His Wife Calls The Shots -
Chapter 1562 Heartbeat_1
Chapter 1562: Chapter 1562 Heartbeat_1
He fell to his knees so unexpectedly, with a ring in his hand.
For Layla Lowell, this gesture absolutely stunned her.
Over the past two years, Charles Carrington had often mentioned marriage, but he had never actually proposed like this.
"You..."
She found herself unable to speak, and took a step back.
Charles Carrington looked at her sincerely, "I know you are unsure about me, but you must believe that I have changed. Please give me a chance."
His tone was unusually sincere, without any detectable flaws.
Layla Lowell was almost on the verge of relenting.
Just then, flashbacks of his past actions flooded her mind.
His unabashed approach towards other women had disgusted her for a long time.
"No...No!" she reaffirmed, "I will not marry you!"
With a bang, she turned and closed the bedroom door behind her, leaning against it as she breathed heavily.
Her heart began to pound furiously, drumming at a rapid pace.
He knocked on the door.
"Fishie, if we don’t get married, can we get back together and date properly starting from tomorrow?"
She didn’t respond.
He spoke again, "Tomorrow at noon, I’ll be waiting for you at Central Plaza."
"I’m not going to come!"
"I’ll wait for you."
Soon after he said those words, footsteps could be heard outside, followed by the sound of a door closing.
Layla Lowell took a deep breath and slowly opened the door to peek outside.
He had indeed left.
A sudden wave of desolation enveloped her, causing a sense of inexplicable discomfort.
She didn’t know where their relationship could go, but every time she faced a decision, she simply couldn’t make up her mind.
Her friends often told her that she was too timid and cautious, which was unlike her character.
Only she knew that her fearlessness in the past was due to her lack of fear of losing.
But now, she was afraid of loss.
Having already endured the pain once, she dared not delve into it again lightly.
Who knew if this man changed his mind every day?
After a restless night, she didn’t manage to fall asleep.
After daylight, she sent her daughter to the kindergarten before heading home to catch up on sleep.
Halfway through her sleep, she woke up with a start.
She picked up her phone and glanced at it. It was noon.
She recalled his words from yesterday: I will be waiting for you at Central Plaza at noon.
"No way, he can’t be serious, right?" she murmured to herself.
"But I clearly said I wouldn’t go. He wouldn’t be so foolish as to wait there, would he?"
A flash of lightning lit up the room, followed by the booming sound of thunder!
She jumped in surprise.
Looking out of the window, a heavy rain had already started pouring.
"It’s raining. He wouldn’t have gone, would he?"
"He’s a twenty-nine-year-old man, not a nineteen-year-old boy. Who would be so childish as to stay there and wait?"
After mumbling to herself for a while, she dialed his number.
It was picked up after only one ring.
"Where are you?!" The man’s voice was drowned out by the loud sound of rain.
"I... I’m at home." Her voice trailed off.
"At home?"
"I’ve already said I wouldn’t go. You heard it!"
She was so angry that she ended the call immediately.
After a while, her phone started ringing again.
She answered it angrily.
"What do you want?"
"Come over. My clothes are wet. Bring a change of clothes for me."
The man hung up after saying that.
Layla Lowell felt a surge of anger inside her, but she was helpless.
She tossed her phone aside, retorting, "I’m not going. I did say I wasn’t going!"
With such heavy rain and it being the weekend, who would want to go out?
