Chapter 148: Chapter 148: A Single Sentence Blocking His Way
Chapter 148
After a while, Raine Nolan’s gaze finally regained focus.
She asked Cherry Foster, "Cherry, did your second brother really invite Camille?"
Cherry Foster nodded, "Yes, he’s even inviting her over for dinner at our home tomorrow."
She tilted her head and looked at Raine, "Are you her fan?"
Raine had come over as soon as she heard about Camille, and it was already her third time asking about her today, so Cherry finally asked the question.
Raine smiled and casually said, "Yes."
She had studied fragrance for many years and had heard Camille’s name before.
It was rumored that her students were all masters in the fragrance industry, and nearly ninety percent of the perfumes in the world today were created by them.
However, to say she admired Camille would be an exaggeration.
Raine was still young, with plenty of time and opportunities. If they were put at the same starting point, it was hard to say who would win or lose.
Camille’s participation in this competition was a good opportunity for her.
Chloe Collins was having dinner with the Master in the main building that night and didn’t return to the East wing.
As soon as the dishes were placed on the table, the sound of a servant’s voice came from the doorway, and it turned out that Alexander Foster had arrived.
"Why are you here too?" the Master asked indifferently.
At the same time, a servant pulled out the chair next to the Master for Alex to sit down.
Alex pretended not to see it, walked to Chloe Collins’ side, and pulled out a chair to sit down.
"It might be lonely for Grandpa to eat alone, so I came to accompany you."
The Master scoffed, "Having Chlo-Chlo here is enough, what are you here for?"
Alex’s eyes were fixed on the girl next to him and replied to the Master, "To help with her studies."
"Help with her studies?" The Master raised an eyebrow.
Chloe also glanced at him.
Alex calmly said, "The results of the monthly exams came in, and she scored zero in both Chinese and English. Her disparity in subjects is too severe. At this rate, she won’t be able to get into a good university. So, she needs extra lessons. It just so happens that I’m free for these two days."
"Oh..." The Master chuckled and turned to Chloe, "Chlo-Chlo, let me tell you, this young man has always been outstanding academically. You should learn from him, and I’m sure your grades in these two subjects will improve, right?"
Chloe said, "I have my own plans for this matter, so there’s no need to bother him."
"It’s no trouble at all," Alex insisted.
The Master’s eyes widened a bit, and a smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
The Fosters’ cold-hearted young man finally showed some ambition!
"Ahem, Chlo-Chlo, let me tell you, there’s no need to find a teacher outside since we already have one at home. Otherwise, I could have taught you myself," the Master said.
Chloe had nothing more to say.
After dinner, in Alex’s study room.
As the printer clattered, Alex handed Chloe the freshly printed essay question, "Read the topic and finish within thirty minutes."
It was a set of real questions from previous years, with the essay topic requiring a picture interpretation and any genre of writing.
"Can you understand it?" Alex asked.
Without picking up her pen, Chloe asked calmly, "Do you like me?"
She did not raise her head, just sat there, her voice very composed.
A brief flash of annoyance crossed Alex’s face, and then, he smiled lightly, "Yes, I like you."
Chloe stood up, her bright beautiful eyes filled with a hint of mischief as she looked at him, "Then are you willing to die for me?"
Her voice was unhurried, even carrying a touch of arrogant provocation, gradually reaching the young man’s ears.
Attractive colors appeared on Alex’s handsome face as he silently gazed at her.
His deep, mysterious eyes were filled with scrutiny, never leaving her.
This question was a dead end.
If he said he was willing, it would seem too forced and insincere given the short amount of time they spent together. If he said he wasn’t willing, that wouldn’t be what he truly felt.
Caught in the girl’s playful laughter, he suddenly understood her intentions—to shut him up with a single sentence.
It was a kind of disguised rejection.
As expected, there was no trace of ridicule or surprise in Chloe’s eyes. Instead, she seemed satisfied with his silent response.
Turning her gaze away, she walked towards the doorway and left a cool, soft phrase behind, "Good night, sleep well."
With the door closed, the room was quiet.
Alex chuckled lightly; the smile at the corners of his eyes contained a touch of helplessness and deep thought.

(Alex: Sigh~ the road to woo my wife is long and arduous, who will give me some advice?)
