Chapter 74: Strengths and Weaknesses
Feng stared at the scene before him, focusing on Chen Mei.
She was clearly stronger than Chen Yan, and the Nethersoul Emperor Poison surrounding her pulsed with powerful spiritual energy.
Just looking at it made something inside him sting, as if it were burning.
Huang Bei kept speaking, explaining what made this Heaven’s Pact unique.
"As you probably know, the Nethersoul Poison directly affects the soul, bypassing the body. If even a tiny bit touches your soul, it spreads through your consciousness.
First, you feel dizzy in the middle of combat. Then, pain seeps in, making you feel like you’re about to pass out.
Finally, when it reaches its full potential, it burns you alive until you die from the poison."
Lin Feng clenched his fist at the explanation.
He knew the Nethersoul Poison was strong, but not this strong. Didn’t that mean the Chen Clan was invincible?
Huang Bei, noticing Lin Feng’s reaction, spoke again. "
Even though it seems like the Chen Clan is unbeatable, there are ways to counter their Heaven’s Pact—mainly through the strength of your cultivation base.
Simply put, if you can defeat a member of the Chen Clan before their Nethersoul Poison fully activates, they won’t be able to do anything to you.
Though, when you think about it, that does sound a bit obvious."
Lin Feng, hearing Huang Bei’s explanation, felt no reassurance.
He quickly responded, "Doesn’t that just mean you can only beat them if your cultivation base is higher? If you’re at the same level, aren’t they impossible to beat?"
Huang Bei was about to reply when, unexpectedly, the person standing right in front of them spoke instead.
The Nethersoul Poison is a powerful Elemental-Type Heaven’s Pact, but like all Elemental-Type Heaven’s Pacts, it has its weaknesses.
This is simply because the three major types of Heaven’s Pacts each have their own strengths," Chen Mei said, her voice ringing like a melody as she faced off against Chen Yang, once again starting to ignore him.
"First, as we all know, an Elemental-Type Heaven’s Pact is the strongest in terms of pure offensive power.
This is mainly because this type of Heaven’s Pact can imitate natural disasters or powerful forces of nature, causing large-scale area-of-effect damage.
Essentially, they are weapons of mass destruction," Chen Mei explained.
She glanced behind her, staring at Huang Bei for a few seconds before shifting her gaze toward Feng in particular.
"However, as a consequence, people with Elemental-Type Heaven’s Pacts are generally physically weaker than those with Beast-Type Heaven’s Pacts.
If a Beast-Type cultivator has a strong enough physique, no matter how powerful the natural disaster is, he can simply push through it and destroy everything—including the Elemental-Type cultivator." Chen Mei continued, her purple eyes glittering like gems.
"Finally, Tool-Type Heaven’s Pacts are somewhere in between the two. Some excel at large-scale attacks, like greatswords, while others enhance the body’s strength, like a shield or armor," Chen Mei continued.
"However, you need to remember these things are what is common, it doesn’t take into account all of the different possibilities of people with Heavens’ Pacts, just like that bastard Yi Bei you fought who didn’t seem like a physical fighter" Chen Mei continued trying to clear things up to him.
"If you’re wondering why I explained all this, just give me regards to Elena." Chen Mei smiled, a hint of intrigue and danger in her expression, before finally turning back to Chen Yang.
Lin Feng was stunned.
This was the first time he had heard such information, and he was still processing it. Still, he quickly bowed his head and said, "Thank you."
But another thought immediately crossed his mind.
She knows Elena? Did they know each other from before? Are they friends or are they enemies?
Feng’s guard rose tenfold as he considered the possibilities.
If she and Elena were friends, it would be fine—he might even use his connection with Elena as leverage to ask more about cultivation. But if they were enemies instead...
Feng tried to appear casual, planning to ask about her relationship with Elena.
Yet before he could, footsteps suddenly echoed behind them, and a figure appeared, walking through the cold air.
Everyone—Yan Hao, Yan Li, and the others—turned toward the source of the sound, finally seeing the person they had been trying to protect all along suddenly speak his mind.
"I know you kids are just trying to protect me, but I can’t sit back there knowing your all risking your lives," Chen Li said, his voice tired.
"Old Chen! Why are you here? You should stay in the carriage and hide. We never know what might happen in this fight—you could get hit by a stray poison attack and just disintegrate!" Yan Hao spoke quickly, his voice filled with worry.
"That’s right, Old Chen, just stay in the back. We can handle this." Yan Li patted his chest, trying to look as reliable as possible.
Huang Bei, watching the twins, shook his head before bowing slightly.
"Old Chen, I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you. I never thought Chen Baole would go so far as to ambush us when we were just minding our own business."
Chen Li listened to their words and sighed, a trace of exhaustion in his voice.
He slowly approached them, reaching into his bag and pulling out a beautifully carved box of green jade.
It pulsed with a faint spiritual energy pressure, but it didn’t seem like a weapon—more like a tool.
"Why are you apologizing? This whole mess is my fault. Even though I expected something like this, I didn’t think Chen Baole would be this bold—he even sent his own son to finish me off," Chen Li said as he finally opened the jade box.
A brilliant emerald light burst from within, different from the poisonous glow that once came from Yi Bei. This light felt rejuvenating, like a medicinal tonic.
"Come here, boy. Let me help you." Chen Li stepped toward Lin Feng.
"We don’t know each other well, yet you protected not only me but also Yan Hao, Yan Li, and Huang Bei. I value my people deeply, and for this, I owe you a favor."
He guided Lin Feng to sit cross-legged on the ground as the emerald light gradually faded from the box, revealing what lay inside.
