Chapter 1666
Chloe Collins glanced around, everyone was healthy and not Mutated People.
He spoke in the local language that Chloe could not understand.
After listening, Alexander Foster briefly explained to her, "These people heard the news that we’re leaving and have been waiting here, hoping we would take them with us."
The two got out of the car and looked around to see a mass of people, each carrying some luggage, clearly fleeing for their lives.
The guards surrounded them for protection, urging these people to leave.
However, these people suddenly all knelt down, pleading on the ground.
A soldier reminded, "We must leave now, or we’ll be too late, and it’ll be terrible if the Mutated People catch up with us."
Chloe turned toward those people, among them a woman was holding a baby still in swaddling clothes, and in her tear-filled eyes on her dark face, there was a look full of desperate pleas.
It was her hope for survival.
Chloe looked at Alexander, her lips moved slightly, the words already on the tip of her tongue.
James Cunningham, seeing her moved, hurriedly said, "Miss Collins, we can’t do that. There are only five cars, even if we agree to help them, we can’t take so many people."
The soldier conveyed this message to the people as well.
Chloe was pondering this problem, how to resolve it.
She didn’t want to leave so many lives behind, thinking it would be good for the child in her belly to accumulate some virtue.
Just then, when the people heard what the soldier had said, they suddenly stood up, and a few of them ran to a pile of tall grass, revealing a carriage hidden beneath it in an instant.
The carriage, drawn by two horses, looked as though it could accommodate twenty people.
There were three such carriages, and in addition to them, there were four separate horses.
A man said many things to them, sometimes pointing at the carriages and sometimes looking at them, making a pleading gesture with his hands clasped together.
Alexander translated for her, "This man is from a nearby horse farm. He has many horses and claims they can keep up with us."
Chloe squeezed his hand and asked, "What do you plan to do?"
She left the decision to him.
Alexander Foster lightly curved his lips and said, "Do I even have a choice? Hm?"
His indulgent words indicated he had already agreed.
James Cunningham and the others immediately started making arrangements, urging those people to move quickly and keep up with them.
Meanwhile, they contacted the aircraft to inform them of the situation.
Having so many people following would certainly draw attention, but the guards were just relieved that it was night and the Safe Zone was the main battlefield, which diluted their focus.
The refugees were also very conscientious, quieter than the next, silently following behind.
The horses were of high quality and kept up with the speed of the cars without falling behind.
Finally, they arrived at their destination before daylight.
It was a broad, flat land that could be used as an airstrip.
The five cars and the three carriages behind them all stopped; people started getting out of the vehicles.
A captain ran over to report, "Sir, the aircraft will arrive in five minutes, please wait a moment."
Alexander Foster nodded.
James Cunningham breathed a sigh of relief, "It’s all my fault. It was me who called you here, and my superiors have already given me an earful. If something happened to either of you, I would be forever blamed."
Yet Chloe said, "You’re overthinking it. Even if you hadn’t called me, I would have come anyway. Timmy Collins is my family."
James Cunningham knew she said this to comfort him. He smiled, not quite sure what to say.
Soon, a rumbling sound came from the sky.
