Chapter 1199: Chapter 261 After School
Assistant Hilda was especially infuriated now.
It wasn’t the two young wizards bleeding from their brawl in front of her that infuriated her, because she knew that putting Jiuyou Academy and Alpha Academy students together in class would inevitably lead to such a situation.
What angered her was that the school, fully aware of this possibility, had refused to open up the vacant Hunting Ground as a practice classroom due to a minor funding issue and some stubborn old men’s disdain for practical lessons, ultimately leading to the accident at hand.
It was like during a fire, residents with wells refused to let firefighters draw water from their wells to put out the fire.
"It’s simply murder!" The assistant, with a face full of copper rings and iron nails, trembled with rage. He was complaining about the school’s policy and also describing the accident that had just happened.
Nicholas, though collapsed weakly on the grass, still glared menacingly at the white-robed one not far from him, his low growls making the threatening intent clear to everyone.
"He’s attempting murder, sir!" The Alpha Academy students were excitedly united, with several tall white-robed ones at the front of the crowd, resting their hands on their Law Books, unabashedly displaying their retaliatory expressions.
"It was your guy who had the loose lips!" Zhang Ji Xin, leading the male wizards of Astronomy Class 08-1, fearlessly met them head-on, "Everyone knows how unassuming Nicholas’s character is!"
"Yeah, unassuming enough to repeat a year twice, unassuming enough to declare in front of the reflection wall that he’ll leave his name in history, unassuming enough to accept an interview with the Beta Town Post, and let the whole school know about it!" The Alpha side was never short of sharp-tongued characters: "First University couldn’t find a more unassuming student than him!"
Without another word, Zhang Ji Xin swung his fists, ready to dive into the fray.
Suddenly, dozens of thick vines emerged from the void, bundling up the excited Red-faced Male Wizard and several equally agitated white-robed wizards into dumplings—Assistant Hilda absolutely would not allow these young wizards to brawl in front of her.
"Quiet!"
Hilda added spells like ’Intimidation’ and ’Amplification’ to her voice, the low sound waves echoing within dozens of meters, completely suppressing the clamor raised by the red-robed and white-robed ones: "Any behavior that disrupts classroom order will result in a deduction of three conduct credits!"
The dual suppression, both physical and mental, quickly restored order in the classroom.
"By Merlin Above, can’t you behave for just one day?" Lady Bella, who had rushed to the scene, couldn’t help but press her forehead upon seeing the spectacle: "I’ve used up more Bai Xian this month than the entire last year!"
"How is it?" Hilda calmed the students on both sides and then bent down to look at Lady Bella, who was treating the Alpha Academy student. He was asking about the Alpha student’s condition.
The assistant nurse working with Lady Bella seemed very optimistic: "Great... the person is still alive."
Compared to her slightly playful response, Lady Bella’s answer was clearer.
"If you hadn’t intervened in time, he probably would have wanted to tear this poor guy’s tongue out." Lady Bella said with empathy: "Has the situation between the two sides gotten this serious?"
She wasn’t being alarmist; even Zheng Qing could see that, within just a few seconds, the Alpha student’s mouth corner had been torn open—a description of ’ripping the mouth’ couldn’t be more appropriate.
Just looking at it made one’s face hurt.
Zheng Qing clicked his tongue in admiration, making a ’tsk tsk’ sound.
"What, you’re happy because no trouble came your way?" Hilda squinted at Zheng Qing, her eyebrows raised high, angrily asking a question. The young cost student spread his hands innocently, with a puzzled expression.
"I didn’t do anything?!"
The teaching assistant didn’t intend to answer the state-funded student’s inner confusion.
He stooped down, looked at Nicholas with a serious expression, and asked,
"Why did you do it?"
Nicholas clenched his teeth, his cheek muscles twitching, but he remained silent.
Liu Fei Fei stood not far behind him, her eyes brimming with tears, her hands tightly clasped in front of her chest, while several witches huddled around her, whispering words of comfort.
Until the practice class ended, Nicholas never answered that question. And the mouth of the Alpha student had a thick layer of Bai Xian smeared over it by Lady Bella, who strictly prohibited him from speaking. So nobody knew what exactly had been said during their conflict.
But this did not prevent the warlocks from Astronomy Class 08-1 from viewing Nicholas as a hero. As soon as the class ended, they all gathered around him,
"Nicely done! I’ve wanted to tear those hypocrites’ mouths apart for a long time!"
"Let me know before you hit someone next time; an extra set of fists could flatten another Alpha nose."
"Have you finished the Alchemy homework? I could lend you mine to check against yours!"
Nicholas paid no mind to these frothy displays of friendliness around him and, with Liu Fei Fei’s support, staggered away from Green Valley.
"He should’ve seized the opportunity to denounce those hypocrites with everyone else," Xin Fat Man commented. "At least then he wouldn’t have been isolated by his own people."
"Even if he doesn’t speak up, he won’t be isolated anymore," Xiao Xiao observed more profoundly than Fat Man. "He’s already proven himself through his actions."
Zheng Qing didn’t join in the lively discussion amongst his peers, feeling somehow uneasy for reasons unknown to him. At a fork in the road leading away from Green Valley, he waved goodbye to his companions.
"What are you going to Atlas Academy for?" Fat Man asked, curious upon hearing Zheng Qing’s plans.
"A private matter," the young state-funded student replied vaguely, simply adding, "Just a little private matter."
He absolutely couldn’t tell his companions that he was going to Atlas to fulfill promises and offer incense to clay and wood gods—he’d be ridiculed for an entire term. According to conventional wisdom, it was believed that Jiuyou Academy’s people should find solace in their textbooks and homework.
"I think your ’private matter’ is right behind you," Fat Man hinted, nudging his chin backward.
Following his gesture, Zheng Qing looked back and to his surprise, saw two witches walking side by side.
It was Jiang Yu and Elena.
Li Meng, with her backpack, was hopping and skipping about ten paces ahead of the two witches, occasionally diving into bushes trying to catch the poking heads of double-tailed squirrels. These freshly grown double-tailed squirrels had beautiful orange-yellow fur, giving them a warm and soft appearance.
"What does that have to do with me?!" The young state-funded student’s gaze stung as if bitten, and he promptly retracted it, stammering out a reply to Fat Man. Then he fled in the laughter of his companions.
Even as he offered incense to Taishang Laojun, he kept wondering what those two witches might be talking about.
