Chapter 701: Chapter 49 Big Cat and Little Cat_1
The gray-black layered stone was hard and dense, and it was covered in a soft weathered layer on the outside. Perhaps because it was next to a lake and had been soaked in water vapor for a long period of time, the surface of these layered stones was a bit slippery and very easy to slip on. Further, moss had grown all about in the crevices between the stacked rocks, making these man-made mountain stones even more dangerous. Even in the daytime, few little creatures dared to scurry around on them.
Except for a little white kitten tonight.
The kitten wasn’t big, and its fluff radiated a soft feeling under the moonlight. The pupils of its eyes were covered in an aurora-yellow hue and glowed brightly in the night.
The little white kitten hadn’t yet learned how to use the claws between its footpads, it was merely relying on the friction between its paw pads and the man-made mountain stones, as it was vigorously climbing upwards.
Despite the moss and lime staining the white fluff on her belly, and her pink paws being full of black mud, it did not stop her from climbing upwards step by step.
"Hmm, this little fellow is just too cute!" The curly-haired dog smacked his lips and reached out towards the man-made mountain stones, wanting to scoop up the little kitten.
"You can feed it some oat porridge," the plump Wizard propped himself on his knees to catch his breath, then added, "Of course, that’s if it’s willing to eat..."
The reason for suddenly adding that condition was that the kitten seemed somewhat resistant to the paw the curly-haired dog stretched out towards it.
Under normal circumstances, Wizards were very good at interacting with small animals—most animals were fond of the magic energy that Wizards emitted. However, the kitten on the man-made mountain stones was a bit different. When the young Wizard standing below the stones reached his arms out, the kitten let out a sharp yelp and its fur bristled. In a flash, it leaped off from the half slope of the man-made mountain stones and landed on top of a stone platform at the very top.
Only leaving the curly-haired dog who had extended his arm standing awkwardly in the same position.
"Pfft, pfft..." The kitten clumsily turned around in a circle on the stone platform. It stared at the group of young Wizards, sneezing loudly a few times and then it tilted its head somewhat disdainfully and gave them an annoying look.
"Hahaha, you were just looked down upon by a cat!" The tall thin Wizard pointed at the curly-haired dog and scoffed, "I told you long before to spray less perfume... Look now, even a cat can’t stand your smell!"
"It sneezed because it’s getting colder out here! What does it have to do with me!" The curly-haired dog retorted, somewhat annoyed.
The tall thin Wizard shrugged his shoulders, laughed but did not speak, remaining noncommittal about his companion’s complaint.
"I must catch it today!" The curly-haired dog rolled up his sleeves, forcefully planted his wand into the mud beside the lake, and then took out a hefty law book from his pocket, flipped it open, and strongly slapped it: "... I simply can’t believe it!"
A light blue halo suddenly rose from the law book, shining brightly against the night sky, like a dazzling lamp. A few slender tendrils tentatively slithered out of the thin air, moving lazily like an octopus’s arms, as they lunged out to ensnare the creature on the man-made mountain stones.
"Miaoww!" The little white cat let out a sharp cry, arched her back, and her two little paws swung as if they were wind fire wheels, fighting back against the tendril-like things that were getting closer.
Perhaps considering the deterrence of the Wizard’s Code, or simply wanting to show off his delicate control of the binding spell, the curly-haired dog didn’t directly use the simple brute "binding net" to trap the kitten. Instead, he was murmuring an incantation and directing those tendrils to weave through the shadow of the kitten’s swinging claws trying to thoroughly bind it.
"It doesn’t want to come down, we shouldn’t try too hard." Looking at the glowing law book in the hands of the curly-haired dog, the chubby Wizard laboriously advised in an uneasy voice, "... this is a campus, if the kitten has some scary background and we hurt it, it could cause trouble..."
"Are you kidding me! What kind of background could a kitten that runs around the campus in the middle of the night possibly have..." The curly-haired dog scoffed. He turned back around, as if he was about to educate his friend, but before he could finish speaking, he froze in place, the law book he was holding tumbling to the ground with a ’clatter’.
"The law book fell!" The plump Wizard yelled out and quickly lunged forward, rapidly picking up the law book, all the while whispering, "Thank goodness, you only cast a small spell... what if you were performing a high-level spell and the law book fell, we would all be blown up by the out-of-control spell!"
The curly-haired dog froze with his hand extended, his eyes wide open, his mouth twitching as if he wanted to say something.
"Is it epilepsy?" The chubby Wizard waved his hand in front of the curly-haired dog’s eyes and turned to look at his other companion, "He looks like he’s sick, do you have any medicine... Holy shit!!"
Before the sentence could be completed, it was as if the chubby Wizard had stepped on a spring, bouncing up from his original place with a ’dong’, then drawing an unrefined arc in the air before crashing onto the ground, bottom first.
The bluestone underneath his buttocks felt extraordinarily cold as it absorbed the moisture of the night, threads of chill seeping through his billowing robe and thick layers of fat burrowing deep into his body.
But even if the cold underneath his buttocks was heavy, it was not as dense as the chill that surged from the bottom of his heart.
Behind several young wizards, a three-meter tall black giant cat was squinting, staring at the ’little wizards’ in robes in front of it with dangerous eyes.
"Oh my god..." The fat wizard groaned, tilting his head upwards to look at the giant cat - he felt that even if he stood upright, he would probably not be as tall as the forelegs of this black cat.
This was no longer a cat, but a monster!
The giant black cat didn’t have the talent for ’empathic connection’, so it didn’t know what the wizards in front of it were thinking. But this didn’t stop it from completely dominating the scene.
With a low growl in its throat, the big black cat nonchalantly pushed past the skinny wizard blocking its path and stepped rudely onto the fat wizard’s tubby belly with one paw - and surprisingly, the feeling of a cat’s paw pad pressing against human flesh was incredibly comfortable.
The fat wizard felt as though his internal organs were about to be squashed flat, but he didn’t dare to move an inch.
The black cat walked up to a mock mountain stone, tilted its head, glanced at the static curly-haired dog, sniffed, and forcefully sneezed out a clump of an unknown sticky substance all over the curly-haired dog. Looking at those sharp teeth so close to him, the dog couldn’t even protest. The fact that he managed to keep standing without collapsing was quite the show of courage.
After intimidating the patrolling young wizards, Zheng Qing finally looked up towards the little white cat sitting on top of the artificial rock.
The mock mountain stone was very high, but he did not have to raise his head to see what was at the top of the stone.
The little white cat seemed to be scared stiff by this gigantic black cat, standing rigidly in place, fluff around its neck puffing up constantly, its whole body appearing to tremble.
The giant black cat shook its whiskers, tried hard to squeeze a kind smile on its face, then raised its basin-sized paw up to the little white cat.
The little white cat was stunned for a few seconds, seemed to have somewhat recovered, and also mimicked it by raising its own small paw to meet the large paw in front of it. Honestly, its head wasn’t even as big as one of the pads on the black cat’s paw, making the ’high five’ gesture look ridiculously funny.
The giant black cat raised the corner of its mouth in satisfaction, then lowered its head towards the edge of the top of the mock mountain stone.
This time, the little white cat didn’t hesitate, it quickly ran a few steps, lightly leapt onto the black cat’s head, then wrapped its arms around its ears, firmly seating itself at the highest position.
The black cat forcefully suppressed its instinct to shake its ears, curled its tail, turned around, and leisurely disappeared deep into the school grounds.
"Thump!"
The curly-haired dog that had been stiff for a long time finally collapsed onto the ground with relief.
"Scaring someone to death without compensating...When did such a monster come to our school?" The fat wizard shivered, speaking out loud.
"It looks a lot like the beast that wreaked havoc in the freshman competition! It’s even bigger than that beast!" Another companion chimed in, adding, "When it looked at me just now, it felt as if my soul was being frozen..."
"Should we set off the alarm fireworks?"
"Are you crazy... Do you think the school’s protection array is blind and can’t see such a big monster?" Another companion growled, "We should be praying instead that the little white cat isn’t the transformed shape of some big shot..."
"...Gone mad!" The curly-haired dog grunted, and finally, wisely shut its mouth.
