Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition
Chapter 802 - 802: Story 802: No Way Out

The sirens wailed through the facility, a relentless scream of warning. Dr. Evelyn Carter's pulse pounded in her ears as she scrambled down the dimly lit corridor, her breath coming in short, panicked gasps. Behind her, the creatures that had once been her colleagues let out inhuman growls, their monstrous forms twisting in the flickering emergency lights.

She needed to find an exit—fast.

Evelyn rounded a corner, nearly slipping on a pool of blood. The smell of iron mixed with decay, a sickening cocktail that made her stomach turn. She skidded to a stop when she saw the security checkpoint ahead. The reinforced doors were still intact, the red emergency lights flashing above them. If she could just override the lockdown…

She sprinted forward, but a guttural roar made her freeze.

Dr. Malcolm Voss—or what was left of him—stalked into view. His body had fully mutated, his skin stretched tight over his grotesquely enlarged frame. His jaw had elongated into a nightmarish grin, rows of jagged teeth dripping with thick, black saliva. His hands—now massive, clawed appendages—twitched with unnatural hunger.

"Eve…lyn…" The voice that rasped from his throat was barely human.

Evelyn's blood ran cold. He could still speak.

Voss took a slow step forward, his body jerking as if struggling against itself. His eyes—those white, lifeless voids—locked onto her. He sniffed the air, his mouth curling into a twisted grin.

"Run," he croaked.

Evelyn didn't hesitate.

She bolted toward the security checkpoint, her fingers flying over the terminal. Access denied. "Come on, come on—"

A violent crash behind her. She turned just in time to see Voss slam a deformed fist into the wall, the sheer force sending cracks spiderwebbing through the concrete. The other infected were closing in, their bodies still shifting, bones snapping as they grew more monstrous by the second.

She had no time.

Evelyn grabbed a fire extinguisher off the wall and hurled it at the emergency override panel. The impact shattered the glass and sent sparks flying. The security doors groaned, then began to slide open—too slowly.

Voss lunged.

Evelyn threw herself through the gap just as the door slammed shut behind her. A deafening bang followed as Voss's mutated body crashed into the reinforced steel.

She stumbled forward, gasping for breath, her hands shaking. The hallway ahead was just as dark, just as silent.

She wasn't safe.

No one was.

Evelyn took a step forward—then stopped. A voice crackled over the facility's speakers.

"Survivors detected. Proceed to extraction point Bravo."

Her breath hitched. Someone else was alive.

But was it a rescue? Or just another trap?

With no other choice, she started running.
