"You sure you don’t need us?" Barton asked again, worriedly looking at her, his hands deep in his pockets.

Naomi was standing there, a smile on her face with Axle by her side.

"No, It’s okay... I’ll be fine."

"Remember. Just a mind-link away." Daniel chipped in, reminding her.

"It’s just a meeting, not like I’m about to fight a war. I’ll. Be. Fine. The meeting will go well."

"I hope so." Barton mumbled. "Anyway, I have to help mum with shopping for the things we need for tomorrow’s ceremony."

With that, he turned away to leave. Daniel and Naomi locked gazes for sometime before he finally turned and left in Barton’s direction.

’You ready?’ Axle calmly asked as Naomi sighed for the nth time, still at the door.

She suddenly smiled again as she grabbed the door knob.

’Yeah.’

As she pushed the door open, she noticed the silent murmurs in the room ceased, and she froze as Ten pairs of eyes stared at her.

Gulping a mouthful of air, she pursed her lips and squeeze her fists, not letting them see the vunerable side of her and use it to their advantage.

"Where’s the Alpha?" Elder Carlos asked, looking behind her only to see the other Kitsune who returned their curious glares with a cool look.

"He will be absent from the meeting. It will just be us." As she came in with Axle, the door shutting with a resounding echo behind them, It sent chills up their spine.

Naomi sat down on the chair and Axle positioned herself behind the chair as all the elders sat up on their seats with apprehensive looks.

Ignoring them, she leaned forward, crossing her arms on the table with raised brows.

"Alright... Let’s begin."

There was a knock on the door when Daniel stepped out of the shower, having returned from the training grounds and needed to wash up.

Wiping his hair, he opened the door with the other hand, only to see Axle standing there with an apprehensive expression on her face.

His eyes darkened.

"What happened?"

"She... Y- Your highness. She... " No words could form, yet her lips shook terribly as she forced herself to say something.

Daniel tried contacting Naomi through the mind link, but she had shut him out.

What?!

He skidded past Axle and was already on his way to the office when she spoke up.

"The Elders agreed to concede to the ceremony on one condition... "

Daniel froze, and the two turned simultaneously as he regarded her with a probing gaze.

Files flew to the floor, followed by a laptop before Daniel fell to the seat facing hers. Naomi wasn’t even shaken by his tantrums and only sat rigid without moving, staring into space.

"Daniel... " Aunt Marcy soothingly called in worry.

"They want her dead." Daniel spat out like there was a bad taste lingering at the tip of his tongue.

"It’s the only way. I have no choice." Naomi calmly said, but there an edge to her voice.

"Naomi!" He growled. "They want you to fight a default, without using your powers... "

"It’s a suicide mission." Barton agreed, folding his arms.

When a werewolf turns a human to one of them, their chances of turning into hybrids perfectly are quite slim. Most times, the human genes are unable to accept werewolf genes, thus destroying the mentality of the human, turning them into a mindless default who would kill anything in their way without thinking. They were like zombies who moved much faster than werewolves even.

They were rough, wild and Dark Risers was popular for actually caging some of them.

To prove her undying loyalty and unwavering strength, they were going to release a default into the kindergarten school in the pack, and Naomi’s task was to make sure no child got hurt and kill the default.

"I know what you’re thinking." Naomi suddenly spoke up on seeing the look in his eyes. "But you can’t just cancel it. If this is what it takes to gain their trust, then I’ll do it."

"F**k their trust!!!" He growled. "Can’t you see through their impossible task? They want you dead!"

"Daniel..." Aunt Marcy called pleadingly. "You really have no option. It’s either that, or you could forget about the ceremony."

Crack!

The side of the table where he had his grip on suddenly broke before he got up with his blood stained hand.

"There has to be another way." Daniel whispered, but the look on their faces showed that there really wasn’t.

"Daniel just trust me."

"Trust you?" Daniel snapped at her with cold eyes. "You said the same thing before I let you handle this meeting alone. They sent you on a suicide mission, and you obliged. Do you understand that I can’t bear to loose you again?"

"You won’t." She coldly said, feeling her heart clench when she realized she wasn’t able to convince him to trust her. "Don’t make this sound impossible. Believe in me Daniel... I CAN do this."

"I may be able to kill the default, but it’s impossible to not loose a child while you’re at it. Almost every couple in Dark Risers’s got a kid there, and the elders knew exactly what they were doing when they f**king asked you to do this. If you loose a child, it’s over."

"I’ll be careful... "

"Naomi.. don’t you get it," He growled at her, failing to see the fear that rose in her eyes when he did. "You can’t do it. You’ll die half way through, the default will kill every single child there, and guess what’s going to happen next?? Can you not guess, or do you have a clear picture of what’s going to happen already!"

There was silence until he finally calmed down, the glaciers in his eyes melting away when he saw the fear and dread he had instilled in her.

"Naomi... "

She backed away when he tried to reach out to her.

"I guess this is me being stupid because I’m doing every single thing possible to be your Luna." With that, she left the office, brushing hard against him as she exited the office.

Daniel turned to meet everyone’s glares, especially Axle’s before she went after Naomi.

"She just asked you to trust her. The least you could do was oblige." Aunt Marcy said.
