Chapter 1299

Alexander Foster pointed to the tall man and slowly said, "He looks very much like Thirteen. If they were experimental subjects, then these strange characteristics could very likely be the aftereffects of the experiments."

Chloe Collins held the blueprint, her eyes slightly unfocused. "Liam Locke met them when he was six years old. He saw Mane York being kidnapped right before his eyes. These people frightened him."

A six-year-old child, who had been protected very well from a young age, might indeed have a mental breakdown after encountering a gruesome scene for the first time.

The images in her mind made her heart tighten with anxiety.

That night, she could not sleep. After sitting quietly for a long time, she took out paper and a pen and began to write a letter.

She wrote and erased, then threw away what she’d written and started again. It was dawn before she finally finished a complete letter.

She put it in an envelope and left it on Liam Locke’s bedside table.

Inside was her story. She had chosen her words to be as straightforward as possible, but it still took her two whole pages to finish it.

After she finished writing, she felt empty but weighed down.

She returned to her room, intending to catch up on sleep. When she opened the door and saw the cold, empty room, she automatically closed the door and turned to look at the one next door.

When she opened the door to the room next door, she glanced at the bump under the silver-gray comforter. Alexander Foster had stayed with her until late the previous night, and she didn’t ask him to leave until she started writing the letter.

He was asleep now.

Looking at the bump, the heaviness in her heart mysteriously disappeared, and she felt much lighter.

After considering for a moment, she closed the door, picked up the pillow from the sofa and tossed it aside, then lay down on the couch, her face turned toward Alexander Foster’s side.

The peacefulness and contentment she felt soon brought her into a dreamless sleep.

At noon, she woke up fully rested, opened her eyes for a moment, then closed them again. She stretched instinctively, then suddenly realized that what she was resting her hand on was warm.

The sofa had also become softer.

Feeling that something was off, she looked up, only to realize that she wasn’t lying on the couch, but on Alexander Foster’s bed.

When had she fallen asleep there?

There was still residual warmth beside her, indicating that he had gotten up not long ago.

She rubbed her eyes and sat up, just in time to see the man coming out of the bathroom, a towel in his hand, his upper body naked, and his abs catching her eye.

She stared at him blankly for a second, and then mechanically turned her face away after two seconds.

"Did you wake up? Did my shower disturb you?" Alexander Foster walked over, put his hands over her ears, and ran his fingers through her hair.

It was like he was petting a kitten.

She shook her head, her gaze avoiding: "No."

The air was filled with a warm, fresh scent that was as gentle as his voice.

Then, she heard Alexander Foster’s low laugh. It was just a single note.

By the time she turned her head, he had already put on his shirt.

Strangely, the image of the moment before was even clearer in her mind.

"I’m going to wash my face," she said before getting out of bed.

He pulled her gently back by her arm into his embrace.

After a while, he loosened his hold, looked down at her, and said, "Get used to me, and you won’t feel shy easily."

Without even raising her head, the redness in her ears deepened compared to before.

The word "get used to" seemed to carry a deeper meaning.

"I... I’m not shy." Her refutation was stiff. She added, "Master said, ’Do not look at what is improper.’

His mouth curled up even more at the corners and he ruffled her hair a bit harder, then gradually loosened his hold on her. "Go and freshen up."

She nodded, her steps resolute as she walked away.

A smug smile graced his face, his gaze filled with affection.
