Chapter 208
The words she was about to utter got stuck in her throat at that gaze.
It wasn’t Mr. Ford.
Looking up, she was greeted by a face with profound features, clean and untouched by any speck of dust.
There was a particularly pleasant smell emanating from him.
Stunned for a few seconds, Chloe Collins couldn’t resist fluttering her hand in front of his eyes.
His eyes were covered with a piece of gauze; how did he manage to catch her so accurately?
Moreover, she didn’t see him below just now; could it be that he had rushed over in an instant?
A string of questions hung in her mind.
The next second, Alexander Foster let go of his hands, and she abruptly landed on her feet.
"Next time, you might not be so lucky." he said.
Chloe blinked, clutching the handle of the basket, looking at him, she asked, "Are you not blind?"
A very blunt and innocent question.
Mr. Ford coughed, walked over, and explained, "Young lady, our Young Master has excellent hearing. Coupled with God’s merciful grace that prevented you from getting hurt, remember, don’t climb so high next time, it’s dangerous."
"It was an accident today. If it wasn’t for that snake, I wouldn’t have fallen." Chloe said, looking at Mr. Ford with clear eyes.
"What were you doing up there?"
Alexander, at the other side, had already sat down, toying with a Go board, asked her nonchalantly.
Picking up a lucky persimmon that survived, Chloe put it back in the basket, "Didn’t you hear our conversation just now? I was picking persimmons."
Alexander, expressionless, was fingering a special tactile Go board, threw down a piece casually, ignoring her comment.
Chloe was curious. Stepping forward to take a look, she asked, "If you can’t see, how do you know the status of the game?"
"Finish picking the fruits and head back," he said.
Chloe was about to speak when she saw a fruit plate beside him. It was filled with various fruits, aside from persimmons, there were even longans from the south, and many other fresh fruits.
She looked down at the persimmons in her basket; only two were intact, the rest were rotten.
She thought for a while, stepped forward and said, "I’ll play a game with you, if I win, you’ll give me this plate of fruit. How’s that?"
Alexander turned his face slightly towards her: "You know how to play Go?"
Chloe put the basket aside, hopped on the seat opposite of him, and sat cross-legged: "I’ve learned some."
Alexander’s lips curled slightly, he said slowly: "Alright then, if you can beat me, you can tell Mr. Ford what you want to eat in the future."
Chloe was tempted. Recently, she had upset her Master, so there was no way she could leave the mountain. She didn’t have many choices for food on the mountain; this was a good opportunity.
"Alright, Mr. Ford can be your eyes. If it’s inconvenient for you, he can help you place the stones," she said.
Alexander smiled mildly: "Don’t cry if you lose."
"Wait, what if you win? What would you want me to do?" Chloe, being fair, didn’t want to take advantage of others.
Alexander pondered for a moment before saying, "Sing a song."
He had no particular demands. He was just bored, having a kid to keep him company to pass the time was fine.
Chloe blinked, "Sing a song? Alright, I agree."
After agreeing on the terms, the game of Go began. Chloe played with white stones, Alexander with black, and black goes first.
Mr. Ford was smiling as he watched the two, silently standing beside Alexander and being his eyes.
He explained the game situation and placed the stones for Alexander.
At first, Alexander was casual and indifferent.
Gradually, after hearing Mr. Ford describe the layout of the white stones, his expression became slightly more serious.
He placed a black stone on the board with a faint voice, "Young lady, who taught you to play Go?"
