Chapter 609

After throwing up again, Layla Lowell didn’t feel sleepy anymore. She clamored that she was hungry and wanted a late-night snack.

There were no vegetables in the fridge. Chloe Collins remembered that she had casually scattered some vegetable seeds under the eaves last time, so she went outside to take a look.

As soon as she walked under the eaves, she saw a bow and arrows in the corner.

They had been there before, and she occasionally practiced with them.

However, this time their placement was different from before, obviously someone had picked them up and played with them.

She didn’t mind and continued to walk forward.

Suddenly, her gaze became tense, and her peripheral vision glanced to the right, toward the main gate.

"Come out," she said. A figure, hiding behind the tree at the door, visibly flinched, then turned to run.

At that moment, Chloe swiftly grabbed the bow and arrows from the corner, turned, nocked the arrow, pulled the bow, aimed, and fired!

With a soft whistling sound, the sharp arrow flew out and embedded itself precisely in the tree, blocking the person’s path as if it possessed a soul of its own!

Chloe’s sharp gaze stared at the person hiding in the dark, and she said in a deep voice, "If you run again, the next arrow will not be aimed at a tree."

Upon hearing this, the person slowly turned around to face Chloe.

Standing there for a while, he remained motionless, his body stiff.

After a while, he tugged at his thick hat, covering his face even more tightly.

By this point, Chloe no longer associated him with being one of her fans.

He knew about this place and definitely didn’t learn about it just today.

Whether a friend or foe, she wanted to meet with him.

"It’s cold out, why don’t you come in for a cup of tea?"

She gently pushed her bow backward, and the white door opened inward.

Snowflakes suddenly fell from the sky, and the cold night wind was like a knife, chilling to the bone.

The person hesitated for a moment, then pushed open the small gate and walked in.

He walked very slowly, stepping heavily on the snow, as if making a decision.

Under the porch light, his face was illuminated.

"Edward Turner!" Layla Lowell cried out in surprise.

The wariness in Chloe’s eyes receded by half. "You know him?"

Still holding a spatula in her hand, Layla blinked her bright eyes and asked back, "You don’t know him?"

Chloe: "Should I?"

Layla hurriedly introduced, "Edward Turner, who just won the Spirit Elephant Award for Best Actor. He’s also, I think, Shelby Hamilton’s... boyfriend?"

At the last sentence, her tone was full of inquiry.

Her eyes were also on the man.

"Rumor."

The man simply said one word, then looked at Chloe.

His gaze was very serious: "I need to talk to you."

"You know me?"

"Sort of."

An inexplicable answer.

Chloe put down the bow and arrows, lifted her chin slightly: "Come in."

He followed her inside.

Wielding the spatula, Layla walked behind them, her eyes full of curiosity.

As soon as they entered, Edward sniffed: "What’s burnt?"

Layla cried out and immediately ran to the kitchen to check.

Two seconds later, Layla turned around, her smile more hideous than her crying face: "It’s all burnt."

"Chlo-Chlo, can you do it?"

Chloe expressionless: "I can’t."

Layla looked at the prepared ingredients, "What should we do then? I don’t dare do it anymore."

"I can do it."

Edward Turner suddenly spoke up.

Layla was surprised: "You can?"

Edward had already walked over to the sink and was washing his hands.

He said, "No problem frying."
