Chapter 702: Chapter 50 From Friday Night to Sunday Night_1
Zheng Qing originally planned to bring the little white cat to the small hut where the old man Ferna lived.
After all, it was the middle of the night, and a tiny cat wandering around the campus could easily get into trouble. The small wooden hut by the lake, where the old janitor lived, could be considered the safest place in the entire area.
Though deep down, he suspected that this little cat might be the changed form of Jiang Yu, but there was no hard evidence for it. Being a scholarship student who had grown a little wiser, he didn’t talk much along the journey. If the little cat indeed happened to be the Jiang family witch, it would be fine, but if it isn’t, and he ended up making a big fuss about it, that would be troublesome.
He also thought about taking the little cat back to the girls’ dormitory directly. But the girls’ dormitory was littered with all sorts of bizarre ’expulsion and defensive magic’. Zheng Qing, as a tomcat, wasn’t sure if he’d be struck by lightning if he stepped onto the grounds. Additionally, he wasn’t certain if the kitten was Jiang Yu, he wasn’t even sure if it was a female- the kitten kept its tail squeezed between its legs at all times, and the black cat felt too embarrassed to touch it with his claws.
All one can say is that the ability to seek fortune and avoid disaster is crucial.
After thinking it through, Zheng Qing came to the conclusion that leaving it at the old janitor’s hut was the safest bet. There was an old dog there. Ferna used to say the respected May enjoyed chasing the Kappas in the lake and occasionally fetching a few Red Chain snakes from the dense bushes for meals. Therefore, ensuring the safety of a small cat wouldn’t be too much trouble.
The plan was sound, but the only problem was the white kitten wasn’t cooperative with Zheng Qing’s intentions.
As it stepped only a few paces into the small grove by the lake, before it even had a chance to retract its body, the small white cat suddenly leaped off the large cat’s head onto a tree branch nearby. By the time the big black cat came to his senses, the small white cat had already disappeared into a dense network of twigs.
Returning back to his original size, Zheng Qing looked up at the dark branches, speechless for a moment, feeling a slight itch in his paws.
Where are the manners?!
He had saved her from the hands of evil, surely she could at least give a meow or two, or throw a thankful glance, couldn’t she? If she couldn’t even do that, shouldn’t she at least say goodbye before she left?!
After all, he had become her mount for half of the day!
Flattening his ears, the black cat felt his joy replaced instantly by annoyance.
There’s no way that kitten was Jiang Yu .... Perhaps it was Li Meng who stole Jiang Yu’s transformation potion and unintentionally drank it! The black cat grumbled, vehemently denying the possibility that the kind and courteous witch he knew could turn into such a cat.
Looking up at the sky, the moon was now above the not too distant eaves. The deeper the night, the quieter the surroundings. The small insects and animals that were somewhat active in the early evening had already eaten and drank their fill and began to slumber.
In what felt like only a brief moment, the surroundings had fell into deathly silence.
Feeling like he had been out for far too long, the black cat, giving up his initial plan of squatting outside the rat hole under the oak tree, took another glance at the direction the white cat went, flicked his tail, and began to mosey on back.
Perhaps because he could now talk and transform his size, this transformation into a cat seemed to be even more enjoyable than last time - more importantly, this time his ’consciousness as a human’ seemed to be much stronger, he could clearly distinguish the instincts of a cat and forcefully suppress them.
At the very least, Zheng Qing was sure he wouldn’t need to spend a whole night in the bathroom after reverting back to his human state, thoroughly washing his digestive tract and teeth.
Looking at it from these aspects, this transformation seemed to be much more satisfactory.
...
...
The identity of the kitten by the lakeside troubled Zheng Qing for a whole weekend-from Friday midnight till Saturday morning. The young scholarship student had one nightmare after another in his six-pillar bed.
He dreamt that Jiang Yu, after turning into a kitten, was caught by a group of odd people wearing pointed white hats with just their eyes visible. They took her onto a pile of firewood, took her eyes out, then burned her. Meanwhile, he turned into a gigantic cat and descended from the sky. He slapped and doused the fire, then with another slap, sent those odd people flying. But when he was about to lower his head, the small white cat kicked him into Lin Zhong Lake nearby!
"Thud!"
The young scholarship student crawled out, tumbled off the bed, flopped onto the floor.
"Did he have a nightmare?" Xiao Xiao, sitting at his desk reading his notes under the daylight, lifted his gaze and lazily asked upon hearing Zheng Qing’s scream.
Zheng Qing sat up, dazed, his body wrapped in a blanket and the hair on his back still standing upright from fear.
Although he couldn’t clearly make out what those odd people looked like, the image of the red blood flowing out from the white kitten’s pitch black eye socket was clearly imprinted in his mind. Even half a day after waking up, he was still sweating.
The dream felt so real that when Zheng Qing started to regain his senses, before he even had a chance to respond to Doctor Xiao, he immediately took out his letter paper to write to Jiang Yu. Based on some instinct, he tried to persuade Jiang Yu to abandon her bold plan and to use a safer method to find the culprit.
However, after he had folded his paper crane, he started to hesitate again.
On one hand, it seemed childish to disrupt someone’s long-considered plans because of a senseless nightmare. Especially as Zheng Qing began to wake up more and more and his consciousness began to function fully again, looking back at the letter he wrote, he found it more and more ridiculous.
On the other hand, although he and Jiang Yu were on good terms, there was still a certain distance between them.
Especially given that he had just made some progress with the Gypsy witches. If he seemed indecisive now and rumours started to spread, the resulting annoyance wouldn’t be limited to just one person - not to brag, but Zheng Qing felt that he had some ’reputation’ at the university and should be cautious about his image.
After all, he had time and again witnessed the power of mobile phones.
The words of the crowd had saved people, killed people, and ruined not just one person.
Just like that, between advising or not advising, the young scholarship student hesitated for the entire day. Even when he was on patrol Saturday night, Zheng Qing was still thinking about the matter-he even forgot to dig the rat hole under that oak tree, to look for that dressed-up big mouse-until Sunday night before his class meeting, when Xiao Xiao reminded him to consult Old Yao about the ’Transformation accident’, the young scholarship student finally came to his senses.
Indeed, compared to Jiang Yu’s situation, it seems he has quite some troubles on his own.
