Chapter 66: Naming the Pup

Well, at least the favor was granted.

Rocco trailed after Georgio, thinking how unexpected it was for Georgio to be like a child afraid of sleeping alone.

Then again, he’d always found Georgio to be a bit childish.

Lost in thought, Rocco followed Georgio as they headed out of the main building.

But just as they were about to leave, a soft whimper, "Wuff..." made Rocco pause and turn around in alarm.

"Oh no, I’m so sorry, little pup! I didn’t mean to leave you behind!"

"Wuff!"

At his feet, the fluffy white dog—who looked more like a ball of cotton candy—fidgeted indignantly.

It seemed upset that Rocco had momentarily forgotten its presence.

The dog stomped its tiny paws in frustration, clearly expressing its displeasure.

"Please, forgive me!" Rocco pleaded as he nibbled the pup’s soft ears.

It wasn’t long before the dog’s tail drooped, and it forgave him, letting out a soft sigh.

"Thank you," Rocco said, cuddling the pup as they left the building.

He followed Georgio, who was carrying Ragar to the annex, and spoke aloud, almost to himself.

"Now that I think about it, I’ve been calling you ’little pup’ this whole time. But that won’t do forever. You need a proper name."

"Wuff?"

As he walked, Rocco glanced down at the dog in his arms.

He studied its fluffy white body, pondering names that might suit it.

The food-inspired names from his old world came to mind.

"Let’s see... Cotton Candy, Mochi, Marshmallow... Dumpling, Biscuit, Ginger..."

"Wuff! Wuff...!?"

None of the names seemed to fit.

Rocco sighed.

The dog didn’t seem thrilled with any of the suggestions either.

In truth, none of these names felt right because, deep down, Rocco saw a reflection of the Male Lead in this little creature.

Nothing else seemed appropriate.

"...Laxus."

The name slipped from his lips almost unconsciously as he stared at the dog.

It was the name that had been lingering in his mind whenever he looked at the little pup.

The moment he said it, the dog’s body stiffened slightly.

"Huh? Did that name strike a chord with you too?" Rocco murmured, his eyes widening as he watched the little pup.

Its crimson eyes stared back at him, eerily reminiscent of his.

The dog’s expression was hard to read, but it seemed intrigued, tilting its head as though pondering the name.

"Do you know Laxus, little pup?" Rocco asked gently.

This time, the soft "Wuff" that had been filling the air didn’t come.

Rocco noticed the sudden silence from the pup and thought it might be confused by the name "Laxus."

Deciding to elaborate further, he continued with an explanation.

"Laxus is... a boy with the most beautiful eyes. His red eyes is like the color of heroes," Rocco said warmly.

The little pup’s eyes widened in surprise.

Huh?

That reaction... Could it actually know Laxus?

Rocco was curious but chose not to ask, noticing the little pup seemed deeply interested in what he was saying.

"Like I’ve said, red is the color of heroes! It’s also the color of delicious apples and sparkling rubies! That’s the kind of amazing eyes Laxus has."

"—..."

"I... I really, really love Laxus," Rocco admitted softly.

The little pup’s ears twitched at his words.

Rocco gently stroked its ears, which had perked up without him noticing, while recalling a novel he’d read in his past life.

—Laxus and Sylas is his ultimate "ship."

The strong, heroic Laxus and the tender-hearted Sylas.

Rocco had studied illustrations of the pair more times than he could count—more than he’d seen his parents’ faces, he often joked.

Naturally, Laxus’s image was etched in his mind.

Together, Laxus and Sylas were his favorite couple, and Laxus as a character held a special place in his heart.

"Laxus, thank you for giving me the best couple, the best scenes, and the best story! I love you so much—Laxus is the most amazing hero!"

"Laxus is truly incredible. I love him... more than anything," Rocco murmured, his voice filled with sincerity.

"—..."

"You know... you remind me of Laxus. That’s why, if it’s okay, I’d like to call you Laxus. What do you think?" he asked, only for the little pup to suddenly tremble and leap up into his face.

"What the—? Hey, little pup!"

The next thing Rocco knew, the little pup was enthusiastically licking his cheeks, forehead, and even his lips.

It seemed to have become a sudden kiss enthusiast.

"Whoa—what’s gotten into you, little pup?!"

Rocco gently peeled the little pup off his face and held it up to examine it.

Its crimson eyes shimmered with tears, but its expression was soft and happy as it snuggled against him.

Moments ago, the little pup had been cautious and guarded, but now it was completely unreserved.

Rocco muttered to himself, a little flustered but undeniably pleased.

"Well... I guess it’s nice to be trusted, but still..."

"Wuff! Wuff!"

"Hmm? What’s that? Are you saying it’s okay to call you Laxus?"

"Wuff!"

"What?! Really?!" Rocco exclaimed, delighted.

The little pup had accepted the name Laxus.

Rocco had already grown attached to the little pup since the moment it was handed to him by that man in the glasses.

Now, with a name, his affection deepened even further.

ugging the now-named Laxus tightly, Rocco whispered softly.

"Nice to meet you, Laxus. You’re my... precious family."

Laxus wagged its tail excitedly as Rocco smiled warmly at it, unable to hide his affection.

With a cheerful "Wuff!" Laxus narrowed its crimson eyes in joy, radiating happiness.

That night was nothing short of chaotic.

Rocco had been worried about Ragar, whose health had become unstable after his sudden transformation.

Hoping to comfort him, Rocco decided to share the bed with him.

However, just as they had settled in, Georgio started causing a commotion.

He shouted things like, "You liar!" and "You’re cheating on me, Master!" in a fit of jealousy.

Rocco had no intention of breaking his promise to Georgio.

After all, it was something they had agreed upon.
