Chapter 296: Chapter 220: Awaken_1

Perhaps due to the stimulation of nightmares, Zheng Qing’s imagination in his childhood was strangely rich.

For example, he once held a firm belief that toys were alive.

Every time he stayed alone in a room, he would pretend to sleep. With his eyes half-closed, he would sneak peeks at the toy figures on his desk, hoping to catch them playing when he was not looking.

Now, as a university student, he noticed a certain decline in his imagination.

The statues in the square were alive - they strutted proudly around the empty space every night; the murals in the corridor were alive - they unreservedly engaged fresh students in heated discussions about touchy subjects such as ’the best wax for preventing decolourization’ or ’the principle of using egg whites to repair cracked paintings’.

Even the university itself was alive—the animated teaching building, the lively small garden, the spirited long corridor, and the imposing, unending walls. As such, for a while, Zheng Qing became hyper-anxiety-stricken every night he was about to go to bed, dreading that the magical school would transform into a monster and devour everyone in their sleep.

Time and again, he dreamt of himself falling into an endless abyss.

An endless descent.

Without a bottom in sight.

"A hospital is a place for patients to rest!"

"Absolutely no noise or roughhousing is permitted!"

"You two not only ran around in the hallway making a ruckus but also created a loud disturbance!"

The tall head nurse, with a stern expression, glaring at the two little figures standing in front of her, scolded them in a low voice, "Do you understand your mistake?"

"Yes, we do." Lin Guo hung his head, realistically accepting the criticism, "We got carried away. We couldn’t help ourselves..."

"And the... situation was urgent," Li Meng, with a pout, desperately struggled to find the right words. In the end, she simply sulked, "We just wanted to find the doctor as quickly as possible."

Mrs. Bella—namely, the head nurse of the university hospital—looked at the two tiny wizards with some residual anger. She regretted being soft-hearted and allowing them to stay in the hospital at non-visiting hours.

"They’re just kids, try not to be so serious..." Old Yao grinned while going soft on them, "If their actions disturb the tranquillity of the hospital, let’s penalize them by having them help out as orderlies for the next month."

Li Meng’s eyes widened instantly. Her eyes soon turned red from holding back her tears, and her little nose twitched. She wore an expression of being on the verge of bursting into tears any moment.

Even though Mrs. Bella wasn’t easily swayed by a young girl’s tears, she wasn’t angry anymore.

"They don’t have to be orderlies..." she muttered, "If these two kids come to the hospital, who knows who would actually have to take care of whom!"

"We are university students now," Li Meng abruptly turned cheerful, "not kids... we can take care of ourselves."

Everyone in the room burst into laughter.

Jiang Yu stood behind Old Yao, with his head low and one hand supporting his forehead, trying his best to stay inconspicuous.

Zheng Qing was lying on the hospital bed. Although he noticed the commotion at the door, he didn’t pay too much attention.

He had just woken up from his coma and was covered in talisman papers by a long-faced doctor.

The doctor was wearing a long white coat with a horse emblem on his chest. For convenience, let’s call him Doctor Ma.

Doctor Ma’s face was long, and his eyes looked swollen, which gave him a perpetually tired look—it could also be due to the fact he wasworking late-night shifts.

Zheng Qing’s gaze quickly moved from the doctor to the talisman papers on his own body.

As a renowned student in the Talisman class, he was quite interested in the talisman papers the doctor was placing on him.

The circular talisman paper on his chest, filled with many runic inscriptions like ’Rejuvenation Talisman,’ ’Minor Thunder Strike Talisman,’ ’Multi-functional Defibrillation Talisman’ and so on, was presumably for heart support.

Zheng took great care not to agitate the faint electrical threads flickering intermittently on the ’Minor Thunder Strike Talisman.’ He strived to keep his breathing and heartbeat steady, sternly eliminating any chances that might activate this talisman.

He couldn’t recognize the talisman on the rectangular papers on his wrists, but he deduced from the runes that these two papers must belong to the Rejuvenation Talisman. They were pasted on the Sun lines of his palms and ceaselessly stimulated his meridian channels, making him feel warm all over.

However, that comfortable sensation didn’t last long.

Doctor Ma with the swollen eyes bent his fingers, prodding and pinching Zheng’s body hither and tither. He even took out a few thin silver needles from a small box beside him and stuck them into Zheng’s body.

"Does it hurt here?"

Zheng shook his head decisively.

"What about here...do you feel any discomfort or numbness?"

Zheng continued shaking his head.

"Is there any part of your body that feels unwell?" Doctor Ma finally stopped poking, asking gently.

Zheng squirmed uncomfortably.

"I feel perfectly healthy." He looked sincerely at the doctor, pointed at the colourful talisman papers attached to his body, and said softly, "If you remove these things, I can do a headstand in the corner for you to see!"

"A wizard, doing a headstand!" Old Yao scolded humorously, "Just stay quiet for the night. We’ll discuss your discharge tomorrow."

Zheng opened and closed his mouth dejectedly.

At times like these, reasoning with these ’adults’ was futile.

Soon, Doctor Ma and Old Yao went off to a corner to discuss Zheng Qing’s condition.

Lady Bella arrived at the young student’s bedside, clutching her law book and maintaining a stern expression.

Jiang Yu, followed by the two little ones, stood worriedly behind the head nurse looking at the young wizard lying on the bed.

"Relax," Mrs. Bella murmured as she opened her law book, "Don’t be tense."

A blue halo flowed out from her law book onto Zheng Qing.

Mrs. Bella lifted up her eyelids to glance at the patient, "...deep breaths."

Zheng Qing drew a deep breath.

Then he felt light, and his body floated into the air.

"You two push him!" Mrs. Bella adjusted the airborne Zheng Qing and nodded towards the two dazed university students, "Just like this...slowly...don’t hit the wall...stop when you get to the public ward on the first floor!"

The two kids immediately rubbed their hands together in anticipation, cheerfully accepting this task.

Zheng Qing looked anxiously at the two clumsy kids, convinced he would be pushed into a wall.

"Can we continue staying here?" Jiang Yu asked the head nurse warily. "If it’s about the expenses, I can cover the cost on his behalf."

Zheng Qing immediately displayed an appreciative yet uneasy expression.

Before he could think of a way to refuse, Mrs. Bella turned down Jiang Yu’s request.

"Now that he’s awake, he shouldn’t occupy this precious treatment room!" Shouting commands, the plump head nurse declared, "The Starry Sky Institute had a brawl today. Someone cast a spell causing octopus legs to sprout from dozens of people’s heads... even if we summed up the treatment rooms of all four institutes, it wouldn’t be enough for them to wreak havoc in!"

Listening to the head nurse’s complaints, Zheng Qing shuddered and congratulated himself for not entering the examination hall of the Starry Sky Institute.
