Chapter 99: Trouble
Chapter 99: Trouble
Before Feng stepped into the springs, he stood at the washing station, scooping warm water from a wooden basin to cleanse his body.
Steam curled around him as he poured the water over his shoulders, rinsing away the sweat and grime from his journey.
He worked meticulously, scrubbing the dried blood from his arms and legs before running his fingers through his tangled black hair, feeling the knots loosen under the steady stream.
As his hands brushed over his ribs, a sharp jolt of pain shot through him—a lingering reminder of Yi Bei’s last attack.
His grip tightened, and a cold anger flared in his eyes, the memory of their clash igniting a fierce determination deep within him.
I definitely could have beaten him if I had played my cards better, Feng thought, as ferocity boiled within him.
There were many things he believed he could have improved during that fight.
The most important issue was his unfamiliarity with his cultivation base due to the rapid + breakthroughs he had experienced over the past couple of weeks.
This caused him to either use too much spiritual energy in his attacks or too little, affecting their strength.
Another problem was his inability to fully utilize the spiritual arts given to him by the Blackwood Ruler—either because his cultivation base was too weak to unleash their full potential or simply because he lacked creativity when using them.
This can probably be fixed once I get to Brightshore Academy. They must have some sort of library filled with spiritual arts compatible with my Heaven’s Pact,
Feng thought as he finished washing and quickly approached the hot springs. He stepped onto the stone stairs, sinking his entire body into the warm water, and immediately felt a wave of relief.
"Ahhh, this feels amazing!" Feng thought. It was the first time he had ever experienced something like this—there were no natural hot springs back in the Blackwood Forest, despite the abundance of rivers and waterfalls in the area.
He soon noticed that his spiritual energy was recovering faster than usual. When he looked closely at the water, he saw tiny specks of white light flickering through it.
What is that supposed to be? Feng wondered. Just as the thought crossed his mind, a mechanical voice echoed inside his head.
[Responding to host: That is a sign that the concentration of spiritual energy in this area is higher than normal. This place is most likely a spirit spring.]
Feng was shocked upon hearing the system’s response. Even though he came from a backwater place like Raincloud Village, he had still heard of spirit springs.
"Aren’t spirit springs supposed to be super rare? They naturally increase the spiritual energy in the area, meaning if you cultivate here, your cultivation speed is twice as fast as in other places!" Feng thought excitedly, immediately beginning his breathing exercises, unwilling to waste this opportunity.
Meanwhile, as Feng enjoyed himself inside the hot springs, trouble was brewing outside the Chen Clan.

A couple of hours after Yan Hao and Yan Li parted ways with Lin Feng, they found themselves indulging in a secluded pleasure house called the Silk House.
The building was dimly lit, with red silk drapes hanging from the walls and pink lanterns casting a warm, seductive glow over the room.
The air was thick with the sweet scent of perfume and spiced wine, mingling with the faint aroma of incense that curled lazily toward the ceiling.
Women in revealing silk dresses glided gracefully between tables, their laughter soft and inviting as they poured wine and served delicacies to the patrons.
At the heart of the lavish room, Yan Hao and Yan Li lounged comfortably on plush cushions, each with a woman draped over their shoulders.
Yan Hao leaned back, his arm wrapped around a curvaceous beauty who giggled as he fondled her with no shame.
Across from him, Yan Li chuckled as he pulled a girl into his lap, her delicate fingers tracing circles on his chest while he whispered teasing words into her ear.
"Hehehe, you guys don’t have to worry. Your daddy, Yan Hao, just got a big haul—drink and eat as much as you like!" Yan Hao laughed loudly, shoving his hands into one of the girls’ breasts, fondling them as she squealed shyly.
"That’s right! Your daddy, Yan Li, will take care of your every need. Isn’t that right, miss? Hehe," Yan Li chuckled, kissing the woman on his right as she smiled seductively.
Unbeknownst to them, three people at a nearby table were watching them closely, their eyes gleaming with malevolence.
They were so focused on Yan Hao and Yan Li that they even pushed away the girls seated beside them.
"Hey boss, it’s those two idiots, Yan Hao and Yan Li. Looks like they got a lot of money this time," one of them said, licking his lips as he stared at them, his intentions clearly far from good.
"That’s right, boss. Maybe they got some sort of reward? I heard they were there when Chen Yang tried to take out Chen Li—maybe that’s where the money came from," another chimed in.
"Both of you, shut up. I need to think," their leader snapped. This man was Wei Zihan, someone who worked for the Wei Clan. In Silverpine City, it was easy to tell which faction someone belonged to based on their clothing—those in purple were from the Chen Clan, while those in brown, like Zhao Zihan and his men, belonged to the Wei Clan.
Hmm... Young Master Wei Jun already ordered me to scout out the person Miss Chen Mei arrived with. According to the intel I received, Miss Chen Mei is currently speaking with the Head of the Chen Clan about the latest events in Silverpine City. I doubt she’ll be the one to interfere if I make a move here.
Huang Bei, from what I’ve heard, is still injured and recovering. And while the other one Young Master wanted investigated is also resting, my scouts reported he looks much better than Huang Bei.
So, if I beat up these two idiots... will he show up to save them?
Wei Zihan’s eyes gleamed with malice as he glanced at his subordinates and gave a subtle nod.
One of them grinned wickedly, rising from his seat and making his way toward Yan Hao and Yan Li.
