Chapter 40: Seething

The morning sun streamed through the tall windows, casting golden light across the training grounds. The distant sounds of the heirs sparring and orders being barked filled the air, but inside the private wing of the manor, a storm was brewing.

A very angry storm named Riven.

He was sitting up in bed, arms crossed, his expression dark. His tail flicked irritably beneath the blankets, ears flattened against his head. He should have been out there, doing something useful. Instead, Ronan had abandoned him.

Abandoned.

Again!

His sharp teeth clenched as he seethed. His claws twitched against his arms. His alpha had left him. Did not even inform him. Dumped him onto some other guy and disappeared to play with the heirs.

What was that supposed to mean?!

Riven wanted to break something.

Across the room, a certain bunny was watching with a mixture of confusion and concern.

Elliot had been tending to Riven all morning, making sure his herbs were working and checking on his condition. But something was... Off.

"Your fever should be gone by now," Elliot muttered, tilting his head as he studied Riven’s face. "But you still look really pale..."

Riven immediately adjusted his expression, slumping a little more and letting out a weak, pitiful sigh. He rested a hand on his forehead dramatically.

"Ah... You’re right... I still feel so weak..."

Elliot gasped, his pink eyes full of worry. "Oh no! That’s not normal—"

Riven inwardly smirked. Perfect.

If Ronan wasn’t going to be here, then fine. But he wasn’t going to let everyone leave him. Elliot was nice, soft-hearted, and easily swayed. If he could get the bunny to sympathise with him, then Elliot would naturally start feeling attached to him.

And then, in time, Riven would conquer him.

This little bunny MC was his favourite character in the story, how could he not try to earn his affection?

...Okay, maybe a little revenge on Ronan too.

Elliot was still frowning. "But I don’t understand... My herbs are working. Your bruises should be healing faster, and your fever should be gone." He leaned in closer, his small hands hovering over Riven’s arm. "Are you sure you still feel sick? Where does it hurt?"

Oh, Riven could tell him. He could list all the places that ached. He was still in pain, after all. But no—he had a better idea.

Something that would permanently glue Elliot to his side.

He lowered his voice, letting it go husky, mysterious. "Eli..."

Elliot blinked at him. "Yes?"

Riven gave him a serious look. "I need you to promise me something."

The bunny’s ears twitched slightly. "What is it?"

Riven sat up, wincing dramatically, he barely had to act—his back did hurt, but he played it up. "You have to promise you won’t tell anyone. This is a secret. Just between you and me."

Elliot nodded immediately, his curiosity piqued. "O-Okay! I promise!" He trusted this Riven for some reason. He never put on airs like the other wolves. Never acted arrogant.

Riven exhaled, lowering his gaze. He let the silence stretch, made it heavy. And then, finally—he dropped the bomb.

"I have periods."

Elliot blinked.

Then blinked again.

"......What?"

Riven met his wide, stunned eyes and repeated, dead serious: "I have periods, Eli."

The healer’s mouth opened. Then closed. Then opened again. He looked like he had just been hit over the head with a log. "You—? But you’re—?! Huh?!"

Riven smirked slightly. "Shocking, isn’t it?"

Elliot’s brain short-circuited.

His ears twitched wildly as he struggled to process. This was new. This was completely unheard of. This was—

"I—hold on—I—" Elliot’s hands trembled slightly as he grabbed his own face. "I need a moment—"

"Take your time," Riven said, leaning back smugly.

Elliot definitely wasn’t ready for this.

But his healer instincts kicked in. If Riven was serious, then this was a huge medical discovery! It wasn’t like omegas couldn’t have strange biological quirks, but male omegas? Having actual cycles?!

He needed proof.

"...Can I sniff you?"

Riven raised an eyebrow. "That’s a bold request, Bunny."

Elliot went crimson. "I—I mean—not in a weird way! It’s just—if you really—if it’s true—there should be a scent—"

Riven sighed, tilting his head slightly. "Fine. Go ahead."

Elliot leaned in hesitantly, cheeks still burning, and took a careful sniff.

His nose twitched.

His ears flicked.

His body froze.

Oh my gods.

He jerked back violently, nearly knocking over a chair. "IT’S TRUE?!" His bunny ears immediately sprung out!

Riven grinned, teeth flashing. "Told you." He had to fight back the urge to reach for those ears!

Elliot clutched his head. His entire world had just shifted.

This wasn’t just huge—this was revolutionary! He had never heard of a male omega having periods before! This wasn’t just rare, this was impossible! And yet—

Yet, here was Riven. Smirking at him like he had just flipped the entire world upside down and was waiting to see the fallout.

Elliot’s heart was racing. "D-Does Ronan know?!"

Riven’s expression darkened immediately. "We’re not talking about him."

Elliot flinched at the venom in Riven’s tone.

Right. Ronan. The alpha who had somehow offended Riven.

Elliot may have been naive in a lot of things, but he wasn’t blind. He had seen the way Riven had been glaring at nothing all morning, his tail thrashing like an angry cat.

"Are you... Mad at him?" Elliot asked cautiously.

Riven huffed.

"Mad?" he echoed. "Mad? No, Eli. I am furious. I am seething. I am one bad comment away from marching down to that damn training field and tearing into him."

Elliot swallowed nervously. "Oh."

"That bastard," Riven growled, his claws digging into the sheets. "He leaves me alone, avoids me, abandons me—he doesn’t even say why! And then—then! He puts Troy in charge of me, like I’m some lost pup who needs babysitting!"

Elliot winced. "Well, you were recovering—"

"I’M FINE."

Eli decided to just shut up and support this poor wolf who was abandoned, he knew the dark side of this world, he was a healer in many noble houses. They would take in male mistresses and ill-treat them...
