Chapter 21: Ex Comeback.
Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Ex Comeback.
Sebastian stood fully and was staring into the eyes of his ex, Nadia.
He faked a smile, not giving away any of his thoughts. "Nadia, it’s been a while. What brings you here?" his tone was low with a slight trace of coldness.
Nadia smiled, her gaze pierced at him. "I’ve missed you. I just got back from New York and heard about this Gala and I thought to stop by and say congrats."
Sebastian crossed his arms. "Is that the real reason you’re here? Or is there something else you want?"
Nadia let out a smug grin. "I’m sorry about the way I left, I shouldn’t have done that. I want us back!."
Just then, Eleanor approached Sebastian and clocked her arms around his.
"Sebastian who’s she?" Nadia asked with intense curiosity.
"Well," Eleanor interrupted. "I’m his partner."
Nadia couldn’t stand what Eleanor just said. "What? No, that can’t be. Sebastian that I know would not settle for anything less." She said firmly, grabbing Sebastian’s hands.
Eleanor grinned at Nadia and moved closer towards her. "Whatever you guys had are in the past now. You no longer have a space in his life. I’m his fiancee now." She explained, as the whole hall fell silent.
"Sebastian, what’s she talking about?" Nadia asked, flipping her hair. "Tell her about me!"
All eyes were drawn to Sebastian, waiting for some kind of confirmation but he remained silent for a while before speaking up.
"I’m sorry Nadia, I’ve moved on with my life, and I think you should do so." He said as he let go of her hands.
Nadia wanted to push further, but calmed down when she noticed the flurry of cameras and tons of reporters gathered around. She didn’t want to appear in the media, at least not with a headline that could tarnish her whole image.
Later on, as the party went in in full swing, Eleanor was socializing and mingling as if she was used to these kinds of scenes.
Meanwhile, Nadia watched Sebastian all night from a distance, noticing how his eyes never stayed off Eleanor as she talked to different people.
She couldn’t seem to understand how Sebastian could bring such a woman as his date.
The event was over and all the guests were leaving the hall room one by one. Sebastian led Eleanor out as he dialed his driver’s number to come pick them up.
Soon, the driver arrived and they hopped in.
The drive back to the Villa was a silent one. Sebastian sensed how quiet Eleanor had been, and figured that maybe she needed an explanation from him about Nadia.
"About Nadia," he started. "Fine! We dated back then and we loved each other. But we broke up later after I caught her having an affair with her coursemate." Sebastian explained.
Eleanor titled her head up, as if she had been waiting for this.
"And why did she come back now?" She found herself asking.
"I do not know. She left for the States back then. Maybe she’s back for good now. But the main thing is that I’m not longer interested in her."
There seemed to be a relief in the air. In as much as Eleanor defended herself in front of Nadia, she knew quite well that she’s no match with her.
Nadia was from a rich and well-known family, but she’s only a low-life debtor who is tied up in a loveless marriage with a husband who she knows nothing about.
After few hours, they arrived at the Villa. Eleanor scrambled out of the car immediately they pulled at the entrance and hurried to her room.
As she got to her room, she took her shoes and jewelries and walked over to the balcony, staring at the fully lit moon shining down the beach. She remembered what Nadia had told her.
’Sebastian that I know wouldn’t settle for anything less’ Nadia spat those words at her face.
She pulled off her clothes and headed to the bathroom. She needed a cold shower to calm her nerves. When she came out from the bathroom, toweling her hair dry, she froze in horror.
Sebastian was standing in her room.
She quickly wrapped the towel around her whole body, as if it would stop his gaze.
"Sebastian, what are you doing here?" She asked, her voice soft.
"No, call me Sebby from now on." He raised an eyebrow. "I noticed you weren’t in a good mood earlier and I decided to come check up on you." He explained, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Nadia and I are in the past now." Sebastian said as he walked close to Eleanor, who stood motionless like a lamb ready to be sacrificed.
He moved closer until they were at a slightly uncomfortable distance. Not uncomfortable enough for Eleanor to take a step back, but not comfortable enough for her to feel confident.
Regardless, she stayed put as Sebastian pressed his lips against hers, kissing her.
Eleanor wanted to protest, but found herself lost in Sebastian’s touch and his strong cologne scent.
Just then Sebastian’s phone rang, causing them to break apart immediately.
"Eleanor, you need to take over now," he said firmly. "Liam’s business is in your hands now and if you don’t take charge, everything will fall apart."
"I...I don’t know if I can do this," she said, her voice shaking.
"You must do everything to save and protect everything he has built." Sebastian’s voice echoed in.
Eleanor took a deep breath, "Okay." She said simply.
"Goodnight Eleanor." Sebastian said and left her room immediately.
Eleanor slumped on her bed, still trying to process what had just happened. She didn’t understand why she gave in easily to Sebastian’s kiss as if she had been waiting for it.
All event that had happened played pitifully in her head, tormenting her and making it more difficult to sleep.
From her loveless marriage to her billionaire husband who’s a murder suspect. And now, she seemed to be developing feelings for Sebastian.
