unfortunate, though I should add that you guys were the one that started all of this. I could have left without causing any troubles but Damian seemed to have other ideas," Alex remarked with a shrug.

Naturally, his nonchalance added extra impetus to Charlotte’s anger as she directed her bloodlust toward him.

However, it was repelled rather effectively by a rather frightening power that caused her to frown.

"Demon God." She blurted instinctively.

Alex caught her statement but decided not to consider it right now as he snapped his fingers.

"In the heat of battle, it is always important to understand that one cannot be perfect in everything... which is why I sincerely apologize to you."

"Uhmm... apologize?" Charlotte raised a brow in confusion.

Alex nodded as he continued, unperturbed. "Indeed. I must apologize for giving off the impression that because you can copy my domain, you’d be able to exercise a greater Authority over it."

"You fucking..."

"However, this ends now."
