Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition
Chapter 830 - 830: Story 830: The Sleeper Awakens

A low hum filled the lab as the containment override sequence finalized. The room's emergency lights flickered, casting eerie red flashes across the walls.

Evelyn and Mia froze, their breath shallow. The Apex Maw, a monstrous fusion of necrotic tissue and parasitic evolution, snarled as it pried open the mangled door. Its razor claws scraped against the steel, the sound echoing like nails on bone.

Then—the containment pod shattered.

A deafening screech split the air.

From the darkness, it emerged.

A titanic creature, hunched and grotesque, its skinless body pulsing with unnatural mutations. Its exposed brain throbbed, connected by thick, blackened veins running through its shoulders. Four clawed arms twitched, dripping with a viscous, foul-smelling fluid.

But its most terrifying feature?

Its tongue—not a single appendage, but a nest of writhing tendrils, tipped with jagged teeth that snapped hungrily.

Mia stumbled back, whispering, "What the hell is that?"

Evelyn's eyes darted to the terminal. The corrupted data flickered before stabilizing.

PROJECT: SLEEPER.

Experimental Subject #9.

Hybrid Infection Status: UNSTABLE.

The Sleeper's eyes snapped open—black voids burning with hunger.

The Apex Maw roared, lunging at its new rival.

The Sleeper moved in a blur, its grotesque limbs twisting in unnatural angles. It slammed a clawed hand into the Maw's chest, sending it skidding back in a shower of gore.

The Apex snarled and charged again, jaws snapping.

The Sleeper let out a shriek and—moved faster than anything Evelyn had ever seen.

It wasn't just attacking.

It was hunting.

Mia grabbed Evelyn's wrist. "We need to move—NOW."

They bolted, ducking past overturned consoles and broken glass as the two abominations tore into each other.

The Sleeper's tendrils lashed out, wrapping around the Maw's neck, arms, legs—pulling, stretching.

The Apex fought viciously, its own mutations adapting, its muscles swelling—snapping tendrils, crushing bone.

The fight raged, but Evelyn and Mia didn't wait to see who won.

They raced through the corridors, searching for an exit—until Mia suddenly skidded to a stop.

"Evelyn, look."

Evelyn turned—and her stomach dropped.

A wall of organic matter pulsed before them. The infection had spread further than they realized—this wasn't just a single nest.

It was a hive.

Then, the sound came.

Not just one.

Dozens of low, wet growls.

From the pulsating mass, horrific shapes began to stir.

The Sleeper wasn't the only experiment.

Mia cocked her shotgun. "Well, this just keeps getting better."

Evelyn's hands tightened on her rifle.

Then—the horde surged forward.
