Chapter 1606
The child was held tightly in the nanny’s arms, crying woefully, their sobs tugging at the hearts of both.
Right beside them was the railing, they were on the 19th floor, and if they were to accidentally fall, death was certain.
The nanny, perhaps also worried about this possibility, hence held the child and squatted in a corner, not daring to stand up.
Miranda Jones stood among the four people, unarmed, laughing casually.
"What are you all doing so tensely? I’m not a demon, right?"
Though she smiled, her face was full of despair and hatred.
She hated Charles Carrington for making her wait in vain for many years, and she hated Layla Lowell for becoming the exception in his life.
The things she had wanted to do for him, which he never gave her the opportunity to, were now seen through Layla Lowell—she saw the image of who she had dreamed of becoming in her.
How she hated it!
She was already in such despair, and yet fate had to rub salt in her wound; just moments ago, when she had left the parking lot, an old man had burst out from somewhere in the residential area and bitten her relentlessly.
She knew, all her hopes were gone!
So, it might as well be here, dragging them to accompany her in death!
She slowly turned her head and looked at Dawn Lowell in the nanny’s arms, "Dawn, come to Teacher, Teacher will take you to a fun place."
The moment she turned around, Charles Carrington moved swiftly from behind her, restrained her hands, and quickly pressed her to the ground.
The move was swift and decisive, without any hesitation.
Miranda Jones was pinned to the ground, her hands immobilized, powerless to resist.
Layla Lowell quickly rushed over to take the child away, and the three of them ran towards the house.
Reaching the doorway, she looked back and handed the child to the nanny again, "Auntie, take Dawn inside first, and lock the door!"
The nanny nodded and immediately complied.
Charles Carrington’s voice came through, "Don’t make a scene, go inside as well, and I’ll be there shortly!"
Layla Lowell didn’t listen to him and dashed straight into the stairwell, where she found a coil of rope left there by maintenance workers.
She ran over, untied the rope, and began wrapping it around Miranda Jones’ hands, "Chlo-Chlo said, everyone’s time to turn after being infected is different, some change instantly after a bite, some might take three days, regardless, it’s safer to tie her hands first, otherwise, there are children upstairs too, they often come to play with Dawn, and if they get infected, the whole building would be done for."
"Leave the rope, I can handle it, you better go back!"
"I won’t go back!" She suddenly raised her voice, her almond eyes staring into his, the tremor in her moist and glistening pupils.
She was afraid.
Without saying anything, she continued to wrap the rope around the hands.
Charles Carrington saw her urgent yet calm and orderly demeanor. Although he was worried, he was also moved.
Finally, he nodded, "Okay, we’ll do it together."
Miranda Jones, listening to their conversation, felt her heart swelling with bitter grief.
It was an extreme form of envy and jealousy, along with an unwillingness to accept.
She wanted to accuse, to curse, and to vent loudly.
But she couldn’t say anything, her throat suddenly felt very hoarse, as if it was blocked by an unknown mucus, making her voice harsh and unpleasant.
She began to cry loudly, sobbing, and as she cried, she suddenly took deep breaths, her breathing gradually becoming difficult!
Layla Lowell, seeing her like this, felt her emotions become more complex.
She paused, then said, "The ambulance will be here shortly, when you get to the hospital, cooperate with the treatment properly!"
Miranda Jones’ eyes widened excessively, filled with hatred as she looked at her. Suddenly, she fiercely opened her mouth, her strength instantly becoming great enough to break the ropes.
