Chapter 34: Talks Over Dinner
(SASHA)
For the next few days, I don’t see Tyler. Life has to go on even after Father’s death. The operations haven’t been seized. There are tons of things to take care of, that’s not even counting the funeral and burial preparation. Even though I don’t see Tyler, I keep tabs on him through Miles. He’s settling in well so far.
Mother has stayed in her room for the last three days when she finally decides to come out on the fourth. She invites Tyler for lunch. Miles tells me she took him shopping. I’m glad she has Tyler’s company. He is a good listener and has this soothing energy that I’m sure must’ve been what attracted Mother to him when they first met.
I gave instructions to the house staff today to arrange dinner in my room. I want to spend some time with Tyler today. I want to touch base with him. I’ve barely seen him since father’s death and I figured it would be good if we had dinner together, just the two of us. The funeral is due tomorrow and I know Tyler will want to know what his role will be then.
Once I’m done with work, I head to the bedroom. I have to admit the surge of excitement I get when I see Tyler. It feels like forever since I last saw him. Due to the work overload, I’ve been spending most nights on the couch in Father’s study. Part of the reason is because I thought I’d let Tyler settle in the room first without feeling bugged by my presence.
Usually, I’m not this considerate. I want Tyler happy. The happier he is, the easier things will be for me.
When I get to the bedroom, I notice the shower running. Light seeps from below the bathroom door, which tells me Tyler is in the shower. I also notice the dinner cart is already here. I so much need a shower right now but I’m starving, and if I don’t eat now, the food will get cold.
Sneaking into the shower with Tyler feels like a great idea to save time, but I don’t want to be kicked in the balls. Also, I’m not sure how much I’d control myself being naked around him when he’s all wet and his skin bare. Too tempting. I don’t want to spook him. I’ll just shower later. It will be safer for both of us.
I walk over and lift one of the lids. My mouth waters when I see the chicken tikka, gratin potatoes and asparagus. It’s been days since I had a hot meal, not because the house staff didn’t try to feed me, but because I’ve been buried busy with work. I doubt it’d be easy to make calls when your mouth is stuffed with food.
I put the lid back then loosen my tie. I sit at the edge of the bed and remove my coat too. I begin to undo the first few buttons of my shirt when the shower suddenly shops. Tyler walks out minutes later with a towel wrapped around his waist. My breath hitches when I see him as desire itches through me.
He stops in his tracks the minute he sees me. "Oh, shit."
"What?"
"I didn’t know you were in here already."
I take sight of his bare chest, his glassy, milky skin and avert my gaze. The last thing I want right now is to get horny. I’ve controlled myself for too long and that is exactly what I’ll do now.
"It’s alright. I’ve seen naked men before."
"Of course." He says mockingly then proceeds to the dresser where he pulls out a pair of boxers and a T-shirt. He disappears into the bathroom and minutes later, he comes out dressed
I school my face, acting like his tanned legs don’t turn me on. I push the cart over to the small table near the window and transfer the food onto the table. There’s sparkling water for Tyler and a carafe of red wine for me.
"I hope you’re okay with having dinner in here," I say. "We haven’t spent much time together since the wedding. I thought it would be a good idea to see each other before the funeral tomorrow."
"Mmh... Your mother told me when she insisted on taking me for lunch and clothes shopping."
"Yeah, Miles told me. She loves to shop. Me and Jericho don’t. I told Miles to make sure she helped you pick a black suit for the funeral."
He smiles. "Yes, she had to buy me three."
"Yeah?"
"Yes. I hope it isn’t because she thinks I’ll be going to a lot of funerals, mine included."
"No, that’s not it. She got you three because you’ll need to look presentable when you accompany me to a dinner party. I’m glad she thought of getting three."
"Uhm..." he grits. "That doesn’t sound like my kind of thing."
"You mean suits?"
"No. Dinner parties."
"Don’t worry. All you’ll have to do is tug on my arm and look sexy." I cut into the chicken as I speak. I have no doubt that he’ll slay the part. He was sexy even when he was in the streets, starving and filthy. He’s beautiful. That’s just it. I doubt any amount of grime can dull that.
"Sexy," he repeats silently as he twists the bottle cap. The sparkling water hisses as he sips the beverage, regarding me with those beautiful, drooly eyes.
"Yes. Sexy. You know that playing arm candy is your role. You’ve known all along, no?"
He scowls and then ignores my question. "When do I get the abortion?"
The question gets me off guard that I choke on my wine. I cough, patting my chest as I gaze at him. "you’ll get the abortion, what’s the hurry?"
"What’s the hurry?" he looks at me disbelievingly then down at his belly. "What am I waiting for? I’ve told you since that I wanted to get an abortion."
"You went clothes shopping with mother." I hesitate. "Does she know you’re pregnant?"
"Yes." A flush works up in his cheeks. "I couldn’t have hid it anymore."
"You told her it’s mine?"
"No. I told her it wasn’t."
"Why?"
"She had to know the truth. I want to get that abortion and I doubt she’d like me if she knew I aborted her son’s baby."
"Okay. And what was her reaction when you told her you’re with another alpha’s child?"
"I’m not sure. I can’t tell because I couldn’t read her. She should be fine with it, right? I mean the marriage is fake." He shrugs. "I don’t matter what she thinks though. I’m not carrying this baby to term. I don’t care what she feels."
"You know she’d be in heaven if you carried this baby to term?"
"What?" he blurts. "I don’t want this baby. I’ve been very clear with you since."
"I’m just saying it’d be a good distraction for her, especially after losing father. She’d have something else to focus on aside from her grief."
He purses. "No, Sasha. I’m not carrying this child to term. That’s out of the fucking question. I won’t do everything in this world for you and your family."
"Calm down, Tyler."
