Chapter 98: The Curator’s Calling

Carter smiled and had a seat beside the terrified Emma. "Now take a deep breath and slowly let it out, young lady. I need to speak to you about a few things."

Before Carter could say anything, in walked Daniel and Hyden. Hyden was all smiles. "Good afternoon Mr. Carter, glad you came down. Are you here to visit Patrick?"

"I’ll see them in a little bit, but right now I need to speak to Emma." Hyden took the bait and went over and sat down.

Emma didn’t know what to think. How did Carter and Hyden even know each other? But that was for another time.

Carter cleared his throat. "Emma Rich, I’m here on a mission—a recruiting mission—and you’re my subject, young lady. I understand that the Metropolitan saw fit to release you from its employment during a difficult time in your life."

"Yes, sir, they didn’t agree with me getting pregnant, and when Allison decided to make her premature entry into the world they were equally upset," Emma said quietly. "They let me go the day after she was delivered. I had missed too much work. I can’t blame them."

"You may not, but I damn sure can. They are nothing but a bunch of pompous windbag bastards at the Metropolitan. They wouldn’t know real talent if they sent it out the door packing—which they did."

"I have a friend, and he is in the process of building a state-of-the-art library with interactive features, a Learning Center, and a total interactive holographic museum of natural history containing the entire reference material available on humans and Genmen alike. He has a whole warehouse full of archives and artifacts thanks to his grandson Ty, who wrote an algorithm and program. He broke the encryption codes on the communications and data logs for the entire trip that the Genmen ship was in orbit on its way before it crashed here. And you, young lady, are the person that we want to be the curator and chief operating officer of this establishment."

Carter leaned forward with enthusiasm. "It will be available to everyone planetwide. It will be a destination place for learning about our past and where we go from now to the future. He has sections of the ship, he has actual footage from inside the ship—from the throne room to the slave quarters of the Genman males that were on board. And yes, I said slave quarters because that’s exactly what the men were—slaves."

"First thing is your daughter’s getting better. I heard that there was an excellent treatment plan here for her and she has been thriving from it. I talked to the doctor in charge and he gave me the lowdown on everything that’s been going on here thanks to you and these two knuckleheads back here behind me. And I think it’s a wonderful miracle, and your daughter was the first one to experience it as a human. I already know your stats—you’re unemployed, you’re broke, you have no future here within the city. Your job comes with benefits, your job comes with housing and a future for your family. Think about it and let me know. Here’s my card." Carter stood up. "But right now, I want to go check out these two wonderful babies here in the neonatal intensive care unit."

Emma didn’t have to think. "Mr. Carter, I accept your job offer. Wherever we have to leave, whatever—as soon as Allison is out of trouble here and on her own, I’ll be wherever you need me. Leo might have to be a house husband for a while, but I’m sure we can find him something to do."

Carter looked at Emma and turned his attention to Leo. "This is a package deal, Mr. Rich."

"Your job will be waiting on you as soon as you get there. We need all the help we can get. We’ve got to design the outside element to make it attractive for the masses—user-friendly and environmentally friendly. And who wouldn’t hire the power couple of Leo and Emma Rich? They would have to be very stupid to pass up this opportunity. And the two gentlemen that you’ll be working for are far from stupid."

Carter shook their hands and thanked them both. "I’m sure the other two will be here in a little while to talk to you both about everything. The house will be ready in a couple of days for your occupancy. I just hope we can live up to your standards out at the ranch." He turned and walked toward Daniel and Hyden.

Daniel stood up and hugged Carter’s neck, as did Hyden. "How’s uncle Tim doing? Is he progressing okay?"

"Well, his eight pack is almost gone, replaced with a two pack of babies, but other than that he’s progressing wonderfully. He still doesn’t like to keep his shirt on or shoes, but hey, when you’re that good-looking, who can blame you?"

"Yeah, Tim always was the showoff, always liked to show off his eight pack and his pecs and everything else he had to offer. And looks like he showed off a little too much to Mr. Ed because he took him up on his offer and nailed him twice." They all laughed. Carter said goodbye and went to the swinging doors to go see the babies.

Emma walked up to the boys. "Okay, out with it. What did you two do?"

"Well, we might have spoken to grandfather and granddad about some things that weren’t quite right, and how a couple of our friends needed a hand up in life. I hope that was okay," Daniel smiled.

Leo was all smiles. Emma questioned Daniel. "And just how do you know Carter Hawthorne?"

"Oh well, that’s easy. Carter’s husband Ed knocked up my uncle Tim with twins. And he lives with them now. Always claimed that he was going to be a top only, but he bottomed for that one, he did. Ed must be some prime human to nail uncle Tim because he was prime Top Genman all the way."

Emma thought about it. "You always see two gay men wanting to have a child eventually, and what better way to have a child of your own than with a Genman. Maybe the next time it might be Carter’s child."

"I don’t think so, Emma. Carter’s a bottom only—he doesn’t top other Genman or humans," Hyden chuckled.

Emma had a shocked look on her face. "You mean Carter Hawthorne isn’t human? He’s a Genman?"

Both boys looked at each other and said yes at the same time. That even blew Leo’s mind away. He would’ve never thought someone so poised and refined as Carter Hawthorne to be a Genman.

Both Leo and Emma had a seat at the latest revelation that had been told to them.
