Chapter 225: Chapter 225: If She Doesn’t Sign, She Won’t Be Allowed to Take the Exam!
On Saturday mornings, there are usually self-study sessions, and students voluntarily choose whether to participate. In this respect, Affiliated High School isn’t like other schools with mandatory requirements.
However, once this rule came out, hardly anyone chose not to attend. Everyone was afraid that while they were having fun, their hardworking classmates would surpass them.
Rising from the bottom to the top is an honor, but dropping from the top to the bottom is a disgrace.
No one likes disgrace.
Even those in the Dreamers class who didn’t love to study were pushed by their parents to attend the self-study sessions.
Although Robert Foster wasn’t in the Dreamers class, he received the same treatment.
Early in the morning, he was awakened by Evelyn Thompson and asked to go to school with Chloe Collins.
Robert clutched his pillow, stared at his messy hair, and mumbled with sleepy eyes, "Mom, she’s going to the Chemistry competition today—look, she doesn’t go on other weeks. Why do you treat me like this?"
"Hurry up, Chlo-Chlo is having breakfast."
Evelyn stuffed a toothbrush with toothpaste into his mouth, skillfully squeezed out facial cleanser, lathered it with her hands and applied it to his face.
"Hey, hey, I’ll do it myself."
Robert gave in and washed up obediently.
Evelyn washed her hands, smiling with satisfaction as she walked away.
At 7:20, Robert and Chloe each sat on one side of the backseat, one energetic and looking at her phone while the other clutched a heart-shaped pillow with bleary eyes and gazed at the sky.
"I’ve decided that when I get to the classroom, I’ll sleep till the end of school. No one will be able to wake me up," he muttered.
Chloe remarked, "Professor Grant usually takes a look inside the classroom."
Feeling heartbroken, Robert put on a desolate expression.
The car steadily headed towards Affiliated High School, passing through the morning streets filled with people hurrying to work.
The journey was smooth until they were about two streets away from the school when they got stuck in traffic.
Driver Old Quincy looked at the long line of cars ahead, and couldn’t help but check the time.
Without any change in her demeanor, Chloe put her phone in her backpack and unbuckled her seatbelt, "Mr. Quincy, we’ll just walk from here. You can go back."
Quincy felt a bit embarrassed.
Chloe poked the drowsy Robert beside her, "Get off the car."
Robert felt like a zombie as he squinted his eyes and followed her up, grabbing her school uniform coat and silently following her.
Chloe looked back at him coldly but didn’t brush his hand away.
The two walked into an alley in an old residential area, and it would only take about five minutes to get to the school through this route.
Chloe often took this path when riding her mountain bike.
The houses here were marked with the character "demolish," but they weren’t sealed off, and the original owners hadn’t all left.
Early in the morning, there were people going out to buy breakfast and jogging.
Chloe naturally thought of Wanda Wesley.
The scene from that day was crystal clear in her mind.
The faces of those middle-aged people pressing Wanda to share money with them were like insatiable mosquitoes.
Just as she was thinking about it, she saw the familiar trio around the corner.
Two women and one man stood at the doorway of a small cottage.
The man had a cigarette in his mouth, took a big puff, pinched it between his fingers, and went on talking to the two women beside him, pointing to the sky and the ground.
Both women looked indignant—one with her hands on her hips, the other with her arms crossed, occasionally glaring inside the main gate.
"Mom, wife, I’m telling you, our little Wandy has a Chemistry competition today. If she doesn’t sign this agreement, we won’t let her take the exam and see what she does."
The wife slapped her thigh, "Right!"
