Chapter 90: An Unlikely Proposal

It seemed that if it came down to a test of patience, Sylas would lose... He sighed, resigned to the situation.

Reluctantly, he wrapped Rocco in the blanket, confirming that he was securely in his arms before getting off the bed.

Moving cautiously so as not to wake Rocco, he sat down on the sofa.

Across from him, Laxus’s red eyes gleamed with amusement.

"Ah, I knew it. He’s so cute. I wanted to play with him more as a pet. This kid is so easy to manipulate and utterly useless. Watching him is so much fun," Laxus said, leaning forward and reaching for Rocco.

Sylas immediately twisted his body to shield Rocco from view.

Laxus blinked his eyes in surprise.

"Rocco has nothing to do with this. Don’t look at him unnecessarily. It’s distracting. Finish what you have to say," Sylas snapped.

"...You really don’t look like your little brother at all. There’s nothing cute about you," Laxus remarked, his voice dripping with a petulant tone.

Sylas snorted at his words.

Of course, it was true.

The concept of "cute" could almost be said to have been created solely for Rocco.

There was nothing cute about anyone else.

What foolishness was this man spouting?

"Stop talking nonsense and get to the point," Sylas urged.

Laxus dramatically sighed, then nodded.

"Fine, fine. Ahh, I really wanted to look at my ’master’ a little longer, but I guess I’ll get to it."

He straightened up from his leaning position, settling back into the sofa, and smirked faintly.

Then, the "proposal" he had mentioned earlier came—something Sylas never expected.

"So, about that proposal I mentioned earlier... How about we become friends?" Laxus said with a suspicious grin.

The irritation born from his shady smile and words was more than enough to ignite the simmering killing intent within Sylas.

...

The next morning, Rocco woke up feeling refreshed and in high spirits.

However, his cheerful mood was immediately interrupted when he turned his head and locked eyes with Sylas, who was lying beside him.

He froze, completely stiff.

Oh, right, they had ended up sleeping together, hadn’t they?

He quickly trying to calm himself and clutched his Mr. Bunny in his arms tightly.

But wait—why he was wrapped like a cocoon?

Tilting his head in confusion, Rocco glanced up at Sylas.

Sylas, who had been sound asleep, had his arms tightly wrapped around Rocco.

His expression was unusually stern, with his brows furrowed deeply, as if he were having a bad dream.

Is he having a nightmare?

Rocco wondered nervously.

Tentatively, he reached out a hand from beneath the blanket and gently ran it through Sylas’s silky hair.

At that, Sylas’s eyes snapped open, focusing on Rocco.

His stern expression softened ever so slightly as he murmured, "...Good morning."

His deep and low voice, delivered at such close range, sent a shiver down Rocco’s spine.

"G-Good morning...!" Rocco stammered, completely flustered.

He hadn’t expected Sylas to actually greet him in the morning.

The unexpected gesture left him utterly bewildered.

Sylas’s usual sharp and intimidating demeanor seemed absent and it was replaced by an oddly calm expression.

Was he still half-asleep?

As Rocco squirmed awkwardly, something soft and fluffy suddenly wiggled its way between him and Sylas.

What in the world...?

When he looked down, he was startled—and then gasped in disbelief.

"L-Laxus!?"

With a sweet, high-pitched whimper, an adorable white dog wagged its tail enthusiastically.

There was no doubt about it—this was Laxus, his beloved dog that Rocco had feared was lost forever.

Am I the one who’s still dreaming?

Rocco rubbed his eyes furiously before looking again.

However, no matter how many times he blinked, Laxus remained right there in his view, wagging his tail with boundless joy.

It wasn’t a dream... it wasn’t a dream!

The moment Rocco realized this, he impulsively tossed his Mr. Bunny in Sylas’s direction and pulled Laxus into a tight embrace.

"I was so worried about you, Laxus!" Rocco exclaimed.

The fluffy dog let out a faint, strained whimper from within Rocco’s arms.

Hearing its whimper, he immediately loosened his grip and give it an awkward smile.

Laxus gave him a relieved huff before breaking into a bright, cheerful smile.

He looked healthy, which brought Rocco immense relief.

"Brother! Brother! Look! My cute dog has come back—"

Rocco beamed with joy as he turned around to share his excitement, but his words caught in his throat.

Oh no.

He suddenly remembered that Sylas absolutely despised Laxus for some inexplicable reason.

Like a vivid slideshow, the memory of Sylas aiming a gun at Laxus and firing a warning shot replayed in his mind.

The sight of Laxus lying limp and helpless after the incident was still painfully clear.

How could I forget something so important?

What was I thinking?!

Rocco scolded himself inwardly.

"Um, uh... I mean..."

"What about that dog?" Sylas’s voice was calm, but it carried a dark, menacing edge.

A palpable aura of anger radiated from him as his sharp gaze bore into Laxus.

Seeing this, Rocco’s previously triumphant expression drained of color.

With a panic expression, he quickly sat up, grabbed his Mr. Bunny back from the bed, and scooted backward, clutching both Laxus and Mr. Bunny tightly to his chest.

His tears began to welled up in his wide eyes as he looked pleadingly at Sylas.

Looking at Rocco expression, Sylas’s face twisted in frustration as if he was hesitating over his next move.

"P-please, Brother! Don’t hurt Laxus! I’ll do anything!" Rocco cried, his words tumbling out in a tearful, barely coherent voice.

He sobbed uncontrollably, even though deep down he didn’t believe his brother would grant his desperate request.

However, to Rocco’s surprise, Sylas’s eyes widened slightly at the words "I’ll do anything."

Sylas’s expression shifted to one of panic and anger as he grabbed Rocco’s shoulders with a grip so firm it was almost painful.

However, the tension in the room made it clear that now was not the time to complain.
