Heavenly Rebellion: The Human Race's Rise to Prominence -
Chapter 58: Chen Clan
Chapter 58: Chen Clan
When Feng saw Huang Bei transform into a minotaur-like beast—horns sprouting from his head and hooves replacing his feet—he was reminded of his own integration with his Heaven’s Pact before obtaining the Ruler’s Physique.
He doesn’t have an appropriate cultivation technique, Feng thought to himself as he observed Huang Bei from afar.
He didn’t want to alert the enemies.
If they realized there was another 6th-level Qi Condensation cultivator in the caravan, they would most likely be on guard, although they probably won’t care much considering most of them we’re in the 6th level of Qi Condensation.
It had been a while since he last asked the system a question, but now seemed like a good time.
"Hey, System, is it normal for people with Beast-Type Heaven’s Pacts to look half-human-half-beast?" he asked, still watching the scene unfold.
[Responding to host: Yes. It is very rare for Beast-Type Heaven’s Pacts to have appropriate cultivation techniques, as humans and spirit beasts are fundamentally different.]
Feng exhaled slightly. Guess having the Ruler as my teacher really made my life a lot easier, he thought, recalling how his will had been slowly worn down by his own Heaven’s Pact in the past.
A few moments later, he noticed Chen Li, Yan Hao, and Yan Li sprinting toward his carriage.
He quickly signaled them with his eyes, urging them not to reveal his presence.
Chen Li caught the look in Feng’s eyes and gave a slight nod.
Without hesitation, the three of them slipped inside the carriage and hid within the stacks of wheat being transported.
Meanwhile, Huang Bei had also taken notice of Chen Li’s attempt to stay hidden.
He subtly nodded at two nearby bandits, and their eyes gleamed with malice.
Without hesitation, they dashed toward the third carriage, spiritual energy surging from their bodies.
As they closed in, their Heaven’s Pacts activated—one wielded a dagger while the other controlled floating hoops with razor-sharp edges.
Even though their Heaven’s Pacts were different, the cultivation techniques they used were clearly similar.
A dark, black spiritual energy surged from their weapons as they activated their techniques.
Kuan Yu, the bandit wielding a dagger, reached the carriage first, his lips curling into a cruel sneer. He raised his weapon, ready to strike—
But before he could even utter a threat, a hand shot out from the carriage surging with darksilver spiritual energy like a viper striking its prey.
Thick fingers clamped around his throat, crushing his windpipe in an instant.
Kuan Yu’s eyes bulged as he choked on his own breath, his Heaven’s Pact disappearing.
A muffled gurgle escaped his lips as Feng’s grip tightened.
His legs thrashed, his body convulsing in sheer panic.
Then—
CRACK.
With a single twist, Feng snapped his neck.
Kuan Yu’s struggles ceased in an instant, his body going limp like a severed puppeqt.
Feng released his grip, letting the lifeless corpse slump to the ground with a dull thud.
Yu Zhen, the bandit with the hoop-like Heaven’s Pact, froze as his eyes widened in terror.
Staggering backward, he shouted, "Damn it, Yi Bei! There’s one more person here!"
As Yu Zhen retreated, the remaining bandits quickly regrouped, their eyes locking onto the carriage with pure killing intent.
Then, Feng stepped out.
His gaze was cold, his presence suffocating as a powerful spiritual energy pressure radiated from his body.
The bandits tensed, their initial confidence wavering.
Even though they saw that he was only at the 6th level of Qi Condensation, none of them dared to lower their guard.
If he could take down a 6th-level Qi Condensation cultivator so effortlessly—even in an ambush—it meant his true combat strength was at least at the 7th, perhaps even the 8th level.
Feng, on the other hand, didn’t dwell on such complicated thoughts.
I only killed that guy so easily because I ambushed him. Taking care of the rest won’t be as simple unless I integrate.
He recalled his battle against the Black Blood Komodo Dragons.
If he integrated, his combat strength would be enough to hold off a 9th-level Qi Condensation cultivator.
Yet, as he observed the oppressive spiritual energy radiating from these bandits, he had a feeling that integration would only allow him to fight on equal footing against an 8th-level opponent.
The 9th level was still beyond his reach.
Are humans stronger than spirit beasts at the same level? Or were those things just weaker than I thought?
Darksilver spiritual energy surged from his body, and the suppressive force of his Alpha Wolf’s Domain spread outward.
The first to feel its effects was Yu Zhen.
His body tensed as an instinctive fear gripped him—it was as if he wasn’t facing a human but a powerful spiritual beast.
"You! This is an internal affair of the Chen Clan! If you dare interfere, Elder Chen Baole won’t let you off!" Yu Zhen shouted, trying to mask his fear.
Before Feng could respond, a weary voice spoke up from behind him.
"Chen Baole is the blood brother of the current head of the Chen Clan—the most powerful family in Silverpine City. Boy, if you wish to retreat, no one here would blame you."
Chen Li’s voice carried exhaustion, as if he had long grown tired of the constant struggles that life threw at him.
Before Feng could reply, another desperate voice called out from afar.
"Lin Feng! If you hold those bastards off, we’ll pay you a fortune as compensation! Just protect the old man!"
It was Huang Bei.
Chen Li trembled at his words, closing his eyes as if resigning himself to his fate.
Yan Hao and Yan Li stirred as well, ready to climb out of the carriage to buy time for Huang Bei’s rescue attempt.
But before they could act, Feng finally spoke.
His voice was calm, yet his eyes gleamed with murderous intent.
"You don’t have to worry, Huang Bei. Even if you hadn’t asked, I would’ve protected Old Chen."
His gaze swept across the bandits.
"Like I said—I’m not the kind of person who bites the hand that feeds me."
