Chapter 630: Chapter 299 Tiger’s Might_1

Black crows circled in mid-air, cawing and staring at the coveted piece of flesh in the center of the demon horde with their gleaming, greedy eyes.

But they dared not land.

Just moments ago, their vulture companions who had landed first were torn apart by the savage beasts on the ground, thrown into the crimson magic flame, and turned into ashes.

Although the crimson fire had now extinguished, the number of demons encircling it hadn’t decreased. Instead, it had grown, making it hard for these ’birds of unknown origin’ to decide whether to advance or retreat.

Of course, a large number of demons on the ground does not mean they can evenly divide the human flesh with ease.

After all, there were more beasts than there was meat, and disagreements were inevitable because these demons came from a variety of tribes.

For instance, friction occurred frequently between the most numerous serpent demon group and the strongest wolf demon group. It was either a large wolf crushing a small serpent’s spine or a large serpent swallowing a lone wolflet.

Then there were the monkey demons, who loved to prance around in the wildlands with their oversized clubs, playfully chasing the pig demons and bashing them on the butt. They chuckled as they watched the pigs sprint for life, serenaded by their frightened squeals.

Of course, the most numerous were those scattered demons, like the Stone Yao, Water Demon, Tree Yao, and more. With no powerful tribe as back-up, they could only keep an eye out on each other, forming loose alliances. They squeezed anxiously amongst the major demon groups and greedily watched the young wizard. Even the smallest sign of movement would scatter this shaky group like birds and beasts.

"No matter what..."

"These monsters do have a wide variety of species."

Zheng Qing studied the surrounding demons. He originally wanted to count their numbers but quickly gave up the struggle: "...In my current situation, I don’t think it makes much difference to me whether there are a hundred or two hundred."

He squinted, clutching the talisman paper in his hand, ready to self-destruct along with the charging demons at any moment.

But contrary to Zheng Qing’s expectation.

The wild demons around him didn’t seem to be in a hurry to feast on him. They didn’t crowd around him, but grouped themselves according to their races and strengths into distinct and irregular packs.

While the different groups watched each other suspiciously and were eager to attack, their eagerness seemed not to be directed towards Zheng Qing, but towards the other demon groups.

Zheng Qing deeply inhaled, pondering, "So, I haven’t been torn to pieces yet... because they’re in the middle of a negotiation over their spoils?"

A sharp pain, hot as fire, seared through his nose and throat, traveling down his airway and spreading into his lungs. He felt as if he had inhaled a mouthful of sand.

The young wizard couldn’t help but cough violently.

The abnormal sounds of the ’food’ immediately drew the attention of the demon mob. White wolf demons, oversized monkey demons, chubby pig demons, and many more turned their greedy and ferocious eyes upon Zheng Qing simultaneously. The flickering, countless blood-red eyes were petrifying.

Without hesitation, Zheng Qing drew his flowing fire talisman.

But before he could even unfold the talisman, just the mere touch of his spirit to the talisman paper triggered a sudden, intense headache that caused the young wizard to fall back onto the ground.

"Damn it!"

Clutching his head, Zheng Qing rolled on the ground, giving up the struggle after a few turns. He sprawled out on the ground, seemingly devoid of strength, while he muttered, "If I am going to die anyway... I might as well die comfortably."

He wondered whether the feeling of a demon biting him would hurt more than his headache. The young wizard blankly stared at the slightly yellow sky above, lost in thought.

For a moment, he missed the transformative potion he had thrown into the pond. If he could drink that potion now, it might not only alleviate his headache but perhaps even help him shake off the demons. After all, everyone knew that demons preferred hunting wizards, and most times, they would ignore common small animals.

However, this thought flickered and disappeared from his mind almost immediately.

He did not regret giving the cunning water demon a dose of the expensive poison. Knowing it killed Andrew, it was only natural for it to pay the corresponding price. After all, despite everything, Zheng Qing did belong to the same camp as the young man from the Taylor family.

"I hear that after strenuous exercise, acid forms in the muscles..."

"So, in other words, my flesh is sour now... Sour enough to kill these beasts..."

"But then again, the sourness... does seem to stimulate the appetite a bit..."

"Such a headache..."

"After all, my thin body probably only has enough meat to floss one Wild Demon’s teeth."

"Wonder who will be lucky enough to sink their teeth into this fine skin and flesh."

As Zheng Qing pondered, a sense of defiance arose. As the headache subsided a bit, he immediately pulled out a talisman paper, trying to unfurl it once more. This time, however, luck wasn’t on his side.

The strong headache, several times more intense than before, resulted in the young wizard fainting uncontrollably before he even had a chance to groan.

Time passed.

When Zheng Qing opened his eyes again, the sky above him was still that lifeless dark yellow.

Just like his mood.

"Am I dead..."

The young wizard painstakingly reached for the grey cloth bag at his waist. His fingertips brushed against a talisman paper, causing him to shiver involuntarily.

"Hehe... Seems like I’m still alive."

He blinked groggily, struggling to get up. All of a sudden, a heavy breathing echoed around him. Following that, an overpowering smell of blood filled his nose.

Zheng Qing instantly froze.

"I can’t be this unlucky... Do I really have to experience being chewed up by a demon while wide awake..."

"Damn heavens..."

After a silent wail, he steeled his heart, turned his head, and decided to find out whose belly his ’wonderful skin bag’ would end up in.

A pair of golden-red eyes stared back at him from merely a foot away.

It was the black Tiger Demon.

"G-greetings, Brother Tiger..."

Zheng Qing forced a smile onto his face, trying to appear as friendly as possible, "Actually, I have a black cat living inside my heart... We are all from the same cat family, a family from a thousand years ago... So, why don’t we have a little chat? How about we try being vegetarians today?"

The Tiger Demon silently watched him, sticking out its tongue to lick its lips.

Only then did Zheng Qing notice the fresh crimson blood splattered all over the Tiger Demon’s mouth, head, and body.

The young wizard silently swallowed, ceasing his babbling.

Fortunately, perhaps because it had just eaten, the Tiger Demon didn’t immediately attack Zheng Qing. Instead, it stretched lazily and plonked down not far from him, idly batting a round object around with its sizeable paw, as if it were a glass ball.

Zheng Qing blinked.

He soon recognized the object as the head of the Monkey Demon.

The young wizard took a sharp intake of breath, immediately closing his eyes, pretending he didn’t see the horrifying scene.
