Chapter 166: Confrontation

Alex watched the middle-aged Vampire paint the younger one with such focus, he could have sworn the former was an artist before his transformation.

It was indeed a peculiar sight, so much so that despite the reason he came here, he found himself watching the proceedings with interest.

Surprised by his calmness, Charlotte couldn’t help but wonder how the meeting would end up.

However, for the time being, she had to applaud the fact that Alex was nothing like she expected.

He truly was a puzzle tempting her to solve.

Alex noticed her gaze but paid no heed as he remained invested in the sight before him.

Meanwhile, Nadia seemed to be pondering something as her eyes remained closed and with her hands placed in front, touching each other to form a triangle.

Her lips quivered a few times but apart from that, she was as still as a statue.

Despite her strange actions, however, none of the vampires present reacted, completely ignoring her as she went about her business.

After almost 15 minutes of painting, the middle-aged man finally glanced in their direction before pausing, his gaze trained solely on Alex.

With disbelief in his eyes, he muttered. "...The Dark Lord."

The young man reacted to his words as he glanced back only to discover Charlotte and the others.

He seemed to be equally surprised that Alex was no fool to believe his barely believable gesture.

One could guess that this was the younger man’s attempt at proving superiority, a blatant show of aggression.

Alex guessed that he was the one he was here to see.

"You must be Damian." He remarked calmly.

A smile tugged at the corner of Damian’s lips as he replied. "Indeed, I am."

Then he added as he rose to his feet. "You may also call me the Monarch of Krobridge."

"I see," Alex replied, barely reacting to the vain title.

Damian’s eyelids twitched at the blatant show of disregard.

Despite that though, he quickly regained himself as he gestured for something from the middle-aged painter.

The middle-aged painter responded as he pulled out a parchment from his inner coat and handed it over to Damian, before retreating a few steps back.

The painter still seemed quite shaken by his presence as he shot a few glances at Alex.

Damian rolled open the parchment and after taking a good look at it, glanced at Alex and then back at it before his smile widened considerably.

Alex grew curious as to what the parchment held but knowing fully well that Damian would be more inclined to mess with him than answer directly, he did well to suppress his desires.

Then, Damian spoke. "So, you are the one they call the Dark Lord."

"I’ve been told I bear some similarities with that great figure, yes," Alex replied.

Damian nodded, scrutinizing Alex for a moment before he replied in a rather disdainful tone. "You don’t look like much."

"I could say the same about you." Alex casually retorted, not displaying the slightest show of emotion as he spoke.

Damian chuckled. "So what do I call you?"

"Hmm?" Alex raised a brow.

"A few foolish vampires refer to you as the Dark Lord but I believe that’s not your name, so which is it?"

"Is that necessary information?"

"Heh," Damian smirked. "You claim to be the Dark Lord yet don’t even have an identity."

"I never claimed the title."

"Who are you?"

"There’s no need to know."

"Are you Kane?... Or maybe Alex?..." Damian trailed off as he waited for Alex’s response but it never came as the latter remained poised.

Scoffing internally, he added. "Well, there’s no need to answer since I already know who you are... Alexander Regulus."

For the first time since he arrived, Alex reacted as his eyes widened for a brief moment before quickly recovering his composure.

How did he know that?... Was the question that crossed Alex’s mind as he stared at Damian, the latter staring back with confidence.

Krobridge and BoneHaven were so far apart, it was impossible for minor news from the former to reach the latter and vice versa.

Sure, the identity, Alexander Regulus, was famous in BoneHaven but that was because of one article and even the fame was not exactly widespread since the nobility of BoneHaven tried their hardest to suppress the news to ensure it didn’t rub off badly on them.

Except Damian was so meticulous he searched every single newspaper in the Empire, there was no way he should have known his true identity.

No... Alex quickly corrected himself.

There was another exception.

That someone from BoneHaven, someone that had connections to him, had divulged his identity to Damian.

Alex’s eyes quickly landed on the parchment Damian was carrying.

If his conjecture was correct, then that meant what was currently written on that piece of paper was information on him and possibly even a picture to go with it.

’The third party.’ Alex muttered inwardly.

Now he was certain that the mastermind behind the disaster of BoneHaven had some sort of connection with ’Alexander Regulus’.

The question now was what exactly was the connection and why was he so hellbent on making life difficult for him?

It vexed Alex the longer he pondered on it as it made no sense as to why such a powerful figure would be after a mere journalist.

Or was there something he wasn’t taking into consideration?

The next moment, the distorted memories Claudia had brought to his attention resounded in his mind like a struck gong.

During the time Alex remained in his thoughts, Damian watched the reaction that occurred after he mentioned Alex’s true name.

He seemed satisfied that he managed to get the upper hand in their exchange, after all, Alex had been acting so aloof since he arrived.

Now, it was time to capitalize.

However, before he could say anything, Alex spoke up.

"I’m surprised you’d know of my previous identity."

"Previous?" Damian raised a brow, not at all expecting Alex’s words.

"Indeed." Alex nodded before letting out a sigh. "But then, I don’t believe there is a reason to speak about my past, after all, it’s behind us."

"Is that so?" Damian found himself quickly losing the upper hand he so meticulously wrestled from Alex’s grasp.

Alex remained poised as he remarked. "I am not here to talk about my numerous identities, instead, I am here to end the conflict you have brought to my doorstep before it gets out of hand."
