Chapter 640: Chapter 309 Warning! Warning!! _1

For Zheng Qing, "dragon" was a term both incredibly unfamiliar yet extremely well-known.

The unfamiliarity lay in the fact that, for Zheng Qing, this creature had always belonged to the realm of ’legends’.

The essence of a legendary scaled creature, the zodiacal representation of the Chen hours, an omen and symbol of fortune in folklore - in Zheng Qing’s imagination, this divine beast was supposed to have a deer’s antlers, camel’s head, cow’s ears, snake’s neck, fish’s scales, eagle’s claws, and possessed the ability to bask in the clouds and mist, its weather astonishing and capable of appearing or disappearing at will; when it ascended, it soared amidst the cosmos, when hidden, it lurked within the waves.

In short, the term "dragon" contained too many spiritual implications for every countryman.

On the other hand, his familiarity came from the fact that ever since he got in touch with the wizarding world, Zheng Qing had read books and papers on dragons in the library several times. He had also heard many times from classmates, friends, and even professors about this creature.

For instance, Zhang Ji Xin had once bragged to his teammates about the story of him hunting the Tanggula Ice Chilong with his brothers during summer vacation. Lin Guo had drafted a thick notebook detailing the characteristics, strengths, and habits of various dragon beasts. This young wizard had even learned to roast swallows, reputedly a dragon’s favorite food.

Therefore, when Zheng Qing was confronted by a ferocious giant dragon, his first reaction was not to run away but to contemplate whether someone had eaten roasted swallows, thereby attracting this big guy to come out.

After all, every reference and work had made it very clear that dragons were extremely lazy creatures, only spurred into action by either delicious food or treasure.

"Not a dragon from our world... It should be a demon beast with dragon lineage."

Nanjian was the first to recover, analysing with a slightly trembling voice: "Although its demonic reaction is very weak, there’s no doubt that this dragon has been corrupted by demonic energy... The yellow in its eyes is not pure gold, but an orangish-yellow with a hint of blood."

"Stay quiet, everyone. Don’t provoke it." Matthew quietly added.

Zheng Qing stood in front of Elena, silently gazing up at the beast above.

As the saying goes, the wind follows the tiger and clouds the dragon. It implies that when a dragon appears, the sky inevitably fills up with clouds. Perhaps this old saying worked as with the emergence of this giant dragon, the sky over the whole hunting ground had suddenly become much darker. The gray rain clouds slowly piled up from the horizon, and buried within the layers of clouds, the distant roars of thunder could faintly be heard.

However, this sudden change in weather was seemingly insignificant when pitted against the enormous dragon that was before Zheng Qing.

It was indeed a colossal monster.

Its body was about a mile long, covered in dark yellow scales. A few strands of messy fiery-red beard protruded from its narrow cheeks. On each side of its mouth were irregular rows of tusks, with a constant drip of sour saliva.

Behind its head rose four twisted horns, and a mane that resembled flames flickered down its back to the tip of its tail. A pair of heavy bat wings drooped on either side, with sharp claws embedded into the scattered stones on the hillside, leaving deep gouges in the grass. Its long and powerful tail extended down the hill, looking like a low earthen yellow ridge.

Judging from its peculiar form, it could be clearly deduced that this dragon did not belong to the eastern ’Divine Dragon’ species, nor the western ’Giant Dragon’ species, but leaned more towards a unique dragon beast under the classification of ’Dragon - Winged’.

This kind of dragon beast was often found in some independent small worlds - according to wizards exploring these new worlds, almost each world had its own unique dragon species with varying strengths.

However, for the young wizards on site, even the weakest dragon beast was still a dragon species, not something they, barely half a year into the academy, could deal with. Zheng Qing even wondered whether the spells and talismans in his pouch could pierce through this monster’s thick scale armour.

"Huff..."

Accompanied by heavy breathing, the dragon in front of them sporadically spewed out strands of gold-red sparks from its nostrils. Its giant eyeballs rotated, its gaze slowly sliding over the young wizards, finally resting on the public-funded student from Jiuyou Academy.

Zheng Qing’s heart skipped a beat.

He didn’t have time to regain his composure before a horrifying roar sounded behind them, breaking the oppressive restraints of the dragon might. Soon after, a tall figure slowly emerged from the shadows of the trees, striding casually in front of the young wizards.

It was the ’Black Tiger Demon’.

This left everyone both startled and perplexed.

They were startled because with a ’Great Demon’ capable of dealing with hundreds of demons blocking their way, it seemed they might just escape with their lives.

They were perplexed because no one could understand the behavioural logic of this Tiger Demon. Whether it was killing demons or not eating wizards, it seemed extremely strange in everyone’s eyes - perhaps this was the very meaning behind ’any abnormality implies the presence of something abnormal’?

The giant dragon slightly dropped its eyelids, taking a quick look at the big black tiger in front of it.

For the young wizards, a two-meter tall tiger could certainly be considered a giant beast. However, for a dragon several hundred meters long and dozens of meters tall at its shoulder, whether it was those wizards or this tiger, both were like ants in comparison, there was no difference.

Just that the black tiger’s roar had annoyed it a bit, so the dragon slowly raised its head, opened its mouth slowly as though preparing a major spell to cleanse the bleak world in front of it.

The black tiger did not confront it with bared teeth and claws.

Instead, it simply raised a paw, pointing to the ever-thickening clouds in the sky.

The giant dragon shook its head, glanced at a few small bugs on the ground, as if realizing something, also raised its head to look at the sky.

Based on their movements, all the young wizards in the area simultaneously raised their heads to look at the thunderous sky.

"That’s not thunder!" Elena suddenly shouted, breaking the silence.

"Not thunder?" Unable to contain his curiosity, Zheng Qing focused his attention, listening carefully.

Indeed, upon closer examination, the rumbling thunder gradually changed, seeming more like someone screaming into a megaphone from the skies.

Gradually, the ’thunder’ became increasingly close, the sky darker, and the dark red clouds filled the horizon, giving everyone an apocalyptic feeling.

Gradually, the noise of the ’thunder’ became clearer.

"Warning..."

"Warning!!"

"Unmarked high-intensity demon detected in the hunting ground!"

"Unmarked ultra-high-intensity demon detected in the hunting ground!!"

"Cease competition immediately!"

"Cease competition immediately!!"

"Initiate emergency contingency plan!"

"Hunters on site, please follow the instructions of the staff and exit through the safety passage..."

Along with the deafening warnings erupting from the sky, dozens of dark silhouettes suddenly appeared in the center of the hunting ground. Among them, a tall, golden-haired, blue-eyed male wizard was someone Zheng Qing recognized very well.

It was his admissions interviewer, Assistant Thomas.
