Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Co-pilot Seat

Chapter 103

It was the next Monday.

Right before school let out, the homeroom teacher Yvonne Frost said from the podium, "You can check last week’s monthly exam results tonight. No matter how well you did, the results are already set, and you should focus all your energy on the next monthly exam. And don’t forget to tell your parents about the parent-teacher conference the day after tomorrow. I won’t allow any student’s parents to be absent. That’s it, the meeting is over."

As the class meeting ended, the students had mixed feelings.

Most of them were worried about the upcoming parent-teacher conference.

Yvonne Frost’s way of handling things made them uneasy.

She liked to publicly praise and criticize, not giving the students any face.

The students in this class, their parents knew each other to some extent, and no one wanted to lose face.

The literary committee member estimated her own score and turned back to Chloe Collins and said, "I think I did well on this test. I should be able to stay in the ordinary class. Chloe, how do you think you did?"

She smiled and said, "The post on the forum got bumped up again. Everyone is betting that you’ll be in the last hundred, but I’m different. I bet you’ll be in the last two hundred. I think you can be my back desk partner, so you can’t be that bad."

Chloe was speechless.

Why was everyone around her so talkative?

The phone in her desk drawer buzzed, and she calmly took it out to look.

[Robert Foster: We’re waiting outside for you.]

We?

Chloe looked at the crowded doorway, where the students were leaving one after another. She didn’t see Robert.

The next second, Robert sent her a picture.

[Robert Foster: My brother bought you some snacks, hurry up.]

In the picture, a pile of snacks was arranged in the car. Alexander Foster sat quietly, his expression bland.

Chloe thought about what had happened over the past few days. She and Alex had interacted very little, almost not at all.

He would occasionally appear in front of her, always staring straight at her, looking as if he wanted to say something but didn’t deign to say it.

She didn’t ask. He could speak if he wanted to.

Compared to this, she was more curious about when he could go on a trip so that she would have a chance to go to the basement and take another look.

[Chloe: You don’t have to wait for me.]

She didn’t like to make people wait, especially those she didn’t have a good relationship with.

Soon, her phone rang.

It was a call from Alex.

She took her time and answered it.

"Tonight’s family dinner, starts at seven."

It was a very polite tone and an announcement.

Chloe thought for a moment and agreed.

Fives minutes later, she walked out of the school gate, and her eyes scanned the area. She saw Alex’s car parked next to the tree-lined path on the right.

When she reached the back seat and opened the car door, she saw that it was full of snacks. Robert sat in the corner, looking cramped and insignificant.

Robert pointed to the front, "The front passenger seat is reserved for you, go ahead."

Chloe glanced at the man in the driver’s seat, said nothing, and got into the front passenger seat.

As she got in, she saw the watch on the seat.

Just then, Robert’s voice came from the back, "Oh, I left my watch there. Pass it to me, will you?"

Chloe handed the watch back and casually asked, "Were you sitting here just now?"

Robert was about to answer, but Alex suddenly coughed lightly, "Fasten your seatbelt."

Robert immediately lowered his head and stopped talking.

Chloe didn’t think much about it and sat quietly.

The car drove smoothly, and after a while, she leaned her head to the side and dozed off with her eyes half-closed.

She didn’t sleep long, just about fifteen minutes, and at last, she was awakened by the rustling sound inside the car.
