Chapter 686: Chapter 34: This Could Be Considered A Confession_1

Since the conversation was already in full swing, Zheng Qing decided to lay his concerns bare:

"Does the school know about the Gypsy witches?"

"Why not do these things after class... If you skip so many classes, won’t it be more challenging to catch up?"

"Plus, how did you know there was no one in the lounge today?"

Elena reached back and gathered her burgundy ringlets with a red hair tie, revealing a fair neck and a delicate collarbone.

Then she turned around, her eyes sparkling with a playful smile at Zheng Qing, as if waiting for him to finish questioning.

As the wizard inhaled the room’s sweet fragrance, he felt reluctant to continue asking the other questions that were lingering in his mind.

Seeing that he had closed his mouth, the Gypsy witch paused for a moment before calmly explaining each question: "There is nothing that the school does not know."

With that, she stretched languidly, stretching her arms wide and tracing her fingertips across the sky: "On this island, within these grand arrays, there are very few things the school does not know... the only difference is whether they choose to intervene."

"If you have read more ancient scrolls, you will find that high-level wizards gradually become indifferent, unconcerned about trivial matters. This is not a side effect of studying magic but the influence of time. In the minds of most high-level wizards, embracing the laws and flexibly applying the rules are more effective than constantly meddling in the world."

Zheng Qing stared blankly at her, her red lips moving diligently. He had no idea what she was talking about.

Perhaps realizing that her explanation was a bit complicated, the witch paused and simplified her reasoning: "To put it simply, they are all too busy with their own things to care about us ’kids’, who are not even registered wizards."

Zheng Qing responded with a look of sudden insight.

However, shaking his head in disapproval, he said, "Negligence in small things leads to great disaster. The school’s senior wizards wouldn’t overlook such an obvious fact, would they?"

"For the senior wizards, they can hold up the sky with a simple wave of their hands. What in this world can be considered a big deal to them?" The witch sighed wistfully, her eyes staring into the distance, yearning for those lofty heights.

Zheng Qing frowned, eventually deciding to drop the topic — it was pointless for two junior wizards like them to speculate about the mindset and behavior of senior wizards. Instead, he switched to another issue and advised earnestly, "But you skip your classes too often. Given your weak foundation, skipping too many classes might make it more difficult for you to follow the curriculum later on."

Though his phrasing was tactful, his meaning was clear.

Upon hearing his advice, a look of resignation crossed Elena’s face: "Would you believe me if I said I have memorized all the textbooks?"

Zheng Qing hesitated. He didn’t dare to nod, but he didn’t dare to shake his head either. Just the textbook "Big History: World Modern History Volume" alone contained about four to five hundred thousand words spread across more than four hundred pages, not including tables, maps, and character portraits, among other supplementary material. If Elena claimed she memorized all key points, Zheng Qing would probably have nodded repeatedly.

But to memorize every page of the book?

Even Liu Fei Fei had not been so insane!

"Truth is, all of us sent here to study have memorized our textbooks. Even before the start of the term, the school arranged for professional teachers to give us three months of prep courses... we have already been through the first half of the first year’s curriculum more than once." Her tone turning melancholy, Elena continued, "But we still can’t grasp many of the topics. Even knowing the answers and the procedural requirements, we still cannot execute them."

"Do you know why we were sent to attend Jiuyou Academy? It’s because Jiuyou’s upgrade examination methods are comparatively friendly and fair to us."

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing was at a loss for words.

Pity? To the prideful, it could be more brutal than a curse. Compliments? Any praise would taste strange to a person who, despite memorizing a whole set of textbooks, still can’t fully grasp the magic skills.

Zheng Qing decided to keep quiet, turned his head and looked into the distance in the direction Elena was gazing towards, watching the shimmering lake. A few large red birds rested lazily on the water, heads tucked under wings; huge lake fish occasionally leapt several feet high with a flick of their tails, escaping from predators beneath the water; and sometimes, fast-moving shadows glided along the lakebed, some water ghosts pretending to be aquatic plants or fishmen sleepwalking in the daylight.

In silence, the two watched the distance, eyes filled with the deserted and expansive world.

After a while, Zheng Qing inhaled sharply and cleared his throat, attempting to lighten the mood by moving onto another topic: "By the way, how did you know the lounge would be empty today? You scared the hell out of me when I was trailing behind you... haha."

A few minutes of silence had allowed the witch to regain her composure.

"Because Friedman is entertaining his little cousin at the Sepulano Clubhouse on Gamma Street." Elena tilted her head to look at Zheng Qing, raised a finger, and whispered, "The Wandering Wizard told me."

"The Wandering Wizard?" Zheng Qing immediately became alert, "That old fellow is strange... not a good sort. Be careful when dealing with him. I heard he used to be a Black Wizard."

Hearing the public student’s remarks, the Gypsy witch couldn’t help but let a radiant smile creep onto her face, "Don’t worry. In Europa, we frequently dealt with Black Wizards... To be honest, the old fellow at the Wandering Bar may appear a little gloomy, but he’s actually a very shrewd businessman."

"He’s not a Black Wizard, maybe a grey one at most."

Zheng Qing thought of his own gold card and remembered how not long ago he had managed to deal with the Wandering Wizard. He unconsciously nodded in agreement with her.

"Anyway, regardless of whether or not your psychic abilities can improve, in the First University, especially in Jiuyou Academy, exam scores are still the most important." Zheng Qing redirected the conversation back to the main topic, staring seriously at the witch and adding, "I’ve noticed Liu Fei Fei’s tutoring sessions with Nicolas were quite effective. We can use their method... I have patrol duty on Saturday nights and Professor Yi’s tutoring sessions on Tuesday nights, aside from these, I can spare some time every night to help you review what you’ve learned and do homework together..."

At this point, Elena suddenly interrupted Zheng Qing’s plan, her gaze subtly shifting towards the male student, "Liu Fei Fei and Nicolas are dating. Are you suggesting that we should...?"

Her words were left unfinished.

Zheng Qing’s face was visibly turning red.
