Chapter 167: Pawn

Damian was vexed.

Faced with a situation where he was surrounded by enemies and was currently in a location he knew nothing about, Alex remained as cool as a cucumber, unflinching in the danger that stared him right in the face.

He gritted his teeth as he couldn’t help but wonder; Was he bluffing or did he not place anyone present in his eyes?

Damian’s thoughts trailed off as he glanced at Charlotte and her party.

Quickly adjusting his composure, Damian remarked with a bit of sarcasm. "Conflict I brought to your doorstep?... That’s a bold claim, o great and mighty Dark Lord."

Alex paid no heed to Damian’s jest as he replied. "What do you want?"

"Hmm?" Damian was left momentarily speechless.

"What needs to be done for you to withdraw your incessant attacks."

"This..." Damian was completely flustered as he expected Alex to make demands when Charlotte informed him of his desire for a meeting.

He thought it would turn into a battle in which Alex would be quickly subdued but this... he couldn’t help but stare blankly for a few seconds, unsure of what to make of the current situation.

"Do not get the wrong idea, Damian." Alex suddenly said. "I am only saying this to avoid further conflict with you. There is no reason to continue when we have no quarrel with each other."

Damian pursed his lips for a moment, seemingly scrutinizing Alex before his lips curled at the edges.

"You ask me what I want?"

"Indeed." Alex calmly nodded.

"I want your authority," Damian said, leaving Alex speechless.

The latter remained silent for a full minute before he muttered. "What?"

"Give me your authority and you may be on your way."

"Are you joking?" Alex couldn’t help but ask.

Damian scoffed. "That is the only thing I will accept from you. Either give me willingly or I take it forcefully."

"Did they send you?"

"What?" It was Damian’s turn to be flustered.

"The crow mask," Alex muttered causing Damian to flinch.

Such a reaction did not escape Alex’s scrutiny.

It was enough for him to deduce that Damian was somehow connected to the crow mask, the mastermind behind the disaster in BoneHaven.

"What is his endgame?... Why exactly is he after me?... Tell me." Alex asked.

"I make the demands here!"

"I won’t ask again," Alex muttered, exuding killing intent for a brief moment.

Naturally, Damian caught this and as he turned to Charlotte, realized she was still calm.

’Is this also within expectations?’ Damian pondered as he steeled his nerves.

He had already gone this far, going back now was pointless.

The emergence of the Dark Lord threatened Damian’s desire to be a master of his fate.

He had been toyed around with and controlled for so long, he could no longer take it.

Meanwhile, Damian finally understood the emotions in Alex’s words.

"Now you once again threaten me with death despite the peace I offered... you truly are hopeless for now I see that you are a pawn, one picked by the crow mask and because of your foolishness, you are unable to see that you are being used like a mere hunting dog."

"You dare!" Damian bellowed in annoyance as bloodlust escaped his body, his chest region glowing an ominous blood-red glow.

Alex remained unperturbed by his showing as he continued. "You will tell me what Crow Mask wants."

"And if I don’t?"

Alex’s sharp gaze pierced through Damian’s confidence as he repeated coldly. "You will tell me."

He raised his hand to snap but before he could do so, Charlotte rushed forward and grabbed his hand, using her palm to keep his fingers away from each other.

His other hand was also quickly restrained by them.

The other Knights withdrew their weapons and closed in on Alex, all eyes on him.

But strangely enough, despite being held down like this, Alex remained calm, his expression as serene as a clear lake devoid of any ripples.

At that moment, Damian felt a deep sense of foreboding creep up his spine as something didn’t feel right but for some reason, he could not place his finger on it.

It was then from the corner of his eyes, he noticed the outline of a brown-skinned girl standing a few meters behind Alex, her eyes closed and her lips constantly moving.

Then as if noticing his gaze, the lady opened her eyes and met his gaze, before her lips slowly curved into a mocking smile.

Then she mouthed a word.
